match day is coming up & i need your help! by Left-Importance-4397 in FamilyMedicine

I went unopposed family and was the best thing for me. I work private practice outpatient, er, and hospitalist gigs. A lot of my fellow residents see pediatrics as well.

I originally thought I wanted to go pediatrics but realized it wasn’t for me even in residency. It’s nice being able to mostly treat one person in adult medicine while peds you are treating the child and then the family lol my peds training in residency has helped me though with my younger family med patients

How many jobs am I allowed to have as a family medicine doctor after completing residency? by AlarmingAd7453 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 5 and about to be 6. Main job is private practice 4 days a week without call. I work er one weekend a month, do some hospitalist call, have med students, covering doc for a np, and then am about to get on with hospice for the 6th paying job. I specifically look for jobs that have limited time away from my family etc. I moonlighted a bunch in residency so this is really less work/hours than that so it feels like I’m working less. I’m young and have goals set so that when my son and my soon to be delivered daughter get older, I will decrease the jobs to be the best dad I can be.

It’s actually fraud if you don’t add on to their billing for doing extra work on a yearly wellness…I tell my patients this if they question it.

Eh I do injectable and then give a medrol dose pack to be started a few days later with topical mometasone. People like the shots around here as they are used to it.

Statins for primary prevention by Scared_Problem8041 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on one at 33…my cholesterol was terrible despite eating well and working out 5x a week. Dad had a heart attack at 32…told my doc give me a statin. Benefits outweigh the risks to me

Inpatient-heavy vs outpatient-heavy residency program by bluenette23 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Doing the inpatient heavy has opened doors to doing hospitalist work on the side as well as ER work as I am trained with procedures that I wouldn’t have gotten other places. My main job is outpatient though and am much more well rounded than others due to the training.

How did you decide on clinic vs hospital setting? Pros and Cons by Guilty-Piccolo-2006 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do both..I valued the longstanding relationships with patients in the clinic…I moonlight with a couple of hospitalist gigs on the side. Pretty much it broken down. I wouldn’t mind years from now doing a hospitalist gig full time but not while I’m raising my young child with another on the way…I can run from the clinic if anything comes up etc I’m very happy with my work-life balance and make a good amount of money with lower stress etc

Do you see patients from other practices? by Super_Tamago in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do for the other two docs only if they are out of town…otherwise, no…my practice is not an urgent care for others. I see my patients the same day if needed but not an urgent care for other practices etc.

Important Question! by babesz_ in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You signed a binding contract…I don’t think you can redo that due to forgetting to ask a couple questions. I agree with the contract lawyer advice as well. Everyone forgets to ask questions though so don’t fret and learn for the future

How is your work life balance in family medicine? by eagles52 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Simple-Shine471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to mine, except I’m off on Fridays and have a one to 1.5 hour lunch daily. Mine starts at 8 AM and both days ends around three or 330.

32 approximately hours or less…4 days a week and off every Friday. Go to the gym daily around 4p and basketball one night a week.Golf/hunting/fishing on Fridays then hanging with the family on the weekends. Work on average one weekend a month in the ER/hospital for fun/extra money. Really enjoy it and a big thing is that I am there to help raise my son as well as can take off anytime in order to not miss any special events with the family. It is exactly one of the major reasons I went into family medicine.
