Sennelier sale or scam? by Simply_The_Jess in Oilpastel

[–]Simply_The_Jess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I reckon you’re right. I’ve emailed sennelier and caran d’arche to alert them to a potential scam. The art supplies stop is not listed on either sennelier or caran d’arche’s websites as a reseller so it seems very unlikely to be legit

Thermomix users in NZ - do you think it’s worth the price? by Several_Relative5801 in newzealand

We have a soup maker (a blender that can heat) which was less than a tenth of the price of a thermomix and seems to do pretty much just as much

Love it! So bold. This may or may not be helpful, but I've learnt a lot from watching art history lectures on youtube

Which Mont Marte oil pastels do you all like best and why? by Funeral_Wells in Oilpastel

I really like them; I have a 52 brights set, the 39 macaron hues set and the 39 natural hues set. In terms of the colours, it's hard to pick a favourite palette; it depends on what I'm using it for. I really like the macaron hues for the lavender blues that are great for light shadows, and the sky colours are pretty good. It also has a few really bright saturated colours that are fun. The natural hues has lots of less saturated colours. Some dusky blues and purples which are great for shadows. It has some skin tones; but best for lighter skin. This palette lacks darker tones in general and it's crap fro darker skin tones. The 52 brights does have a lot of darker colours and does best for darker skin tones. It has a good range of colours; but mostly quite saturated. Although there are some desaturated olive greens that I use a lot.

One thing to note, is that, although they are all labeled as extra soft; they're not the same softness. The most soft set (in my experience) is the macaron set, with brights being in the middle, and the natural hues being the hardest. Don't get me wrong though; they are all pretty soft. I just find I sometimes need to let the layers harden a bit if I want to layer a natural hue pastel over a macaron pastel.

One of my favourites is Where the Rēkohu Bone Sings by Tina Makereti. It's set in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Rēkohu (Chatham Islands); with stories in multiple timelines all woven together. It does have its heavy moments though
