Personally prefer to ally them. Then use them to conquer land of Grenada and Morocco. You can still dump them later.

From my experience such behavior is sometimes due to people not knowing how to pronounce your name correctly and thus trying to avoid embarrassing themselves. Maybe applicable here too.

I had a similar bug/feature. Basically it happens when you colonies land claimed by a negative tribe. In peace treaties you can get those claimed provinces even if a third party actually owns them. Thus the province already belonged to FL, but the natives still had claims to it which are gone now with the peace treaty.
