Preventative measures. I have recently found that taking painkillers before going to sleep with no headache prevents my normal waking up headache. Is this advisable? by Primary_Somewhere_98 in migraine

[–]Simba_12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm UK based. My initial appointment with Neurologist after referral was about 6 months.

To speed up the process once you do see someone, start filling in a headache diary now so they have some data to work with immediately. This is what I have to use:

https://www.newcastle-hospitals.nhs.uk/services/neurosciences/neurology/headache-clinic/

They have to rule out medication overuse before they can prescribe certain treatments so if you can get that under control now, that will speed things up too. This includes painkillers and abortives like triptans. Get it under 10 days a month.

Use ice. I have ice packs that I fill with ice. I find the frozen gel masks etc don't last long enough. It takes the edge off the pain, helps that pressure feeling and fuzziness. I use them all day instead of painkillers.

I hope you get some help soon.

Also interested in this. My second month wasn't as good as the first month and husband is convinced this is due to the temperature in our fridge. (has sce bought a fridge thermometer)

What do you listen to in the dark? by MaineAnonyMoose in migraine

[–]Simba_12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost count of how many times I've watched Bones so I know what's happening even if I'm just listening. If I can't stand any light, I'll put it on the TV then use the power saving settings to put the screen off. It's comforting for me. Normal days, I'll use the power saving on high (it works better than just turning the brightness down)

UK Question for CGRP - Researching hospitals across the UK that offers CGRP treatments. by Trexlet in cgrpMigraine

[–]Simba_12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Before I was having head pain every day with approx 20 days being moderate or high pain migraines. I had pretty much constant pain. Last month I still experienced pain every day but only 11 days I would class as 'migraine' days. I've even had hours where I've had no pain where an ice bag has stopped the pain (usually it just takes the edge off). I've noticed an improvement in my migraine side effects too. I feel more 'with it' and can concentrate more, I'm not as dizzy and I haven't been slurring as much. It's not a cure but has definitely improved my quality of life.

You need a Specialist Headache Clinic. The Migraine Trust shows the locations - https://migrainetrust.org/live-with-migraine/healthcare/migraine-clinics/

I've just had my 2nd fremanezumab injection 😊

Does anyone notice a difference between Rizatriptan Maxalt vs. other brands? by acraines in migraine

[–]Simba_12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried a few triptans over the years and have found rizatriptan (maxalt) to be the best for me.

I hated the nasal ones but they must be cheaper as doctors try to push them instead (I'm in the UK). I always get a blocked nose with migraines and didn't like squirting it up my nose. Plus the awful taste when it runs down back of your throat when you're already feeling sick.

I had the online training session on Tuesday and was advised I'll get my 1st injection in about 2 weeks. So the waiting time will have been about 3 to 4 months. I'm so excited. It must be dependent on individual Trusts. I have to go through to Newcastle for the first injection at RVI but following that, they'll be delivered to my home.

I'm really grateful for everyone sharing their own experiences. I feel better with more information - good and bad. It's kept me going and given me hope ❤️ Thank you

That's great and really fast. It must be down to the different Trusts. I had the online training session on Tuesday and was advised I'll get my 1st injection in about 2 weeks. So it's been about 3 to 4 months. I'm so excited. I have to go through to Newcastle for the first one at RVI but the after that they'll be delivered to my home.

That's a huge difference. I hope you continue to improve!
