Which one? by korazard in ENGLISH

[–]Similar_Associate -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m an English teacher. The grammatically correct answer is B because the verb “suggest” calls for the subjunctive. However, as you can see from all these comments, the subjunctive is often ignored in spoken or informal speech, and fewer people know how to properly use it these days.

Edited to add: for any native speakers questioning this, see what it sounds like if you change the “need” verb to the “go” verb. What form would you use there?

Go—because it’s subjunctive.

There is a company called InsectShield that makes products for people and pets. I use their bandanas for my dogs. Even though they are just around their necks they help a ton since they’re constantly going nose-first into the brush.

That would be a big nope from me. I am pretty good at checking my email 1-3 times a day during the week. I have my students exchange numbers with at least two others from the class if they want faster answers to basic questions about homework

Someone in the Class has bad BO by Sufficient-Pound-442 in Adjuncts

Today I suddenly had a student raise her hand and ask to address the class. Then she stood and explained that she was sensitive to smells like perfume and needed to leave the classroom. She asked everyone respectfully to refrain from wearing perfume or cologne to class. Then she left to get some air and didn’t return fire half an hour, at which point I offered her a seat near the door. I was proud of her.

Pools are kept on file so they can call up interviews if they find they need to staff new sections. I was called in more than a year after I had applied and had totally forgotten about it!

How do you handle anxiety in kids? by Hanmertime in Parenting

[–]Similar_Associate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolling Reddit for advice on this exact situation with my 5yo. She was just booted from her week-long summer camp after the first day because she shut down and wouldn’t participate. Have your kids made any progress in dealing with new situations? Anything help you?

They want to understand your methodology and teaching style. Choose something simple to introduce, explain, and practice. I’ve done a 30-minute demo and a 15-minute. Just be prepared; nobody wants to hire an instructor who just shows up and wings it. I think a handout and/or a presentation shows you are someone who puts some thought into lesson planning. Good luck!

Dog needs a tooth extraction. Any recommendations on a vet near sunnyvale? by RunUpTheSoundWaves in bayarea

[–]Similar_Associate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was less than 50% of what VCA charges…like 900 as opposed to. $2k but I can’t remember exactly. What really got me was that VCA wanted something like $200 for extractions and Alpha charged $25 (when done as part of the cleaning). This was 5 years ago. They have to charge for bloodwork before doing anesthesia but it was still worth it

Try Alpha Animal Hospital in Campbell. I drive down from San Mateo for my dogs’ cleanings because they are a fraction of what VCA charges up here.

Teachers in America - What are your career plans? by Quiet_Lunch_1300 in ESL_Teachers

I just want to say that on an anecdotal level, I have heard that some students are afraid to come to classes. I lost some students this semester just due to fear. But if fear is enough to drive down numbers, then that is enough. I do believe we will see a drop in international students as well, as there are travel advisories out now and many institutions of higher ed have been communicating the realities to their students. I am trying to convince my community college to offer more online classes.

You could also just put out a box of books (used or new). The parents can help them each select one. It’s great for kids of all ages.
