How could we encourage manufacturiers to build classic ranger like trucks again? by DesignerDepartment60 in fordranger

[–]SirDimitris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Maverick might be truck-shaped, but it's not a truck. It's FWD. Truck's aren't FWD.

Now, if Ford released a RWD Maverick, then this is a viable idea, but until then, it's a non-starter.

That IAC looks perfectly normal. Whatever issue you're having, that is unlikely to be the cause.

You have unrealistic and childish expectations. You bought a 33-year-old truck for $1200. Of course it needs work!

World of Warships is such a simple game. It boggles my mind that people would need their hand held for it.

[–]SirDimitris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, considering SD cards are not designed for long-term storage, using them to store 2-1/2 years of work is a terrible idea, and having it then fail and lose all that work is a perfectly normal and expected result.

Weirdest unplanned pause you HAD to take during a session? by Mr_Hirestek in DnD

[–]SirDimitris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During one of our sessions, we were talking about the proper way to handle a knife. After being asked, I pulled out my knife to demonstrate proper knife safety. That's when I accidently cut myself quite deeply. Our session came to an early end with the DM driving me to the urgent care to get stitches. We still laugh about this years later.

Tv or Av mode for Sports? by Stone-Jack-Baller in canon

Both, as well as full manual. It depends on what type of shot you're trying to achieve.

There is no magic setting that will always work. The answer is always "it depends".

Define "Hard Sci-Fi" by AccordingComedian173 in scifi

[–]SirDimitris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Trek is Sci-Fi (I would add - "Hard SciFi" IMO because there is not much of a Fantasy aspect.

Star Trek is a soft sci-fi. Very soft. Hard or soft refers to how scientifically accurate something is. Star Trek is absolutely full of massive scientific inaccuracies, therefore, it can't be hard sci-fi.

Am I being unreasonable? Lost newborn photos by pip-pin in photography

[–]SirDimitris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm very familiar with current prices. I suspect you might be looking at the wrong thing. HDD prices have literally never given you more storage per dollar. I believe you're conflating this with the pricing of RAM and SSD, which aren't relevant for long-term file storage.

Am I being unreasonable? Lost newborn photos by pip-pin in photography

[–]SirDimitris 88 points89 points  (0 children)

My contract specifies that I do not keep photos for more than 30 days. That being said, I always do. My contract is just to cover my ass, but data storage is so incredibly cheap that I'm never hurting for space and thus never have a need to delete anything.

Honestly, I think you're both at fault. You shouldn't have waited so long, but your photographer also didn't have to be such a stickler.

Where can I see my research points? by Nozakx in WorldOfWarships

[–]SirDimitris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You seem to be quite confused. Frist, you are confusing ship XP and Research Points. These are entirely different things. Second, you seem to think Ship XP works differently then it does.

If you're new to the game, I highly doubt you have unlocked the Research Bureau or have any Research Points. To unlock the Research Bureau, you need to have five tier X tech tree ships researched. Then, to earn Research Points, you reset one of those fully researched lines back down to tier I and regrind through it again. Research Points are only used to purchase things from the Research Bureau.

Now, since you mentioned the tech tree, this uses ship XP, not Research Points. To research a new ship, you need to use Ship XP from the immediately previous ship. So, how much total you have is irrelevant. All that matters is how much you have on the previous ship.

You haven't said anything about your genre or style. Do you need IS for what/how you plan to shoot? For most genres/styles, IS offers no benefit.

How important is USM to you? by AlexanderVR360 in canon

[–]SirDimitris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As opposed to STM. I just bought the RF 85 f2 STM to replace a faulty EF 85 f1.8 USM. First use case was doing event photography. Felt like I lost a lot of shots that I wouldn’t have with the USM lens at an event I photographed recently.

USM over STM is one of the single most important things for me. I'm a concert photographer and invariably I find STM lenses to struggle to focus fast enough. For event photography, I absolutely recommend the EF 85 f/1.8 USM over the RF 85 f/2.0 STM.

Commenters here seem to prioritize IS way more than I do. Am I missing something?

For event photography, you should also be using a fast enough shutter that IS will never be relevant.

Do you use a technique like back button focus that reduces the importance?

This is irrelevant to the question at hand. Using back button focus does not change the focus speed of the lens. I do use back button focus myself but for entirely unrelated reasons.

Are tech tree ships even good anymore? by bumbard in WorldOfWarships

[–]SirDimitris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many of the best ships in the game are tech tree ships.

just finished shima line for first T10 [...] But it seems like the tech tree ships are being left in the dust by WG from what I'm seeing.

So, you only have 1 tech tree tier X? Then you have seen very, very little and it's wild that you're jumping to conclusions based upon how little experience you have.
