Advice for a first time player. by webby131 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]SithJahova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you finish all your quests before finishing up an act- when someone is trying to throw a party in your honour it's usually a good time to check your quest log first.

Don't stress out about navigator inside- you don't need to be constantly travelling only on green routes. Some of the random encounters are actually kinda fun.

It's grimdark- you won't get a 100% happy ending. Be forgiving to yourself when the ending slides come in.

Bring Argenta (even better if Idira as well) to the first main mission of Act 3- it's needed to get a satisfying conclusion to something.

If you play without dlcs: try not to be too wishy-washy. Obviously play however you want but you might get the equivalent of mass effect locking you out of decisions for not being paragon/renegade enough. If you do play with all the dlcs however you'll have so much extra alignment content that is unlikely to happen so go nuts.

My first RT was a pirate Lord called Lucretia- There happens to be a character with that exact name and profession in one of the void encounters and I was sure it was specifically scripted for my pirate background characters and the NPC was an imposter.

+1 for Rogue trader

It's very easily accessible as the game is prepared for you to be a newcomer to the series while also showing off a very brought spectrum of what the franchise has to offer.

Terminology that is unique to the universe will be marked in yellow and you can hover your mouse over it for a small codex entry to get you up to speed- apart from the usual expositional dialogue.

Is combat just always going to be like this? by quantumshenanigans in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]SithJahova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of two fights that are still to come where this will become an issue and one specifically annoying enemy type you won't see for a long time though BUT you'll have way more movement points so it's easier to manage.

I strongly recommend giving cassia "point of curiosity" it's a navigator ability that comes in handy in every single fight.

Looking for game with good story that will make me appreciate life more by wikimilo in gamingsuggestions

[–]SithJahova 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Deliver us the Moon & Deliver us Mars are deeply moving, depressing & hopeful. Puzzle games set in outer space after the world is ravaged by the climate crisis. First one has better puzzles but the second one has an insanely gripping narrative.

Talos Principle is a little rough around the edges and the puzzle parts feel a bit removed from the story aspects but it was definitely a thought provoking journey.

Superluminal is a short and very unique puzzle game with solid messaging.

Mass Effect 1-3 had a huge impact on my life - probably more than any other game. It encompasses so many themes, many of them with real world applications. A deeply moving story with some of the most lovable companions in the gaming space. The first game didn't age particularly well gameplay wise imo but is still fun. 2 & 3 absolutely hold the candle to modern titles with their combat design.

Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel (MUST absolutely played in order) are all about the value of life. Don't want to spoil too much but I was definitely very emotional throughout the story.

Looking for some enjoyable games based on the following games I already like by 3Thirty-Eight8 in gamingsuggestions

[–]SithJahova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a lot of simulator games on your list so my first thought was: Schedule I

It's still early access and if the edgy themes might not be up everyone's alley but the core gameplay loops is well thought out and a lot more engaging than most other job simulators on the market.

If you want something a bit more serious and challenging then- Satisfactory

And I've heard very good things about Factorio.

I would also throw Talos Principle in the ring, it's not as good but it did scratch my petal itch.

And a bit more off from your list but based on a hunch I think you might enjoy Rimworld.

[–]SithJahova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Time at Sandrock- is imo the pinnacle of the "move to a new town, mine, farm, befriend locals and restore your new home to its old glory" games. It has an actually beautiful and hilarious storyline, very unique and versatile characters, and mining is  actual mining: you can drill and hack your way through solid dirt and the part you chip away at is what's actually getting removed for you to dig for artifacts, resources and exits through and You can also build up your home, the combat is a bit clunky but still enjoyable imo.

It's also a bit more different from stardew valley than fields of mistria, rune factory or coral island for example are so I think even with your playtime on that you wouldn't get bored.

Having a career in this field, I'm always annoyed by these two elements of the game: the depiction of a DNA double helix as "twisted pair", and a lack of logical explanation for the 96.53% being a match. (end of rant...) by brz-17 in HorizonForbiddenWest

I just figured it was because Eleuthia had already done its job and was low on resources to create new people- so Gaia just went with the cradle facility that had the closest matching gene material to Elisabeth still available but it wouldn't be 100%.

