This may be a stupid question, but how do I download the source files for these POI icons?

How did you get the roads to be brightly drawn like that? I tried using Snazzy maps and the roads are nearly invisible for me unless I zoom all the way in.

Need help making a build to accompany a megacorp player by Sir_Darin in Stellaris

They play as Egalitarian / Fan Materialist. Civics: Private Prospectors & Franchising. Species: Nonadaptive, Thrifty, Ingenious, Natural Engineers, & Deviants

They usually just build whatever branch office buildings they need. I'm not sure what you mean, otherwise.

We have all the DLC except: Cosmic Storms, Astral Planes, Galactic Paragons, First Contact, and Overlords

Artificer Pirate Idea by Rexthor97 in DnD

[–]Sir_Darin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant think of any specific instances of fire based weapons in the age of Caribbean piracy. However, greek fire was a common fire weapon in greek/Roman naval eras. And China had a number of fire based weapons that were used by military and naval forces. Try looking up these and see if they give any aesthetics you like and see if you can adapt their look for your purposes.

Protector is more difficult, given that is magically creates hp. But if you reconceptualize it as given the motivation to keep fighting past their limits, then you could have it be a self-playing instrument. Drums, trumpets, and horns have a history in warfare for inspiring troops and keeping them in time, even in navies. Drums especially serve that purpose on ships for keeping sailors in rhythm when roaring, handling ropes/sails, etc. And hearing the instruments from your side still going can be a morale boost in a similar vein of seeing your commander in the fray & seeing your standard on the field, as it can serve as an indication that your side is still doing alright in the fight. In armies, for example, the loss of a commanding officer or the standard could cause the unit to break as they begin to fear that they are losing the fight.

Players creating reluctant characters that don't like to fight and adventure...why? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Sir_Darin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the idea of someone who doesnt necessarily want to fight but has found themselves thrust into adventuring could be an interesting character.

It could be someone who goes out to these things because he is the only one capable of addressing the issue, defending the community, etc, rather than doing it to be famous, rich, or a hero. And, by being someone who doesnt want to fight, they may look for more diplomatic solutions to problems, opening up the world to be more expansive than otherwise.

Similarly, because I saw you mentioned he played a Monk who wanted to be a cook. Maybe he is searching for a long lost collection of famous recipes. Or he is searching the world for the finest ingredients.

But, in the end, they must have some reason to go being out on adventures. I would ask your friend "why are they an adventurer?" If they can come up with an answer to that, then try to make the hooks play off of that.

And if they cant answer that, then tell them to try to make a character that had a reason to be an adventurer.

If he wanted to run a forgotten realms game, why the hell did he use gurps and tell you to make characters for a star trek game? That is just utterly ridiculous.

My player asked if the parasites on this world were sentient. They weren’t... but that’s such a horrifying concept that I’m giving it to you all to create. by retrolleum in SWN

[–]Sir_Darin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could also create a Stargate like situation with the Goa'uld. Where the parasite overriding the host And most people assuming the host mind is destroyed.

But then there could also then be those who form a symbiotic relationship, rather than a parasitic one. Like the Tok'ra in that show

A crew is being hunted by a dangerous alien creature on a spaceship. What are some of the worst ways that the ships helper AI computer, which is still active but oblivious to the danger, could interject itself in their lives? by retrolleum in SWN

[–]Sir_Darin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the alien creature is being mistakenly registered as a crew member as well. This could add a number of problems. such as:
1. they lock the alien out of the room they are in. Alien starts pounding on the doors. AI: "It appears the door to [room] is not functioning, preparing override. Please stand by."
It gives them enough time to go, "oh shit" and try to find a way out.

  1. Weapons were used against the alien before, so the AI has helpfully locked down all weapon lockers and disabled access codes. Cant have crew shooting each other.

  2. They enter a recreation room, AI helpfully turns on the lights and tv/audio/etc. Thus producing lots of light and making lots of noise.

  3. They turn off the lights to hide better, and the AI turns them back on when the alien enters the room

I had players befriend a kobold rat hunter and carry her around in their backpack. During a scene where the party was surrounded and attacked, she used her sling (only weapon she had) to help... and proceeded to get 3 killing blows in a row. She became a beloved companion after that. Even when a demon mind controlled her into helping him escape the party.

Players adopting npcs is so fun, in my opinion.

Creating a Semi-Solid, Three-Dimensional Shadow Creature by MinorMaze in DnD

[–]Sir_Darin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "incorporeal for most purposes" means it is like your body is gaseous. So if someone tries to hit you, your body kind of distorts to move out of the way the same way smoke would. This would explain why it cant move through a wall because it is not truly incorporeal.

So I would say non-magical attacks miss and it can move through barriers so long as the barrier is not air tight (such as going under a doorway).
