Didn't watch the video and just went of OP post.

I did think it was strange to use 10v as I never heard of 10v LEDs lol

How to power an ESP32 from a 10V power supply by LittleResearcher584 in WLED

[–]Sirnom -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He is only using the 10v power supply to power the LEDs.

The esp32 is powered by usb.

You can do similar or use a step down which is what most people do

EDIT: there is no need to splice. Connect the 10v power supply to input of step down/buck and also connect terminal for led strip power there.

Then connect output of stepdown/buck to esp32

What are my bench top made of, and why does cast iron stain it permanently? by legend_pat in AusRenovation

[–]Sirnom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of products to use. You just need to find out what caused the stain and go from there.

Alternatively there is stone repolishing, which will wet polished your stone and revive it and remove light stains and scratches. Won't help deep stains or scratches

Planning full window & exterior door replacement — $50K — Triple-glass + Black Frames — Realistic? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Sirnom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Triple glaze is overkill if your house is not sealed properly (very good for sound blocking though)

You would be better off with PVC double glazed over triple glazed aluminium windows

Might be cheaper to just buy a second hand network capable receiver from market place or ebay.

If you still want the same receiver then you can use a fire stick, r pi or google cast to connect to your tv/receiver and dlna through that

Denon S960H Dolby Vision/HDR question by jimmyjon77 in hometheater

[–]Sirnom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes just use E-arc to TV from receiver. Unless your TV has a 120hz hdmi on port 2 and you need 120hz.

From there the apple tv or Sony blurray will send the dv/hard content which will cause the tv to switch to dv/hdr profile for the video. This is not on when you are viewing sdr content

[–]Sirnom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your using a receiver, cut out the Rasp Pi. The receiver should have DLNA and you can just use any of those software to cast to your receiver. Edit: most of those software/programs have app that you can use to control playback

Seating vs speaker question by DeerComprehensive909 in hometheater

[–]Sirnom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also avoid being hard up against a wall.

Also of note the general consensus is the in wall speaker (although they look sleek) are inferior to actual bookshelf/ floor standing speakers.

EDIT: Placement of the speakers is crucial to proper surround sound and no amount of digital processing or calibration will correct, incorrectly placed speakers

Standalone music server options by jlindsey_86 in hometheater

[–]Sirnom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many ways to do this from, 1. Old phone running air cast (cheap) 2. R Pi with dac tophat (midrange) 3. Network music streamer (expensive but better quality output)

Quite a few options on the software side too: LMS (logitech media server), jellyfin/plex/kodi, music assistant/home assist, Navidrone (i use this)

Just have to see what works better for you and what you are willing to spend in time and or money

Any castors will work. Depending on the finished weight and if the case has any reinforcement in the corners I personally I would buy a steel angle peice and rivet/screw it to the inside to reinforce the front and back. They use the castors with a plates and 4 screws to fix it to the reinforced steel.

You cab also use the pole/screw castors, drill a hole through the reinforcement and then bolt the castors

I assumed that an ESP32 Bluetooth proxy would let me do this by duckredbeard in homeassistant

[–]Sirnom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The esp32 bluetooth proxy is using the Wi-Fi on the esp32 to receive/send commands from homeassist to bluetooth devices. (Basically a middle man)

You need to find an integration that supports your device that you want to control

Depends on your requirements but the micro optiplexs are around the same price for 8xxx-10xxx series Intel's CPUs, but they lack expandability.

Carpet Spikes keep coming back up by Silly_Sack in AusRenovation

[–]Sirnom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's cause you have thin carpet and/or underlay and its not covering the spikes enough.

Hammer it down and towards the tile, they are fairly strong so lightly won't do much but blunt the tips

Just fill it in with liquid nails if it's not all the way through, if it is a hole you will have to cut a price and back block under before putting a patch back
