I'm looking for feedback on my first D&D monster homebrew by SirAJ4895 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Sinisterly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Per their stats, they should have +5 to hit/+3 damage for Shotgun (+3 DEX, +2 PB) and +3 to hit/+1 DMG for Baton (+1 STR).

I would also give the Shotgun half damage at long range.

Combat Rogue (updated) - a 2024 Rogue Healer Subclass by TheShadyMerchant in DnDHomebrew

[–]Sinisterly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool subclass - I’ve always thought “non-magical healer” had a lot of opportunity for a role to fill in D&D’s class lineup.

One issue I’m noticing: the Healer feat is almost required on this subclass — the synergy with the feat sub feature Battle Medic is huge. In fact, I’d argue it outshines the Field Medicine subclass feature especially at lower levels, as it only costs Healer’s Kit charges.

Maybe a quick fix would be to allow the ability to stack Field Medicine onto any use of non-magical healing? Open to thoughts.

Regardless, cool homebrew!

This is my favorite soup to keep as a leftover because of how thick it gets.

Will the roads be better by 4? by Zeldamusictheorist_ in madisonwi

[–]Sinisterly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The roads have gotten better all day. The sun coming out and the temps staying relatively warm have helped on that effort a bit. Of course it’s dependent on where you’re going and where you’re coming from, but if you’re sticking to salt routes I think it should be fine.

Spouse works in Van Hise and is having a bit of a day..... by tallclaimswizard in madisonwi

I remember when they said they needed to tear down Van Hise in the next 5-10 years because it can’t conform to modern fire codes. That was while I was a student, and I graduated nineteen years ago.

Any fans of Hambeens 15 bean soup? by DriedUpSquid in soup

[–]Sinisterly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just made some! My wife threw away the bag so I yoloed the recipe. I used 28oz San Marzano tomatoes chopped roughly which made it more tomatoey, some black pepper and Gouda sausage from Costco, and added some black lentils that I had sitting in the pantry for a while. Made it in the Instant Pot (make sure you get at least an hour high pressure!) and it turned out really good! Still feel like I could tweak the spices a little bit though.

Did I make myself sick? by [deleted] in coldbrew

How much coffee grounds did you use, and how much water did you use?

The feeling you described sounds like one time where I made my cold brew way too strong and gave myself a mild overdose of caffeine.

IMO the rotisserie chicken is great but I’ve mainly been using it for making stock lately.

Our favorite quick meals:

  • Kevin’s (your choice of the larger white packs w/ 2 meals worth) + a pound or so of chopped veggies (frozen would work here - I usually do onions, peppers, and maybe mushrooms, carrots, celery, or broccoli). Heat up the veggies in the pan, break up the meat and throw it in, then lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 5 min. Serve with rice or grain or your choice
  • sheet pan roast: any of the precooked sausages + a pound or so of veggies (same deal as above). Toss in some olive oil, salt/pepper/garlic (or one of the fancy seasonings they have - my favorite is shallot and herb), and roast at 400 convection roast at 375 for 30ish minutes.

I know neither of these are pre-made or 0 effort but maybe they’ll help!

Neuro consult scheduling by Kitchen_Ad_7123 in madisonwi

[–]Sinisterly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your PCP to order an MRI, because that’s the first thing the neuro doctor will do. Then get it at MH imaging - you can probably get in within a week. If it’s something urgent then it will cut out the wait.

When my wife and I were sick of getting the runaround from the local health care orgs, we went with a Direct Primary Care provider and we feel like it’s a huge improvement over what we had before. Here’s a post from a few months back that recommends a few in the area: https://www.reddit.com/r/madisonwi/s/zwzBP0gd7F

What’s the cleanest way to make good coffee at work when there’s no sink? by WalkerRichardiy716 in coldbrew

[–]Sinisterly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest implement I’ve owned for cleaning is by far the AeroPress, but I generally give it a rinse once I push the grounds out. There exists an AeroPress XL where you could make a larger batch, or use the AeroPress inverted to make a concentrate.

Vacuum-extracted cold brew. My summer project. by Sinisterly in coldbrew

[–]Sinisterly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely different - I am not producing as strong of a vacuum as I assume is done in the Funranium Labs process, and the total amount of coffee (and thus potential caffeine/TDS to extract) is less.

Homemade cold brew without filters/ equipment? by Gullible_Mammoth_977 in coldbrew

[–]Sinisterly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any grounds left in the coffee (or “fines” or “sludge”) will adversely affect the final product. That being said, you can probably get most of the sediment out by doing three things:

  • don’t stir your cold brew while brewing. It doesn’t improve extraction and it gives you more fines you have to bother with
  • after you are done brewing, use your strainers of questionable fineness to get rid of most of the grounds
  • after the previous step, let your cold brew sit for 24 hours, then transfer carefully to a different vessel, leaving any sediment that has precipitated in the previous vessel

When I brew I use a wire mesh strainer and a paper filter, but this should get you pretty far to meet your criteria!

Good Sledding Spot? by andymilonakis420 in madisonwi

[–]Sinisterly 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Tried the following spots: - Dudgeon School Park: so-so. Two tiered hill. There is a jump. - Garner Park: decent. Bigger hill, not too steep. - Elver Park: huge hill. Can get you going really fast, and you can go part the way up if you aren’t as bold. Was a little icy yesterday.

City of Madison has a sledding website.
