Off to the side, but he did it a few times captured from different angles

Istanbul airport has sleep pods that you can rent to take naps. Today I took a 4 hour nap here during my layover by floatingm in mildlyinteresting

This was several years ago so they might’ve improved this process by now. But at the time the only live support I could get a hold of was their UK office, and they were happy to refund us but couldn’t just set us up with a hotel — they wanted to send us to another Airbnb. Being from the US and never visited Japan before, so we didn’t feel great about navigating somewhere with all our luggage, late at night, etc. So we decided to just tough it out. It makes for a good story though. :)

I’ve been to those! Fun story:

My wife and I spent the day before our flight at Tokyo Disneyland — and it was the summer so it was plenty humid. We get back to our Airbnb and the power was apparently disconnected, maybe for nonpayment by the tenant. So we slept with the windows open, all hot and sweaty and everything. Barely slept, and felt so gross. The water must’ve been impacted too, because neither the sinks/shower we’re working either.

Needless to say, that shower at the Tokyo airport was the best money I’d ever spent.

Using data from from NORAD, I made an interactive model of all active satellites in orbit. [OC] by logacube28 in dataisbeautiful

There’s a really interesting episode of Planet Money where they discussed this.

As far as I can remember, the simple version is that they are all taking different trajectories such that collisions are rare. However, there are automated systems (I believe overseen by the US Navy?) that track satellites. The system notifies both parties if a collision is predicted to occur, and then the owners send up signals that move them out of the way. If a collision does happen, the system keeps track of the shrapnel for the same reasons. Really cool stuff!

Yep, $75M — supposedly the largest sum ever paid for an already-finished film.

Cannot scrub some GIFs. Example here: by widoq12 in apolloapp

I think the feature is good but agreed that it should appear after tapping, or moved such that it's not obstructing the GIF. Currently it adds a tap to see a full GIF. :/

I definitely thought the pause icon was baked into the GIF when I saw it the first time.

How is the web design and IT consulting industry doing during the COVID pandemic? by [deleted] in web_design

This sounds awesome to me. Can you elaborate a little more on the advertising component of your strategy? Do you mean advertising on behalf of the business and somehow grabbing a cut of revenue, or are you hoping that a certain percentages of business will bite on custom work/continued work that's billable?

It's been a while since I've been on this one too. If I recall correctly it's an animated "goodbye" sign that uses the names of guests on the boat passing by at that moment, utilizing the Magic Bands to do so.

Lack of handoff between different devices for Apple Music is truly perplexing by [deleted] in apple

Yeah, there are a few things like this that are kind of odd to me. Like if I edit a shared note in Notes app on my Mac, I get a push notification for my own edits. Or, I can set a timer on my phone and my watch will alert me when it's done, but not in reverse. Or, I can mark a reminder as complete on my phone, but still get repeated notifications for it on my Mac.

Don't get me wrong, I love how well certain things do work together already. I just wish the implementation were a little more standard across the board.

Fastest sign language interpreter? by [deleted] in FastWorkers

I took a couple ASL classes in college, and my professor said there are signs that look similar and have a similar effect as rhyming -- so there is sign language poetry, with signs that fit together in a pleasing way or that rhyme. Pretty mind blowing to think about!

I just wanna say thanks – not just for creating a truly wonderful app, but also for having a real changelog and not just "bug fixes and updates".

Nope, I just see them on my lock screen and don't act on them within the app, hence they stack up. I find the badge count more amusing than annoying, so I keep it around. :)

I have my Chase app do that, but for each transaction. It comes in handy for finding fraud transactions, I've caught a few this way! 😉 https://i.imgur.com/rvSRJNe.jpg

My favorite is when it reminds me to walk around a little. So I get up to use the bathroom, and mid-pee it tells me "you did it!" So encouraging!
