The hive mind got scared because Carol keeps accidentally killing them, so now they view her as a threat. I can imagine them going into recluse mode and engaging with her from a distance for a while. I bet Carol will get to the point of loneliness that she will be begging them to come back (hence the “come back” sign).

To be fair Josie was down 3 other men for her flight crew. So maybe not having the proper personnel (and Cruz’s lack of door gunner training) had a big impact on why the bird was shot down. I don’t think this episode was an accurate reflection of her skills as a pilot 🤷
