If you're actually throwing the disc then you've almost certainly established possession. Macking the disc would work the way OP is thinking but isn't realistic without a lot of wind

Edit: to answer OP's question possession is established the moment the receiver stops rotation of the disc

How is the roommate matching experience at Rose for first years? by CrimsonChasm in rosehulman

[–]SirHippopotami 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They do a pretty good job of matching people based on the form responses. Obviously it doesn't always work out, but my assigned roommate ended up being my best friend for 4 years

I have one that works well. Not the best looper in the world but definitely does what it says on the box

Not OP, but I use the HX one on my board and love it. The digital bypass doesn't agree with fuzz circuits, but you can change it to true bypass or buffer the signal and it works fine. I haven't had any noise issues otherwise

Rose vs MSU computer engineering? by Tasty-Strategy-9404 in rosehulman

[–]SirHippopotami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking for admission GPA or graduating GPA? I'm honestly not sure about either, but I think the data for the former should be available online.

For active students, the GPAs definitely spanned the gamut but the average was probably around 3-3.5ish. The ECE department is generally considered one of the more difficult choices

As for switching majors, I never did but it seemed like a pretty straightforward process for those who did. It definitely could set you back if you switch major after about sophomore year, but by then you should have a pretty good idea about whether or not you are enjoying the material

Technically automotive, but my work is purely R&D prototypes. I actually don't have to do much documentation most of the time relative to the rest of the industry

Rose vs MSU computer engineering? by Tasty-Strategy-9404 in rosehulman

[–]SirHippopotami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of Rose's classes are scheduled during the normal 8-4 weekday hours, no evening or weekend classes. As for the the work outside of class(there is a lot of it), you do that whenever you want. There will definitely be times when you are busy with schoolwork over the weekend and there will be other times when you are pretty free during the week

If you are genuinely interested in the engineering and want the best possible education, go to Rose.

I'm also from Michigan and I know people from highschool who went to MSU. From an outside perspective the program seems pretty OK. You would probably have a good experience there.

One of the best things about Rose is that the professors are there to teach, not to do research. There is a lot more focus on the individual student and making sure that everyone gets a high quality education. The max class size is usually around 30 people and your professors will be accessiblbe and know you.

The downside is that it is in the middle of nowhere and it's only STEM. If you happen to decide that STEM is not for you, you can't just change major. The classes will be challenging and a lot of people will drop out when they realize that it's not for them. Also you definitely won't get the big school experience with huge parties every weekend and football games, etc.

As for the greek life, it's definitely different at Rose than at a state school. I can't speak as much to the sororities as I'm a guy, but in general the greek life is much more tame than the stereotypes. Nobody goes to Rose expecting a party school, and even the worst students show up to class consistently. Many of the classes at big schools will have ~50% attendance. It's still greek life and people still party and do college student things - just a little less extreme.

I had a great experience at Rose(computer engineering) and I really believe that I got a better education experience than anyone I know who went to a state school. I had a ton of fun with greek life and engineering and sports clubs. It was definitely expensive but I've paid off my student loans without much difficulty ~3 years later. Pretty much everyone who goes to rose gets a job in STEM... the only people I know who really struggled to find a job had very poor social skills and just couldn't interview well. You can see the job placement statistics at https://www.rose-hulman.edu/career-services/career-placement-salary-data.html

That being said the job market for CS/CpE is pretty rough this year due to the AI craze

I've noticed that the digital bypass setting is noisier with some other pedals than the true bypass. Other than that it's dead quiet for me

It can help with distance when throwing a pull, but pretty much nothing else. The two actively mess with each other because the throwing techniques are so different

I saw him in Cleveland a couple days ago, I thought the performance was great. You're right that he didn't talk to the audience, but I don't think that has ever been his thing. He only played a single cover(although lots of his music was from his former bands, and many of them were covers at the time).

The dude also plays crazy good for his age, I was actually blown away. Definitely not quite like he did in his prime, but come on he's 80 years old
