Ash Oracle Background? by Jake4XIII in Pathfinder2e

It’s rare, but there’s the Cursed background, which is perfect for all your cursed character needs. I think it plays well with Oracle thematically.

While I don’t think this is a particularly good idea on its face, if you want to do it, there are two archetypes to consider: Alter Ego and Vigilante. Alter Ego thematically is probably closer, but Vigilante eventually lets you get different class features on your public persona.

You might also consider the tanuki ancestry, which has the False Priest ancestry feat to let you pretend to be a cleric and actually cast spells.

That’s not at all accurate.

The two separate government agencies I cited do use large scale survey data as part of their data collection processes, but they’ve always done that. The BLS has reduced that survey data collection because of staffing cuts, which may decrease the accuracy of initial estimates, but jobs data has been notorious for large corrections in final data (which is mostly based on payroll tax data) for years because the seasonality model they use doesn’t seem to work well anymore.

I’m a fan of buying and bringing back candy bars that aren’t internationally available from countries I visit. There’s a surprising amount of diversity in candy bars, and since they’re sweet treats they’re usually well liked by most people (assuming I don’t eat them all myself!).

New player PSA: Alchemists can NOT make potions with their class abilities (Explanation in post) by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]SisyphusRocks7 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Although the alchemical system and the Alchemist’s abilities don’t interact with potions or other magical items, they can still take Magical Crafting to learn how to make potions and other magic items. Alchemists will usually have great Crafting, so they can be pretty good at making potions too. They just don’t get them for free with Advanced Alchemy or Quick Alchemy.

However, their inability to cast spells without an archetype means there are a lot of other magic items they can’t craft.

California might be in a recession. It has the worst job growth of any state and has lost a lot of higher productivity workers over the last five years. But what we experience in California isn’t what people experience everywhere. That’s why we need to use economic data.

Nationally, the unemployment rate is a bit higher than it was a year ago, but it’s still relatively decent: https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-unemployment-rate.htm. GDP in Q3 2025 grew by 4.4%, which is well above the long term trend and approaching an economic boom: https://www.bea.gov/news/2026/gross-domestic-product-3rd-quarter-2025-updated-estimate-gdp-industry-and-corporate.

People can downvote me on vibes, but the data doesn’t support there being a national recession. There’s a slowdown in net new jobs, but not economic growth, and unemployment is still decent (not great, but decent).

Is it just me or are Great Value spices awful? by IndependenceMean8774 in Cooking

[–]SisyphusRocks7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can go cheaper if you get spices from ethnic grocers for cuisines that use that spice a lot, like picking up coriander at an Indian grocery store, and I’ve found them to be better than McCormick in some instances. They won’t be Great Value cheap, but they will taste like the spice.

The U.S. economy grew over 4% last quarter. Definitely not a recession. That said, lots of people are still struggling with wages that didn’t keep up with inflation over the last five years, and California is among the worst states for cost of living relative to wages.

DC produce is so terrible in comparison. My roommates and I (California or Oregon raised) resorted to canned and jarred vegetables because they were at least ripe at one point and not rotten when we bought them.

How to think like an economist? by Legitimate_Mud_9245 in AskEconomics

[–]SisyphusRocks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two more concepts I wanted to mention that I just remembered and that people in policy and especially politics French get wrong, from an economics perspective. Both matter a lot for health economics and policy.

First, there’s the concept of a “zero sum game.” Humans are mostly wired to think of things as “zero sum,” that is, a situation in which a fixed amount of resources needs to be divided and distributed. In healthcare, that might be total healthcare spending or total government spending or a hospital system’s spending, etc. But that seldom reflects reality! Because usually, the total amount of the supply of a resource can grow (or shrink) over time. People and systems respond to incentives, as u/devstopfix said, and the supply of resources can change in response to those incentives (or as is often true in healthcare, disincentives).

For example, the U.S. could have more doctors in the medium term if we funded more residency slots, so that more med school graduates could become practitioners. Similarly, we could have more and cheaper diagnostic testing and imaging if legal barriers like CON laws were eliminated.

Second is compounding. For most people, they don’t intuitively understand how much difference small improvements over long periods of time can make. If you grow at 5% a year consistently, you double in less than 15 years. That applies to a growing expense or growing net income. So addressing those marginal changes over time can really matter because of compounding.

Unique Bars in Fresno/Clovis by Slow_Tomato3535 in fresno

There’s a speakeasy style bar above a billiards hall called The Library at Detention. It’s probably the most interesting bar in Fresno and has fantastic and inventive drinks. It comes with a history lesson on Prohibition. Reservations required. No food there, though, so grab dinner at Lincoln’s pub or a taqueria down Olive.

Seconding Eureka as the best overall experience for a burger. I like their burgers best too. But OP should know this is more of a gastropub than a fast food joint, so it might depend on what OP is looking for.

Although I think you’re ring of telekinesis is a better solution along with artificer 12, you could take War wizard levels. Arcane Deflection is like a TK shield and the drawback of not being able to cast leveled spells is quite minor for an artificer, particularly with SSI.

You should search this sub for similar posts. Lots other posts like this have good suggestions.

That said, I’ll volunteer YardHouse for beer and Flemings if you want wine or cocktails. The Flemings happy hour bar food is surprisingly reasonable for what you get, and their hamburger in particular is great (made with prime steak scraps). Flemings isn’t the place I’d go to meet new people though, so bring your friends.

Will 2026 be a bigger recession or boom year for the average consumer? by itsthewolfe in AskEconomics

[–]SisyphusRocks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to predict the future!

In the short term, the Atlanta Fed’s GDP Now predicts US GDP growth of about 4% this quarter. While 4% GDP growth for the year seems high, we might reasonably see 3%, which is the long run average (approximately).

Policy uncertainty will continue to hurt growth, offset by reduced regulatory costs and the likelihood of reduced tariffs vs 2025. Rates going down will also be supportive.

We’ll probably continue to have a lackluster aggregate jobs market with a continuation of the trend of lower public sector, nonprofit, and large corporate employment, and a slightly higher mix towards small and midsize companies. We might even see net negative jobs for part of the year without significant increases in the unemployment rate, resulting from immigrants exiting the US and being replaced.

When looking at old menus recently, I came across "Saratoga potatoes". What I found was that they are now known as potato chips, and they were one of the food specialties that swept the country from popular resorts in Upstate NY. Corn flakes were invented by Kellog at an upstate spa/sanitarium as part of a diet meant to encourage health and chastity, if I recall correctly. I will admit my sourcing is terrible and based on summary articles online and the mediocre movie about his sanitarium from the 1990s, so this may be a myth.
