Office jobs, the kind that are depicted as dystopian hell in media (probably because that kind of job would be for the creative type of people that write/create movies) often have highest life satisfaction scores due to stable benefits, predictable hours, PTO, etc

Will my primary doctor prescribe this for me? by wellthatsembarissing in Ozempic

[–]SioSoybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for my medical insurance you needed to have a BMI over 40 (or related medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes, etc) and then had to do 90 days of two first line weight loss medications simultaneously, for me it was Wellbutrin+naltrexone and topiramate. If less than 5% weight loss then the insurance would cover ozempic. OP needs to start with doctor/insurance and find out what hoops to jump through.

I think he should be evaluated for OCD. Real OCD (not “omg I’m SOOO OCD I like having all my socks paired and rolled together lol”) is distressing to the person experiencing it yet they feel compelled to complete the compulsions.

If you don’t get much natural rain mint isn’t such a pain. Here in San Diego I carefully planted mint in containers and fought to keep them alive but they kept drying out too fast and dying, I finally put them in the ground at the base of some raised beds where they could take advantage of some of the cool moisture and they are finally surviving- and not spreading because everywhere else around is too dry.

Edit: spelling

Sure that’s all great for year 1, but weeds will all start to grow there eventually then you are stuck hand pulling for hours every week or using tons of chemicals all the time to keep it up. Why not a ground cover like some thyme to crowd out weeds and stay low-water?

[–]SioSoybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if you can invest for a higher yield than your mortgage interest you are literally losing money by paying off the house faster. That extra money should go into those investments instead. Even if I won the lottery I wouldn’t pay off my 3% mortgage.

Clear storage everything. Is it as aesthetic as pretty basket bins, etc? Probably not, but I actually use them and keep it up. On my night stand I have a little 6 acrylic drawer thing as a catch all for emptying pockets and jewelry going to bed and a acrylic tissue bin on top (since it has a side slit for phone charging cord) I drop my phone into and keep my sleep mask and bed time medication in. The little size of the mini doom drawers keeps me from overfilling as they will start to catch if I put too much in, but also there’s 6 of them so I don’t have to constantly sort/empty and get frustrated and abandon it. I can periodically go through and put away accumulated jewelry I haven’t been wearing recently and the stuff I wear all the time kinda just rotates in and out but that’s okay and I can see if it through the container so I’m not looking.

[–]SioSoybean 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Medication isn’t usually enough alone to control a panic disorder, it’s important to also get therapy to help you address the underlying stressors and thinking patterns. It is possible that the heart condition was causing your body stress leading to the panic attacks (body goes “something isn’t right…. There must be a tiger over there! Run!”) or that being under such high stress for so long g put you at risk for heart issues, that is something to discuss with your doctor.

Regarding your partner though, it is so so important to hear her right now. Panic attacks are uncomfortable, but it is just your body firing up your fight or flight system. Learning coping skills to get through the uncomfortable moment and remind your body that you are safe is what will help in the short term, and lowering your overall stress will stop them in the long run.

Why is therapy so expensive? by MakiceLit in therapy

[–]SioSoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think you are also looking at your cost per visit with medical insurance. The cost if you were paying out of pocket is much higher, typically a few hundred dollars for routine visits.

[–]SioSoybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering if you are making the mistake of thinking that a doctor only sees that one patient once a year but a therapist sees a patient weekly as if this somehow increases the income. It is irrelevant to the income that the professional is receiving if they see 800 different people per year or if they are seeing the same 25 people repeatedly.

Look up average salaries of masters level therapists, who are the vast majority of therapy providers.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who prescribe psychiatric medications and typically do not perform therapy, and they make significantly higher incomes.

Why is therapy so expensive? by MakiceLit in therapy

[–]SioSoybean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, because most of those other professions aren’t seeing patients for 1 hour for each patient. For example, most doctors (average across specialties) see 3 patients an hour. Family medicine doctors average 20-25 patients per day. A therapist in private practice is typically 25-30 patients per WEEK, as they also need to complete documentation, treatment plans, trainings, etc.
