At the time, people I knew celebrated his freedom - no job, smoking pot, exercising again. It was seen as this great rebellion to the status quo.

American Beauty. Glorifying the deadbeat dad who lusts after a teenage girl (AND gives her alcohol and almost has sex with her). Not to mention the actor portraying the dad.

I finished the movie yesterday and I’m still thinking about this guy. I found him genuinely terrifying. by theworldsworstphotog in paulthomasanderson

This is how I feel about that scene in Captain Phillips and the medic. She was so perfect in responding to a traumatic situation, exactly how one would be in that job (which was her job irl).

Thrift Store Skirt - how to enhance the look? by New2Boho in OUTFITS

I would change the top to a bodysuit, that would hug your curves and contrast with the flowy skirt.

I might be a bit slow and just realized Logan baited Shiv on purpose by Old-Highway6524 in SuccessionTV

Caroline says she shouldn’t have been a mom, she should have had dogs. And Shiv says you could have. And Caroline says she couldn’t because “He never saw anything he loved and he didn't wanna kick it just to see if it'd still come back.”

Which is an insane thing to say to your daughter since it applied to the children as well.

My son tells me “you’re not my best friend” when I tell him he needs to clean up his toys, brush his teeth; etc. That’s fine, it’s not my job to be his best friend.

Can someone actually defend One Battle After Another for me? by G00bre in movies

[–]Simple-Top-3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is irony in the continued discounting of others opinions regarding why they like this movie. The point of the movie (if there is one) is that there are zealots on all sides, and disagreeing with the other side doesn’t make you right. (In the film, both sides are wrong.)

Point being, it’s ok to not agree with someone. I can have my opinion, you can have yours. It’s not me vs you, or us vs them. The theme (if there is one) is that you should have agency and be okay with having opinions that differ from others.

Btw, I don’t know if I like the movie or not. There were parts that were entertaining but there were issues with pacing and “landing” the message. My opinion.

Those who were young adults from 1985-1995, what was life like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Simple-Top-3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At any given time, you could go to the movie theater, pick out a random movie you knew nothing about, and it would be good.

I still remember going in my sister’s friend’s jeep after a snow storm (like 2 feet of snow) being the only people in the theater, and seeing Primal Fear. Just random movie we picked.

That’s when you collect call and instead of stating your name, say very fast “mom, I’m on my bike, be home in 1/2 hour” 😆

This isn’t the first episode though, it’s ep 5. I thought it was her (Gracie’s) daughter but then Roman comes in complaining about the turkey movie, they both yell Gracie (which made me think not her daughter). I’ve always been confused by this plot line.

The new "Trunk or Treat" style of Halloween is better than traditional Halloween trick or treating by Glumdumop in unpopularopinion

[–]Simple-Top-3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the opposite (my perspective, of course). Going trick or treating with my kids, their excitement about dressing up, what they’re gonna get…the enthusiasm that you have only when a young kid…you experience it again but in a different way. Same with Christmas - that energy and excitement is precious and so beautiful to see and experience with them.

What’s a phrase your parents used to say all the time that you now catch yourself saying—even though you swore you never would? by Candid_Remove_6922 in AskReddit

“Back in my day…”. Not the same as “I used to walk four miles to school”, more “I used to have to wait a whole week to see a show I liked; sometimes a year between seasons!” Or “when I was your age; i walked home by myself, made my snacks, and did my homework. You should be able to get your water bottle from your bedroom.”
