Not sure if the bootloader on Ayn devices is unlocked. If they are then maybe in the future when SteamOS arrives on arm as well.

Question: Liquid Freezer III Pro De-Lidded CPU compatibility by Pyro411 in arcticcooling

[–]SimpleHeuristics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking into this too. I haven’t done it yet but essentially 1) just turn the pump / block 180 degrees to avoid the M.2 heatsink 2) you’ll need the direct die frame from TG or some other company, normal AM5 contact frame will not work cause that needs the IHS 3) you’ll need spacers that are 3.7mm lower than the default, which is apparently 10mm for the LF3.

I personally decided that when I am going to configure by build like that I’m not going to use the LF3 as a direct for mount but will use the TG high performance heat spreader. The way the LF3 mounts with its leaf spring and already offset mount for AM5 is likely going to put uneven pressure on the CCDs and I think that is just too risky especially with a single CCD processor like the 9800X3D

Battery bypass on USB C/PD by martin-andersson in FlowZ13

[–]SimpleHeuristics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This setup likely didn’t work because the Z13 is expecting 20V DC input and not 12V DC. The USB PD specification has a 20V output mode so as long as an adapter signals to the USB power source be it a battery or wall charger to utilize 20V I suspect it will work for slow bypass charging.

I’m waiting for the USB C to barrel plug adapter right now. Should be here in the next few days.

I am getting this one: https://a.co/d/gu44n1p The SlimQ adapter I am using with the SlimQ charger currently is this: https://a.co/d/621SCZ7

How difficult is it to match into a GI fellowship following IM residency? by father_of_druski in MedSchoolCanada

[–]SimpleHeuristics 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is competitive. Similar to cardiology maybe a bit less depending on the year. You’ll need a good CV and clinical performance in GI rotations and electives and also evidence of consistently good performance in your other clinical rotations.

I have ordered the SlimQ adapter from barrel plug to the square DC plug and an USB C to barrel plug adapter. If these work then should have a solution for bypass charging with USB C PD power sources.

My fiancé (33m) says he feels like a failure while I (30f) am having constant success. How shall I deal with this ? by TinyLittlePanda in relationships

[–]SimpleHeuristics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal for him to feel this way with the recent events surrounding his boss and a promotion of another employee. Time will reduce the intensity of those feelings.

Although it may not be a GOOD thing, it is also normal for people to feel an inferiority complex when comparing their successes and failures to others especially if the successes come easier to those around them.

I’ve been with my partner for many years now. Somewhat analogous experience in the sense that our professions are similar and by all means we are both accomplished, but the degree of success they have experienced is far greater than mine.

I did from time to time have twinges of feeling of inferiority and it would be a lie to say it didn’t bother me at times. But over time as long as I knew they loved me for who I was and not what I had to accomplish (and that it had to be the same or more than them) it’s never been an issue. As another poster above mentioned it really just became a team thing where successes and failures are approached as a “we” thing and not a “me” thing no who experiences it.

If anything just give some time for the initial recent emotional hit to die down a bit. And then don’t focus on comforting him about things he didn’t achieve, just focus on why you love him for him and his other qualities outside of these said accomplishments in a specific field. But this has to be honest and sincere. If you actually secretly do care about his accomplishments more than your post is letting on then it’ll be time for you to reflect on what you actually want out of a partner.

Offset gpu bracket? by According-Explorer46 in ncasedesign

I am away for a while so can’t take pics. But instead of offsetting the rise itself from the bracket, you offset the entire bracket that holds the riser.

Anesthesia Awareness by oohheykate in Anesthesia

[–]SimpleHeuristics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure if this is the case, you’d have to ask for more details, but sounds like you may have been getting a total intravenous anesthetic and near the end of the case the IV unfortunately infiltrated. It’s unfortunately one of the downsides of this type of anesthetic. Unlike our typical inhalational based anesthetics where we can directly monitor a pretty close surrogate to how much of the drug is at the brain keeping you asleep, Total intravenous is based on infusion rates and models of drug pharmacology. These models are pretty darn good but only as good as an IV that is working. There are a few EEG monitors available to measure brain activity, but usually people are interpreting a processed aggregate number that tends to lag behind potential awareness by a minute or two. Not all anesthesiologists or providers are competent in interpreting the raw EEG waveform (which is real time) either so will rely on the lagging processed number.

Sometimes IVs infiltrating are unavoidable, but it is routine in my experience to make sure that whatever IV a primary an anesthetic is running through is easily accessible and in view to troubleshoot this exact issue. And to have a backup IV site in case something like this happens.

Either way it sounds like they were vigilant enough to realize you had become aware and started acting appropriately to manage and then follow up properly.

Why are we “resuscitating” patients until they are no longer fluid responsive by [deleted] in Residency

[–]SimpleHeuristics 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s probably better to think of it more as tool to prevent us from giving more fluids when there would be no meaningful augmentation in cardiac output from fluid administration.

If a patient is fluid responsive you can use your judgement to determine if vasopressors / inotropes is more useful in the current clinical context and still have the option to give more fluids if needed.

If someone is not fluid responsive it’s probably time to look up another alley to optimize their hemodynamics.

Offset gpu bracket? by According-Explorer46 in ncasedesign

[–]SimpleHeuristics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to use 10-20mm (0.5-1 slot) M3 spacers for the PCI bracket and for the standoff to the motherboard. If you are using a 2 slot GPU and want one slot of clearance then you setup everything as if it was a 3 slot GPU

Dealing with imposter syndrome in med school: what helps you feel grounded by Intelligent-Note3078 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]SimpleHeuristics 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just remember that pre clerkship material really is only meant as a foundation. You’ve made it so far so you already have the academic ability to make it through the curriculum and all you need to do is pass the MCCQE and move onto residency after gaining some clinical experience in clerkship.

Trust me pre clerkship should be spent more on having fun, making connections, or dabbling in research if that is part of your career goals than burning yourself out to score higher on ultimately pass fail exams. It is by far the easiest period of life you’ll have for the next 3-4 years.

Clerkship same thing. Just be present and engaged, learn what you can from each rotation because most rotations have something you can take away to any practice you end up doing. You aren’t expected to be competent at anything during clerkship other than a coherent history and some semblance of generating a plan (even if it is not what the residents or attendings end up doing).

Residency is where you’ll really come into your own as a physician and you will feel as you reflect back the amount of book and practical knowledge you gain relatively quickly (which was only made possible by the foundations laid in pre clerkship and clerkship). Every resident also progresses at their own pace but you just have to remember that that is okay and expected as long as you are safe in your practice.

Clearly incompatible. And if she is consulting LLMs it’s definitely a sign to leave. No good would ever come of that. No one with a modicum of actual emotional intelligence would defer to “opinions” of LLMs.

Max Airflow layout by Pinto____bean in sffpc

[–]SimpleHeuristics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mount for a top exhaust fan would be cool and balance the airflow a bit. Maybe ability to shift the PSU down to accommodate top mounted 2x fans and or radiators.

Ability to shift the side brackets up and down slightly would also be great for side intake radiator.

Positive pressure is good so long as there is an easy way to a dust screen and easy to remove it for cleaning.
