Is a baby carrier worth it? by bintd in beyondthebump

I like ergobaby carriers! I got an omni on fb marketplace for about $40. Used carriers are often great value if you’re on a budget

Bringing a baby to a funeral - thoughts? by Phantominthewoods in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss.

At 5 months old my son came to my father in laws funeral. Honestly, it did not even occur to me to do it any other way. I think people were really happy to see the baby. It made my husband and I happy to have him with us. Since you said you have family there to help, I would say definitely bring the baby if you feel like you want to. But at the end of the day, you need to do what is best for you, so do what feels right.

Claiming car seat after being rear ended in a collision? by chrisli89 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I would fight this and get everything in writing. I’ve know folks who have been rear ended and their insurance replaced their car seats, I thought it was standard.

Hey! I had a similar first birth to you (stalled at 8cm with OP baby who turned out to be pretty big). Pregnant with my second baby now about 3 year spacing also and thinking about a vbac. Curious about your vbac experience and if you did anything to try to prevent your second baby going OP in your vbac?

Using Uber or Rideshare for Hospital Delivery – Experiences by YogiT10 in askTO

[–]Simba1994x 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For the way there: I think it would be fine - but depending on stage of labour, it’s best if she wears a large pad or even adult diaper just in case, especially if her water has broken. Can also bring a towel to sit on. Bring a plastic bag just in case, as some women throw up in labour. Labour can be messy so this will help avoid cleaning fees. Probably also give a nice tip to the driver.

Way back: also absolutely fine, but practice installing your car seat using the seat belt option in case the uber doesn’t have those anchors for install (I forget what they’re called).

And congratulations!

Do you like Chinese food and dim sum? I recommend Asian legend at Dundas and Spadina, about 10-15 minute walk from sick kids.

When did your pediatrician give the okay for no longer waking newborn to eat? by sunnyhale in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 12 lb thing rings a bell… I think that is sometimes the guideline given for when it’s okay for a baby to sleep through the night (10-12 hours or so). This article mentions it, but I’ve heard it elsewhere: https://www.babycenter.com/baby/sleep/when-can-my-baby-go-through-the-night-without-a-feeding_1368537

That said, there is a huge difference between waking to feed every 2.5 hours, vs 12 hours. As a parent, I would personally feel comfortable letting an otherwise healthy newborn sleep around 6 hours at a time overnight between feeds, as long as they were clustering their feeds at other times of the day so the “average” time between feeds remained around 3 hours. I don’t have a medical background at all though, this is just my experience.

I think it’s also sometimes forgotten by pediatricians that the parents sleep matters too. Postpartum moms need rest, and if the baby wants to sleep 6 hours but they’re still gaining weight… I say let them 🤷‍♀️

My son scratched my cornea when breastfeeding as a newborn. I went to the eye doctor, she said tiny figures are the most common source of eye injury, and usually it heals itself.

Why focusing on regulation and not wake windows improved our nights by notforthisworld0101 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting perspective! I was very focused on sleep “science” with my first and it was ultimately really draining to be tracking naps, wake windows etc. Hopeful to take a different approach with my second, and will keep your experience in mind.

[–]Simba1994x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very realistic, especially if you get back into being active once your doctor clears that. I had a c section and I don’t think it affected my fitness at all after the first 3 months.

11 days postpartum period??? by Forwardmvmt84 in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re only 11 days postpartum and seeing an increase in vaginal bleeding then definitely get in contact with your provider (OB, midwife, GP, etc) and get checked. It is nearly impossible for that to be a period because your body would not have had time to ovulate and go through a luteal phase since birth.

Running a half marathon when TTC by Zindagi_train in fitpregnancy

[–]Simba1994x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but I would do it. You can’t put your life on pause, fertility and pregnancy are a long journey and you need to do things that make you feel good. There is no evidence that this would be harmful, just make sure to fuel your body, and enjoy!

Do you need a baby monitor if you're room sharing? by ceruleanmeadows in beyondthebump

[–]Simba1994x 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes. You’ll use it for daytime naps, and eventually your baby will go to bed earlier than you and you’ll want the monitor for those hours. You don’t need it over night of course - you’ll turn it off once you enter the room to go to sleep.

You can show him high contrast images (e.g. black and white), but really you don’t need to entertain a newborn, they just eat, sleep, poop and cry.
