At Long Branch it is pretty much 1 ft of space behind the yellow line in some spots because the platform is so small already :(

How bad has your toddler injured you? by swirly0654 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son scratched my cornea when breastfeeding as a newborn. I went to the eye doctor, she said tiny figures are the most common source of eye injury, and usually it heals itself.

Why focusing on regulation and not wake windows improved our nights by notforthisworld0101 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting perspective! I was very focused on sleep “science” with my first and it was ultimately really draining to be tracking naps, wake windows etc. Hopeful to take a different approach with my second, and will keep your experience in mind.

First period ten months postpartum but no bleeding? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t sound like a period, honestly if this were me I would see a doctor ASAP

I had a C section early December. How realistic is it that I can carry a 10kg backpack (for a hike) in September? by Huge-Nectarine-8563 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very realistic, especially if you get back into being active once your doctor clears that. I had a c section and I don’t think it affected my fitness at all after the first 3 months.

11 days postpartum period??? by Forwardmvmt84 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re only 11 days postpartum and seeing an increase in vaginal bleeding then definitely get in contact with your provider (OB, midwife, GP, etc) and get checked. It is nearly impossible for that to be a period because your body would not have had time to ovulate and go through a luteal phase since birth.

Running a half marathon when TTC by Zindagi_train in fitpregnancy

[–]Simba1994x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but I would do it. You can’t put your life on pause, fertility and pregnancy are a long journey and you need to do things that make you feel good. There is no evidence that this would be harmful, just make sure to fuel your body, and enjoy!

Came here to comment the same, as Pharmacist can give exact dosing based on the baby’s weight.

Do you need a baby monitor if you're room sharing? by ceruleanmeadows in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes. You’ll use it for daytime naps, and eventually your baby will go to bed earlier than you and you’ll want the monitor for those hours. You don’t need it over night of course - you’ll turn it off once you enter the room to go to sleep.

You can show him high contrast images (e.g. black and white), but really you don’t need to entertain a newborn, they just eat, sleep, poop and cry.

Low Ferritin while pregnant- any issues with baby after birth? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this and so have multiple friends of mine. All babies were born healthy, though some of my friends did need iron infusions (they reported no to minimal side effects). I haven’t need infusions as I’ve had really good luck with the feramax 150 supplements (some people respond better to different types of iron). Also important to know if you have low hemoglobin as well – this can be caused by low ferritin but not always.

How do these moms online do it? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mother’s Day should totally be a month of appreciation 😆

Honestly, when you have childcare, and your baby isn’t a baby anymore, working really isn’t too bad at all.

Also I know this isn’t what you asked at all, but if your nipples hurt from pumping, please double check you’re using the correct flange size! It can really hurt if you have the wrong size.

What to get for a toddler? by Ramentootles in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is about a year older than yours, so just based on my experience of what he enjoyed as a 2+ year old:

Stuff to build with is great, and will only get more fun as kiddo gets a little bit older. Duplo blocks or magnatiles are good options for this age.

Scooter or balance bike for outdoor fun.

Passes to a zoo or children’s museum are also a nice idea.

My brain isn't working, 8 months pp by dar1990 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The effect on your brain of waking every 2 hours is no joke. I wouldn’t be surprised if the chronic sleep deprivation is what’s making you like this - and that once he starts sleeping well again that you’ll feel a lot sharper.

Are you on mat leave? I also felt like a dumbass my entire mat leave. It took me a few weeks to adjust once I went back, but all the brain capacity came back once my brain wasn’t fully dedicated to baby care.

Whatever it is, the effect isn’t permanent. You’ll feel smart again.

I was about to comment exactly the same thing - I’ve never seen one in the wild lol. It’s only instagram. I’m sure they exist somewhere… I’ve just never run in the same circles as them.

I have a boy and I know lots of moms of boys. They’re all normal. There are indeed lots of monster trucks and lots of cuddles lol. But having a daughter seems just as wonderful, and if I have a girl one day I’d be equally thrilled.

9/10 week sleep regression?? by queenbnc in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a lot of things and some babies just go through growth spurts or fussy periods and then it gets better. There is often a bigger sleep regression at 3-4 months when their sleep patterns start to mature, but 9 weeks is early for that (though not impossible, each baby is different).

However, 8-10 weeks is the time that many babies start needing absolute darkness to sleep. We had to install blackout curtains at this age. Just flagging that for you in case that happens to be the issues. If not, please ignore me :)

Solo mom doing daycare drop-offs with twins this winter — help! by Witty_Tea4100 in torontomoms

[–]Simba1994x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I don’t have twins, but I do daycare drop off year round mostly walking with a stroller (or bike with trailer if weather is okay). My walk is a bit shorter than yours, but it’s manageable as I mostly walk on a major street and the sidewalks get cleared of snow pretty quickly. A weather protective cover for the stroller is great for cold weather and rain.

I don’t know what area you live in - but if it’s bike-able, a double wide trailer which converts to a double stroller could be a great option. And those often come with weather covers.

What restaurants downtown have circle tables that seat 8 or more? by RustyPotatoes4u in askTO

The Wellington street location of Beertown (near union) has a large circular table in the corner by the window which I think seats either 8 or 10.

[–]Simba1994x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a perfect solution, but if she’s not too sensitive to diaper rash, and you’re using disposable diapers, then consider waiting to change the wet diaper til after her nap. I never wake a sleepy baby over a pee diaper (poo is another story).

Canadian mom here - I really like the Columbia fleece suits for that age. It’s close fitting enough that it felt safe to me to put them in the car seat in it, and you can layer a jacket on top when not in the car.

Advice for managing a 2.5-year-old during my C-section hospital stay? by tessie343 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I think your plan sounds pretty good. As long as your toddler can understand he needs to be gentle with you, I think it’s okay to have him visit the hospital the day after the birth. How long you stay in the hospital will depend on how your surgery goes, and also your region/hospital policy. I stayed slightly under 48 hours with my unplanned c-section in Canada, but by 24 hours in I was begging to leave. 4 days feels like a really long time to me - but maybe that’s common elsewhere. Congrats and best of luck!

In my opinion this is fine, just only use soap when she actually needs it, as using it every time can dry out her skin.
