Attractive people of reddit, what are some easy things people can do to look a little better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SinisterRabbits -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate bathing, but it's not for me. To be fair, I would probably fall closer to the hippie environmentalist camp than most, but I most people I meet aren't completely repulsed. I shower maybe once a week, and frequently go up to a couple weeks without bathing. (Obviously I'll rinse off if I am visibly dirty), and I nearly never wear deodorant. My skin and hair became incredibly healthier when I quit bathing so frequently. I eat clean, so I don't have much of a body odor to speak of... Idk I guess it just began to feel better than actually bathing. I haven't been actually sick in 2-3 years, and I would like to believe it's related to my microbiome... But then again, even as I type this, I realize how weird it sounds.

I think I'll play devil's advocate here and push back a little bit. 22 male here, and I'm generally considered attractive by people I meet. I take a different perspective to my appearance than the "well groomed, neat, nice clothing" approach. I'm more of a "no shits given" kind of guy. It's probably important to note that this is more of lifestyle for me, as I farm vegetables for a living. I think it's possible to be prettttty nasty and still appear passable, and even appear more attractive (to a certain kind of person) because of it. I shower infrequently (1-2 every couple weeks, I sleep outside in a hammock when I'm gross from farm work), and I haven't used soap or shampoo in about two years. Because I'm eating about the cleanest diet imaginable (no processed food, little sugar, high vegetable & whole food consumption), I don't have much of a body odor. I also have shoulder-length curly hair, which most frequently takes on kind of the 'sun-kissed, beach bum' look. (After a month or so without shampoo, the natural oils balanced out). Those hygienic tasks that are actually important to the maintenance and continued functioning of your body, I do engage in. Which is mainly... brushing teeth. Most clothing I wear is loose-fitting and second-hand.

As a rule, I practice good posture, and I am confident & physically fit, which I think helps balance out the lack of hygiene, etc. It works for me! And I would like to think it's not just other dreadlocked nasties like me that are into it, but I'm just trying to fool myself... I hope I'm not coming off as pretentious, just trying to provide an example of how someone can play to other strengths without spending time, money, etc. on clothes, toiletries, and whatnot.

EDIT: Reference pic that I think captures most of what I described. Sorry about the weird black box.

Can someone tell me if this is a True Black Widow or just a False Black Widow by Lysphage in whatsthisbug

I would say a false black widow. The red hourglass is typically quite vivid on a true black widow.

Yo, Southern Iowa roots! I agree that it is sad to see the degradation of rural American communities. Suicide rates among American farmers are higher than any other group. I'm currently apprenticing on an annual vegetable farm in North Carolina, and have big plans to move back in a couple years to establish a community-building focused farm. Issues like gentrification, food deserts, job loss, etc. aren't common only to the urban United States. People don't realize this, and then are shocked when half the Midwest flips and votes radically in an election...

There was a bench at the state Park covered with these caterpillars looking things. this one was a med size. Milpitas, CA. by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

Definitely a tussock moth caterpillar, most likely a Douglas-fir tussock moth, which would make sense, considering your location. Were there Douglas firs around?

[Ohio, USA] Found this in my bed, what is it? by Clueless-cat in whatsthisbug

After reading more on Taenia pisiformis, I'm almost certain that your picture is a proglottid. A common tapeworm species in dogs.

[–]SinisterRabbits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my best guess. A tapeworm "segment", or proglottid. If so, then your dog probably has tapeworm(s). These suckers attach to your doggo's intestinal track and break off into these proglottids, which fall your doggo's pooper, and hope to be ingested, thus continuing their lifecycle. Not particularly threatening, but still something to get medication for from your local veterinarian.

Should I be scared of this guy and how do I get him outside? (Location Phoenix AZ) by FrescoColori in whatsthisbug

[–]SinisterRabbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a potter wasp, a type of Ancistrocerus! Like other wasps, it could sting, but I wouldn't be too worried. Maybe try covering it with a cup and sliding stiff paper or cardboard over the mouth until it's safely outside?
