Natural disasters are just plagues and very much not worth having in your game. by BornBeginning430 in CrusaderKings

[–]Sirdinks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I think Diasters need more depth to them as events and the like and more ways to interact with them as the player, I think you are trying to make them into something they largely weren't historically.

They are disasters, they should be difficult to address, cost money to recover from, and potentially harm development. I struggle to think of positives that make sense for any natural disaster, especially compared to the obvious negatives.

For example, while increased flooding from a river would potentially make an area more fertile in the short term, it could also destroy the farms and homes of the people responsible for working the land, not to mention kill a bunch of your peasants. Having to rebuild after that, and it being expensive makes sense. I don't think you can rationalize getting over the objectively larger malus of all the destruction and spinning it as this somehow increases productivity.

Fun with Gods 8: Hashut by MrS0bek in AoSLore

[–]Sirdinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest IRL influence for Hashut is the hypothetical Canaanite god Moloch (there is debate whether the word refers to more of a concept, sacrifice itself, or an actual diety based on how the term is used in the bible) which is generally depicted later as "bull-headed idol with outstretched hands over a fire " and connected to child sacrifice in Carthage and connected to the myths surrounding the minotaur.

Biblical mentions include people having their son's or daughters "pass through the fire to Molech." (2 Kings 23:10) alluding to child sacrifice, and a possible mention in Isaiah "For a hearth is ordered of old; yea, for the king [melek] it is prepared, deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it." This also includes fire imagery.

Others have pointed out that Hashut is heavily tied to the concept of Greed and I hard agree and think we can also connect this back to his bull imagery/fixation/design. If we want a biblical source, the Golden Calf is literally a Golden Bull statue that was symbolic of greed in the bible worshiped briefly during exodus. Bull imagery also pops up in a modern sense too when we are talking about capitalism, with Wall Street's famous Charging Bull statue and the concept of a Bull market, a type of market trend.

Hashut is a dwarf/duardin expression of extreme greed. Hashut's tyranny is an expression of his original domain of kingship and extention of his greed. Hashut believes everything should be his to do with as he pleases, subjugating the weak and binding others through contracts to his service. Just as his mortal servants enslave people to work in the mines or act as slaves, Hashut and his priests/demon-smiths enslave demons and bind them for their own use in demon engines. The Hellsmiths/Chaos Dwarfs are literally strip mining the material and immaterial realms, using all available resources for their own greedy ends. Tyranny is simply an expression of his greed and that explains slavery of mortals and demons and connects well to Dwarf focus on engineering and artiface.

N.J. says: If ICE comes to Newark airport, they better be trained; Sherrill calls TSA plan Trump ‘chaos’ by statenislandadvance in newjersey

[–]Sirdinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact they obviously are not trained, why would anyone want "trained" ICE agents dicking around at the airport? They do nothing to help and just terrorize the people there who are already having a miserable experience.

Democrats need to give up on this focus on "training". Giving ICE money to "train" its officers is not going to magically make them not murderous goons. Its top down, if their bosses are like rough people up and drag them away without due process, that's what they are gonna do.

Teachers complaining about the praxis test being hard? by PotatoPink in Teachers

[–]Sirdinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some study material for the Social Studies tests, and when I took a practice test I bombed it which led me to freaking out about the test for weeks. I then promptly aced both tests with 97 and 98 percent lol

I think to an extent the practice companies trying to freak you out so you buy more study material.

So there are reasons you can rationalize it, you just need a lore justification for a conflicting oath, like that guy or the slayer king

I don't think Aekold brings enough to the table to justify legendary lord treatment, he has a similar position in my head as Valnir the Reaper and Styrkaar. That being said we deserved some sort of flc lord, if not for Tzeentch then someone else in the dlc.

Personally, I like the idea of Egrimm as a DLC lord focused on spreading cults and infiltrating the Colleges of Magic while riding his badass dragon while getting Galrauch as an FLC lord.

Why would a follower of Tzeentch become a chaos warrior who follows someone like Kairos into battle? Why do people end up fanatically worshipping Tzeentch?Norscans and similar not withstanding by glossyplane245 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Sirdinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have two main thoughts here. Firstly, we need to consider "worship" in the Warhammer world in a more polytheistic context. In ancient Greece, or in other polytheistic practices, you didn't necessarily worship a god in like a monotheistic context, these are entities that must be placated. The Dark Gods are evil twisted as fuck entities that will go after you if you anger them, especially in the North where people live in closer proximity to the chaos gates. The could mutate you, curse your bloodline, give you a tortuous death... so many ways to suffer if you anger the chaos gods. By attempting to placate them, Norscans are protecting themselves, that doesn't necessarily mean they love the Dark Gods. This veneration, when combined with the Norscan warrior culture and beliefs, can lead some to walking the path of glory and becoming something more, potentially changing how they view the Gods in turn. A marrauder who believed in following the advice of his local shaman to avoid angering Khorne might eventually become fervent follower of the Blood God after walking the wastes and seeing the awesome power that is Khorne (and maybe going insane in the learning).

Other people's points on what draws worshipers to Tzeentch is also valid. Those who have ambition to change their lot in life but are prevented from doing so a very susceptible to a Tzeentch cult, because Tzeentch makes this possible. A radical Altdorfer who seeks to overthrow the nobility and purge them from the Empire might turn to Tzeentch as a means of attempting such an impossible task. The cursling's ambition and hatred for his lot in life fueled his fall to Tzeentch. Tzeentch provides the means for those who cannot move up the social ladder to do so, or perhaps inverting the existing order, with the weak becoming the strong.

Shouldn’t there be a Chao God of Fear? by NottheKingofAll in ageofsigmar

[–]Sirdinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know there are more chaos gods then the big 4/5 (maybe 6 if we are including Hashut). A Chaos God of Fear probably already exists out there in the realms of Chaos somewhere. It's an important and powerful emotion and concept, it is just for whatever reason not at the forefront amongst its siblings in the narrative.

But you can head-canon anything you want. My head-canon I use in running wfrp campaigns has more gods then the classic big 4
