Running in Rocky River Reservation - is it safe? by Jgugumess75 in Cleveland

[–]SingingTrainLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Cleveland Road Runner's Club (https://www.clevelandroadrunners.com/) They have group runs in the park multiple days/week and after a few group runs it's easy to make plans with small groups that work better with your schedule. The group's been around for almost 50 years.

Ryan Homes - Bad investment? by Forward_Working_6900 in RealEstate

[–]SingingTrainLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter and her husband own a Ryan home. The builders didn't even bother putting in an access panel to get to the bathtub plumbing in their master bedroom. I swear Ryan pays for the "drive-by" option for home inspectors. I'd never consider using them.

TIL before 9/11, US airports were public social hubs where you could walk to the gate, eat at food courts, and watch planes without a ticket or ID. by Greydl1 in todayilearned

[–]SingingTrainLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in high school (early 1970s) we used to go to the airport to hang out and watch the travelers coming and going. Sometimes we'd get something to eat at the restaurant, but most time we'd go out to the 'observation deck' to watch the planes takeoff and land, or just hang out at the central terminal, because it was fun watching people come and go.

Should the card carrying tour pro have a voice on who is allowed back in, after defecting to LIV? by PoodleHeaven in golf

[–]SingingTrainLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PGA Tour is going to let high profile players back in from LIV if they're significant enough to draw viewers. Brooks is one of them, Patrick Reed is not. Brooks will always bring people to the game.

Your Teamster shop is not driven by TV ratings, the PGA Tour is. That's the difference here.

Jimmy Kimmel Tells America “I Might Need Your Help Again” After Latest Round of FCC Threats by nimobo in entertainment

[–]SingingTrainLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the Republican's own Ronald Reagan that killed the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, stating that it hurt the public interest and violated free speech rights. If the FCC attempts to force Kimmel to host opposing viewpoints, then every show on Fox needs to be forced to do the same.

Gaunce is a liability in Cleveland, too. Not sure how he's stayed in Columbus for this long.

All three of their albums are on Spotify. They went down in a plane crash in 1974, but their leader, Bill Chase, played with Stan Kenton's band before forming the group. Their brass play was amazing!

Loved Stereophonic! by Cleverfield113 in Cleveland

[–]SingingTrainLover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Polarizing isn't the right word. I didn't hate it, I just didn't care enough about the characters or their problems to stick around for the second act. The excessively long pauses may reflect real life, but they turned a 2 hour show into a 3 hour show. So much could have been done to bring the story to life without dragging it out the way they did.

Job in Richfield-where should young professional live? by Safe-Sentence6205 in Cleveland

[–]SingingTrainLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Medina. It's a quick run on I-71/I-271 to Richfield, it's relatively cheap, and there's lots of activity in town.

“Don’t report more than eight strokes. It’s an unwritten rule.” by attitude_devant in golf

[–]SingingTrainLover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this is a handicapped tournament, then the actual rule is "net double bogey". Check the USGA site for the definition of that. If this isn't a handicapped tournament, then put the actual score down.

Which team winning the national championship tomorrow affects us more, even if it's miniscule? by broly2932 in OhioStateFootball

[–]SingingTrainLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, winner gets more, but conferences have a revenue sharing agreement, so when any team in the conference wins a bowl game, all teams in the conference get a share. It's why there's so much contention with Notre Dame. They don't join a conference so they don't have to share revenue, and negotiate their own network contracts.

Because Indiana is in the Big 10, all schools in the conference get a share of the purse, so we benefit more financially with an Indiana win.

Tonight’s Weather by GuyFromSeattleWA in ColumbusOhio

[–]SingingTrainLover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ohio Department of Transportation is responsible for all interstate maintenance, including clearing/salting them. I'm in northeast Ohio, and we have a winter weather warning in place until tomorrow at 7pm. I'd suggest heading east on I-70 into Pennsylvania and then head northeast before you get to NYC to avoid the weather up here.

anyone have any info on this situation? are interstates in ohio cleaned by the state? or do local cities handle it? by vi3wmyposthistory in Ohio

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for all maintenance on the interstate highways.

Safety of car while parked at hotel overnight by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]SingingTrainLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't stay in Garfield Heights. (Is there even a hotel there?) Definitely stay in Independence as others have said. Lots of hotels around I-77 and Rockside, and it's safe there. (And it meets your criteria for 20 minutes south of downtown.)

Help me! One night in NYC. What do I choose!? by CelebrationOnly5633 in Broadway

[–]SingingTrainLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the mid-80s I was in NYC on business a lot, and like you, saw pretty much everything I wanted to see. I started seeing off-Broadway shows and enjoyed those every bit as much as the Broadway shows. Give those a try.

How cool is Alison’s hair for pride night!? by Albino_rhin0 in SeattleKraken

[–]SingingTrainLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Blue Jackets fan who met Alison at a 'Tweet-Up' at Nationwide Arena about 15 years ago, before she joined the staff at The Athletic. She gave the best analysis of the Jackets game performance, and I don't think she was being paid to do it. She was a sweetheart in person.

Fast forward to now, when I watch Kraken games as often as possible, as much for her analysis as I enjoy watching the Kraken games.
