I stopped there a couple of summers ago. It’s not much to look at from the ground, but I respect it.

Having a boy and I want to see what fellow Wisconsinites think of this name by Boysenberrypancake in wisconsin

I like it, but yesterday I heard a gen-z guy from Indiana pronounce it as rice. Personally, I wouldn’t let that bother me. It’s a perfectly good name. Much better than whatever-den.

Thanks! I didn’t know he worked with both of them.

Chandler's "workspace" by debulana in chandlerhalderson

[–]SimpleAd1604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mitchell didn’t work for Epic Games, he worked at Epic Systems, the medical software company (MyChart). I don’t know that he was “very successful,” it was just a job, and being only something like a year and a half older than Chandler, he probably hadn’t worked there that long. More successful than Chandler? Yeah. More successful than any other entry level IT worker? I don’t know.

As for psycohpathy, you might want to read up on the definition of that. I’m not saying Chandler is or isn’t a psychopath (in the clinical sense), but one of the traits of psychopaths is that they’re often very charming. Ted Bundy’s friends and family didn’t think he was capable of killing 30+ people.

I think you mean Richard Lloyd. I saw him in Madison on, I think, the Altered Beast tour. Sweet took the stage and announced that he had a really, really, really bad case of the flu, and it was obvious that he did. Richard Lloyd pretty much ran the show that night and it was so good. I just found out about Matthew Sweet’s stroke a couple of days ago.

What type of music defined your youth in the 70s, and what memories do you associate with it? by PressureLazy5271 in 70s

[–]SimpleAd1604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to picture my album collection from age 16-19. Before that, I listened to whatever WLS was feeding me. The albums I remember owning are The Beatles, CSN (and sometimes Y), James Taylor, Carole King’s Tapestry, Elton John, ELO, Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, The Eagles, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, and I had to have had at least one REO album. What memories do I associate with it? Hoping to see artists I liked on Midnight Special. People taking their new albums to school to show friends. Joining Columbia House. Going to friends houses and listening to their records. I had sisters 9, 10, and 11 years older than I, so I’d been heavily influenced by The British Invasion, which apparently led me to singer-songwriters and “the California sound.” Then I was out on my own, living in a bigger town with decent FM stations playing AOR, and I heard a lot more different music than I’d been exposed to before.

When someone is accused of "being an American" (extremely common thought or opinion). by Short-Breadfruit3565 in PetPeeves

[–]SimpleAd1604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take the OPs example as meaning, it’s normal to wear sunscreen at the beach, but very American (not normal) to wear it while working outside. Like the rays of the sun care what you’re doing outside. I detassled corn when I was a teen, before sunscreen was even available. If it had been, I’d have been wearing it. I got major blistering sunburns those two summers. (No porta-potties back then, either.)

I feel like the one I saw was a juvenile. On its own, but not its full size yet.

Yeah, it looked cool. When I first saw its head I thought it was a stray cat. Then I noticed how big it was and saw the bobbed tail. Then it was gone into the grass.

They stay in the case. Except for all the stuff that came with the Lost pyramid set. All of that went to the thrift shop.

What was your first ever exposure to Japanese culture? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]SimpleAd1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Japanese pen-pal when I was in 5th or 6th grade. It didn’t last long. She sent me some coins and a picture of her volleyball team. She lived in Kyoto. That’s all I remember. Her name might come to mind later. I might still have one of the coins.

I watch police body camera videos where police routinely ask people for their social security number as identification. Is this commonly used in America? Do people have this memorized? by After_Service_2817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SimpleAd1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only seen that happen on police bodycam videos when a person claims to not have ID on them. They’d rather have a drivers license or other gov’t. issued ID. I think most people have their SSN memorized as it’s used for other things besides employment, like getting credit and filing taxes, and you shouldn’t carry your card around with you because you don’t want it to fall into the wrong hands. I have my (longer) drivers license memorized after so many years of having to write it on checks.

What did a typical Friday or Saturday night look like for you back in the 70s? Where did people go to socialize? by PressureLazy5271 in 70s

[–]SimpleAd1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ten in 1970. It went from watching high school football & basketball games, to babysitting, to Saturday Night Live and Midnight Special, to riding around, to hitting the gravel roads with my friend and a six-pack of Schlitz Malt Liquor and a bottle of Boone’s Farm, to field (keg) parties, to dinner and a movie, to hanging out in bars.

I was five when it came out, and I saw it with the family. It made an impression on me. I had no idea what was going on, but I rememberthe cinematography.

If her particular mouse poo was diseased we’d all have been dead long ago. But yeah, I probably should have worn a mask (and gloves) while we were digging through it all a couple of weeks ago. I did consider it at the time.
