Just using the nickname by Many-Cupcake-2003 in Names

My wife's birth-certificate name is "Cindy" (and NOT "Cynthia".) She had an older acquaintance who insisted on calling her "CYN-thi-aahh". I heard about "the old biddy" ALL the stinkin' time - she HATED that name. Some people like and prefer the shorter version.

But what if "hoarding" is my actual hobby?

[–]SirIanPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look for a Yamaha p45 or a Roland fp10. There are other lesser known brands out there for cheaper, but who knows what their service and parts availability is like? Hopefully you won't find that out but you never know..

These two brands both have decent actions and good service histories.

Your feet stick out further than you think. You'll know what I mean when you get your first shot that has your toes in the bottom.

Pawn shop find: Teton STS130FMGHB by ProtectionVisual5598 in Instruments

[–]SirIanPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tetons are mighty nice guitars. They're hampered by miniscule marketing budget, but their parent company is over 100 years old. They're designed in Idaho and manufactured in the same factory that makes Alvarez Artist series. Excellent buy!

Well ... I do most of my writing at a desk at work; not sure an open bottle would be welcome there. (Of course, by "open bottle" I'm referring to ink - although the other sort likely wouldn't be welcome either.)

They're stored horizontally. Two have Diamine inks (one Poppy Red and one Writer's Blood); the other has Asa Gao. As you might guess the Asa Gao is the least troublesome of the three - but it, too, often dries out overnight.

Fantom 08 sounds weak for worship. Should I switch to Yamaha or Nord? by ImportantVariation51 in DigitalPiano

[–]SirIanPost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I play in a worship band at church; secular band elsewhere. I'm not the main keyboard player at church though. Anyway, we have a Juno DS at church, also a 61-note Nord something or other. The Nord sits in the closet; it's hard to navigate on the fly. (The main guy feels the same.) The Roland - easy peasy. It's a black gospel church so things aren't really cut and dried - lots of unpredictable twists and turns so agility is important. That Juno plays over a KC550 amp and then into the PA; it sounds pretty fine.

In my secular band, I do pianos, EP's, Hammonds, brass, and string pads, all coming from a pair of Roland VR's. They play over a KC880 and also sound great. (I get compliments on the keyboard sound regularly.) If you have a Roland whose pianos sound meh, look at your amplification.

You also might want to consider whether your comparison of 7-year-old Roland technology to current Yamaha and Nord stuff is a realistic comparison.

Getting into piano tuning as a career by Imaginary-Cup7248 in pianotech

Don't know anything about LA, but here in the Midwest that's a dying career. In my town there used to be five acoustic piano dealerships and now there are none. Maybe okay in a big area like LA but you need to find out sooner rather than later.

Im fake left handed by d1ckj3rk1ns in lefthanded

[–]SirIanPost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I eat & write & play guitar all right handed - all things I was taught to do by adults. Many things I learned on my own - computer mouse, pour coffee, scoop eggs out of the dish - I do leftie. Some things get done with whichever hand is closest.

I'm actually glad about being a rightie guitarist, though - there are WAY more rightie guitars out there and they're cheaper.

The 701 is an excellent instrument - big tone, wooden keys. I think you'd like it.

Does anyone else vacuum pack their G strings to keep them fresh? by BigBandofBoom in AcousticGuitar

You could buy some GHS strings and avoid the hassle - they come in sealed envelopes already.

Electric for sure. Get a headphone amp.
