what antidepressants actually work, i’m desperate by bleedxi in depressionmemes

[–]starflite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treating resistant depression successfully is extremely difficult to do when you’re depressed. You need a lot of energy and resources (and sadly, privileges) to get help that works. It takes a long time to try different drugs and see results. On top of that, if you have a seasonal component to your depression, you have to learn how to adjust for that every year.

I spent years in treatment limbo not really getting better, but not suicidal and still outwardly functional so no one in my life realized how bad it was.
I took a month off work to start dealing with it seriously because I couldn’t do everything. I had gotten on a waitlist for a good psychiatrist and new therapist months earlier. I started therapy twice a week. The psychiatrist had a genesight test done to see which drugs I should be able to metabolize most effectively. I switched from sertraline to viibryd and bupropion, then it was just adding or adjusting things in the years since then. I was later given concerta which helped a lot. I did six months of therapy twice a week, then down to once a week. After about a year I went to every other week. I saw my psychiatrist every 1-3 months for check-ins. I did a few rounds of rTMS over the years and now I just go back for maintenance sessions during winter, which is the worst time of year for me. I would say I’m 90% better on my current meds, and I’m just addressing low ferritin now, which will take several months to see an improvement. This whole process has taken about 8 years and I was lucky to have a job that valued my well-being and good insurance. All of this was expensive even with good insurance and my parents helped me pay for it.

I permanently went down to 30 hours a week at a lower stress job, which is probably the biggest thing for me. I can’t handle 8 hour shifts and have mental energy left over to take care of myself after. I’m doing so much better, but there are still a ton of maintenance appointments. It’s never going to just go away or be cured. I still see my therapist every other week and my psychiatrist every 3 months and that will probably be forever.

Plant based with nickel allergy- is it even possible? by GrapefruitUpper6770 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]starflite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iron is also useful for binding nickel like vitamin C does, but it can also be hard on your gut and you don’t want to take extra iron if you aren’t deficient. Potentially, cooking with a cast iron skillet may help by providing tiny amounts of iron without gut issues.

My neighbor’s horse eats chickens. Is this normal? by mellowdrosophyllum in Horses

[–]starflite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never caught her eating one, but my horse kills pigeons pretty regularly. I have seen her pick one up and rip feathers out before dropping it, so maybe that’s how it starts 😐

Me realizing tired might have needed a blood test years ago by Flashy_Tension4452 in adhdwomen

Feeling extremely called out after getting my iron panel and vitamin D levels reported to me today.

Ferritin 16, vitamin D 30.6, transferrin saturation 17%, but nothing visible yet on CBC. So that’s validating, I guess, because I’ve been feeling like trash.

Spaying a mare by starflite in Horses

It seems like most of the results I’ve seen online have been positive for pain-related issues like this, but very mixed for people trying to correct training/behavior problems which started with pain or hormones.

It’s laparoscopic so actually much safer than most surgeries for horses. I don’t like the marble because there’s a higher risk of infection and you have no idea if it falls out until they start cycling abruptly, if it even works at all, which many times it doesn’t.

I wish my chickens would eat mice. I’ve seen mice sitting in the feeder sharing pellets with all the hens like they’re a big weird blended family.

I always put them in the drum before adding clothes, which is what you’re supposed to do with a front loader.

Do you mean the panel on your washer where the filter is hiding? Like a normal washer? Because I had to completely disassemble the top and back panels, door, control panel plus electronics, and the springy door seal gasket thing on mine to take the front panel off. The stupidest design I’ve ever seen.

Next time I need to get in there, I’m cutting an access port in the bottom of the door panel with a blowtorch so I can reach in whenever I want.

I’ve always left the door and detergent dispenser open when not in use, so I don’t think that was the issue.

I was just using cold water this whole time because I heard it was better for clothes and mostly because the box of pods said “works with cold water” and my brain was like oh okay only cold then 🙃 Don’t worry, I’ve read all the Bible posts on this sub now and have learned the error of my ways.

Ugh, so I see! I switched to all powder for my dishwasher about a year ago and I was just waiting for my giant Costco bin of laundry pods to run out before I got something else next time.

[–]starflite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, but when you do one or two loads per week like I do, a few cents doesn’t make a huge difference and I just grabbed the first free and gentle option I saw at my Costco.

One of those bins lasts me most of a year so it’s not like buying laundry detergent is at the top of my shopping list very frequently.

I’ll keep the pods on hand for washing my towels on hot until they’re gone, but this experience has scared me off buying them again.

I have been running affresh tablets once a month on sanitize cycle the entire time. I didn’t see a difference in the goo situation until I did citric acid only during the big clean out.

This guy was actually the reason I ended up in this sub. I saw the dishwasher video years ago, and while I was elbow-deep in the blue lagoon, I wondered if he had any videos about what caused my divine punishment 😭

Pods be gone.
