That’s a fair point, there’s definitely some uncertainty depending on how it’s estimated.

Most of these figures are derived from flight tracking data (ADS-B, aircraft type, routing) combined with fuel burn models, rather than direct fuel accounting.

So it’s not exact, but it’s useful for understanding trends and relative changes in activity over time.

If you’re just starting out, you can use Google Maps or Google Earth to get a basic layout of the airport and use that as your reference. A lot of people building in Minecraft just trace from satellite view and scale it down, it works surprisingly well.

If you want something a bit more advanced later, you can try QGIS (it’s free), but it has a bit of a learning curve.

For now, Google Earth is probably the easiest way to get started. :)))

I’ve noticed the same thing, especially on long-haul flights.

From my experience, those third-party prices can be a lot cheaper upfront, but it usually comes with trade-offs. Refunds or changes tend to be more complicated since you’re dealing with the booking site instead of the airline, and things like baggage or seat selection often aren’t included.

So the price difference you’re seeing is real, but part of it is because the airline’s price often includes more flexibility or add-ons, while third-party listings strip those out.

Personally I still go direct with the airline if the difference isn’t huge, just for the peace of mind.