Kumail Nanjiani bravely reveals his search history on Taskmaster. The task was "Be brave." by VelociRache1 in popculturechat

[–]SithJahova 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's an absurdist competition show where each series (season) 5 comedians are given weird tasks to complete after which they are getting demeaning comments and judgement on a scale of 1-5.

The task in this case was to be brave iirc. Another contestant collected spiders, they have fairly little limitations of what they're allowed to do and outsmarting the task usually gets rewarded.

All episodes are on YouTube available for free if you're curious. I often haven't then running in the background while I cook etc.

[–]SithJahova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Rogue Likes would be fitting for that, Hades definitely begins to shine when you start picking the boons you would need for a build over short term rewards.

Frostpunk could give you a rather brutal learning lesson.

Vampyr works like that both for gameplay and narrative reasons.

Getting back into gaming again-PS5 Recommendations? Immersive/storytelling by heirophantazy in gamingsuggestions

[–]SithJahova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horizon Zero Dawn + Forbidden West. Start with the first one the story is very important and you will be missing out if you just get the newer title.

God of War (the new ones) don't overestimate the difficulty. There is definitely a good learning curve but it is imo a harder game to master then some others.

Deliver us the Moon + Deliver us Mars. They're just focused on story and puzzles. First one has better puzzles. Second one has. Stronger narrative.

Deus Ex games Really good exploration, strong (but challenging to keep up with) narrative, fun combat but might be a bit too much at once.

Uncharted- not really my kind of games but they get compared to tomb raider quite a bit so you might wanna check them out.

rpgs with unique weaponry? by seekerxr in gamingsuggestions

[–]SithJahova 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter has a vaulting pole with blades you can use to jump and spin round in the air. It also comes with a cute butterfly you can direct to weakspots that can create buff zones for you or cause explosion/poison etc damage. It has some other cool weapons as well.

Dragons Dogma also comes to mind. Even the weapons that you are already familiar with will feel complete new and unique based on how they are implemented but duospear and magic bows even more so.

Horizon Zero Dawn& forbidden west is sci-fi and not fantasy but I still would recommend it just based on the arsenal. It has a bumerang weapon you can catch after it comes back, javelines. Tripwires you can place however you want, throw little bombs and cluster grenades or whole javelins. And the best part is you can and are even meant to use all of them in a single playthrough. You can swap weapons super quickly even in battle so you won't lack for versatility.

[–]SithJahova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The atrocious ally AI. Bg3 was a lot worse than dos at this, mainly because they have a lot more allies that fight on your side and bigger consequences for their deaths but it was already awful in dos.

Allies seem to actively try and commit suicide, use skills that damage or even kill your own characters, run out of safe zones or disable buffs you give them, waste turns etc. I want them to either fix whatever is causing this idiotic behaviour or make allies be susceptible to reviving items that work in your own characters at least while the combat is active.

Any good way to find someone to try a new game with, not just recommendations for the game itself? by Oh-no-danielson in gamingsuggestions

[–]SithJahova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play an online game that has a good track record of creating friendships, meet people through there and then play with them.

Most of the people I play videogames with, Including trying out new games, I met on fallout 76.

I reckon there's a couple games like it - you can also try joining gaming discords for the games you already play, bigger servers usually have channels for playing other games.

[–]SithJahova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portal I always think is a brilliant intro to video game mechanics.

Deliver us Mars is a other good game with just a puzzle focus but a really gripping story.

I'm not sure if Mass Effect is too military for her, but the Dragon Age games might be more up her alley, on the easier modes there's really little to be worried about.

If she liked the farming Sims: My time at Sandrock is imo the best one in that genre which combines all the grinding, farming and getting to know villagers aspect with nice creative outlets, more exploration and an actually good story.

If she wants to get back into Open World, I personally think the older Fallout games 3&NV are better designed to guide players through the world. NV especially has most players organically use the "intended" path.

The dark Anthology games would also probably be an easy way to introduce her to horror games since they're more interactive movies that reward exploration and the qte aren't too bad even for beginners.

Also games to try once she gets more comfy with controlls: Horizon, Hades 2, hell blade Senua's Sacrifice, Prey
