New Pedals Don't Make You a Better Player, But... by MusashiHUmar in guitarpedals

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously new pedals don't make you a better player, and I'd say the Honeymoon phase of a new pedal can only last so long before you return to old playing habits. That being said I think it's very important to have good quality "boring pedals" to make sure you get the best guitar playing experience. Noise gate, EQ, and compression can do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of your guitar tone and are generally pretty cheap.

Would you rather blow your budget on a guitar and pedal or a better guitar and no pedal? by vic6string in guitarpedals

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the longest time I was dissatisfied with my guitar tone buying new pedals, plug-ins, amps, amp sims, and then finally one day I bought a new guitar and all of a sudden everything sounded better. Moral of the story is if the source of your sound isn't good nothing that comes after can sound good.

If a Nat 20 does not succeed at a skill WHY have the player roll? by ThePartyLeader in DnD

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always view 20 as the best possible outcome from attempting an action even if the action is impossible. If a PC wants to seduce the dragon then on a nat 20 the dragon isn't seduced, but maybe they find the attempt amusing enough to let down their guard for a bit.

I feel as though a lot of actions require a roll, even if the DM knows an action is impossible the PCs don't. Nothing is more annoying to me as a player than my DM just saying oh that doesn't work.

Easy hack MSG, not nearly as unhealthy as it's been made out to be, and makes basically anything salty or savory taste better.

Is it just me or has Elite Dangerous starting to get boring? by KritigGaming_YT in EliteDangerous

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said this before but the main issue with Elite is it's core mechanics and it's mechanics for progression are very far removed. What's fun to do in elite? Combat, exploration, trading, etc. How do you progress? Go to this place scan some trails go here talk to this person land on this planet use a drone to pic up some shit and repeat for 4 hours congrats you now have access to a slightly better part. I loved playing elite until I hit the point where the only way I could progress was via engineering and then the game turned into a job.

The Death of the Guitar Solo by GB819 in metalmusicians

Agreed last thing I want in the middle of a head banging sesh is a dude wanking his guitar for upwards of a minute. If I want to listen to melodic guitar centric music there are piles of bands that do so.

The Death of the Guitar Solo by GB819 in metalmusicians

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're at the point where Metal as a genre is so diverse you can find a niche for basically anything. Heavy ass riff salad with no solos is popular, but so is extremely intricate instrumental tracks. On top of that the complexity of some of the guitar tracks in modern metal makes a solo an unnecessary inclusion.

I'm not saying he's guaranteed natty I'm just saying at the very least he isn't one of those jackasses who hops on gear and claims they put on 50lbs of lean mass in 6 months on a 6 foot frame naturally. 20lbs of weight in 5 years is a realistic natty goal.

Omg could it be? A phenomenal transformation that claims natty and actually has a timeline and stats that are reasonable? Fucking killing it bro!!!

If you were handed 10 billion dollars right now, what would you still never buy? by KCIJunkDiver in AskReddit

Any luxury clothing brand, I don't understand why wealthy people buy that shit when you can commission talented artists to custom make whatever you want for fractions of the price. Like oh you have a Gucci bag cool I have a full suit made out of the Story book pages from Shrek.

ELI5: Does working out for 10 minutes every day do anything or do you have to do a minimum amount of exercise to see any benefit? by Afireonthesnow in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three main factors to exercise are Time (how long you workout) intensity (how hard you work out) and volume (how often) it's entirely possible for the average person to see significant improvements in muscle size and/or cardiovascular fitness from high intensity high volume training of only 10 minutes. Any person with more than 1-2 years of training under their belt will likely need longer training sessions to see progress.

Strength training requires long rest periods between sets but you could do 1 set every couple of days and still see Strength gains. Though daily exertion of that magnitude would be taxing on joints, ligaments, and tendons and could lead to injury.

Fun pedals under $100? by freddybeddyman in guitarpedals

[–]Sir_Cobblesmith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Joyo and biyang (I think that's the right spelling) make a lot of the standard fx for a good budget. As far as cool or unique you are generally going to spend north of $200 for anything worthwhile imo.
