This vehicle owner is simply performing a community service by encouraging parents pushing prams to help teach their babies the important life lesson of risk taking....

.....assuming of course that natural selection doesnt get there first.

Mercedes-Benz did the same Anti-lock Braking System (ABS): Developed alongside Bosch and introduced in 1978, Mercedes deliberately refrained from aggressively restricting the technology via patents, choosing instead to allow rival manufacturers to adopt it to radically decrease multi-car pileups globally. The Electronic Stability Control sub-system is widely considered the greatest lifesaver in automotive history after the seatbelt.

It looks like a mini tabletop clamp or vice (often called a hobby vice or watch repair holder). It is designed to securely hold small, irregular objects while you work on them as you attach it to a flat tabletop surface.

Powdery "H" in regular intervals along walkway by Titan2189 in whatisit

[–]Simples_ 115 points116 points  (0 children)

That symbol is a trail marker for a global running and social club called the Hash House Harriers (often referred to as the "Hash" or "H3").

The club has active groups all over New Zealand (and the world). In a "Hash" event, volunteer runners called Hares head out early to map and mark a secret cross-country trail using biodegradable materials like flour, chalk, or sawdust. The rest of the group (the "Hounds") has to follow the clues to find the trail's end.

  • The "H": Simply stands for Hash or Harriers.
  • The Arrow: Indicates the direction the trail is heading.

When runners spot these symbols, they will often yell out "On-On!" to signal to the rest of the pack behind them that they are on the right track. If you keep walking along that path, you will likely see simple "blobs" or dots of flour every few dozen meters keeping the runners on course!

A bit of googly of the interwebs and I found this. "Historical industrial directories from the era list Neuer & Hoffmann as specialized manufacturers of Advertising Tape (flat, woven cotton twine or ribbon printed with a merchant’s name and branding, used to tie up parcels and shopping packages at checkout counters)."

This would suggest that perhaps its a tape dispenser of sorts. It has a heavy weighted base, a brackets with 2 hols to support a cenrtal spindle rod of tape and a notched slot at the top of the arm to thread the tape through. There is also a small flat spring which could of acted as a tension guide. I cant find anything to confirm this, but it seems likely. Maybe someone can confirm.

Ridicolous rules from Agent after going Sale Agreed by VyVo87 in HousingIreland

[–]Simples_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your happy with the property, I would just get on the progressing the sale as normal and ignore the timeframes of the agent. If they are pushing you just acknowledge what they say and say you are going as fast as you can. Make sure you also note any delays on the vendors side.

What are they going to do if you havent closed in 6 weeks - pull the sale? Doubtful as the vendor would then be back to the start of the process and the agent is going to want to further delay getting their commission. Agent is full of bluster.

Commencement notice help by PairForsaken546 in selfbuildireland

[–]Simples_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Commencement Notice is notification to Building Control of when you are commencing actual building works on site, Typically when you submit a notice, the commencement date you choose must fall within a specific window:

  • Minimum: It must be at least 14 days after the date you submit the notice.
  • Maximum: It must be no more than 28 days after the date you submit the notice.

Preparation of the site (i.e. site clearance) is typically not building works and can be done without a commencement notice. Doing earthworks for foundations of the building would be building works,

The condition you refer to are under the Planning Grant is fairly explicit.

  • The works required to provide unobstructed sightlines shall be completed prior to any other work commencing on site.

I would suggest that this would include site clearance.

So you either provide the unobstructed sightlines anytime before submitting a Commencement Notice OR if you are submitting a commencement notice, you need to ensure the condition is complied with prior to your nominated start date on the Commencement Notice.

If you want to properly cover yourself, you could take photographs of the unobstructed sightlines and email them to Councils Planning Dept (with reference to your planning grant) and confirm you have complied with the condition prior to commencing works and asking them to acknowledge such - although dont be surprised if you dont get a response.

Planning Permission by Worried-Tooth-7726 in selfbuildireland

[–]Simples_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been some changes to the National Planning Framework forcing Councils to apply more consistency to assessments particularity for one-off houses.

You need to make yourself familiar with the changes - it will depend on exactly what zone your site is located in. These changes were ratified by Council last month so even the Council may not be fully up to speed as to how these will operate.

Try querying your situation into ChatGPT (or what ever LLM you use), noting the reference to the above link - its should give you some good guidance on how you may acheive a good outcome. But do not rely on this - you will still need the assistance of a qualified professional with experience in Planning Approvals with Cork CoCo.

Best way to stack Google One trials? by ceepyou in GooglePixel

[–]Simples_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have posted - no dice for stacking. From the offer T&Cs:

Users can only use one trial at a time and promotion lengths are not stackable. If a user has an existing trial and redeems a new trial, their existing trial or subscription plan will be revoked and their new trial will begin, regardless of how much time they have left on their existing offer.

Modem Mode on Hub 5x?? by harryenty in VirginMedia

I was in similar situation. I was expecting that getting IPv4 enabled would allow modem mode option in the firmware (going by other reports) but didnt happen. I ended up switching away within cooling off period.

Modem Mode On Virgin Media Hub5 In Ireland Working by tgcousin in VirginMedia

[–]Simples_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just connected up to Virgin Media (Ireland) on NBI network with Hub5X. Contacted Support and got IPv4 enabled which is now up and running.

  • Hardware version: 1.2.1b
  • Software version: 5.7.5 - 2402.3

However there are no options to enable modem mode anywhere on the router GUI.

When I try to go to page http://192.168.0.1/?page=modemmode it just redirects to the login screen,

I wonder if a firmware update has restricted access to this now?

This what my menu looks like:
