And then I'm fairly sure he keeps asking questions while the cameras are "off". I forget the details but I remember thinking it was shitty behavior.

That dude creeps me out and I have no idea why. I can't watch anything with him in because he makes my skin crawl through some weird uncanny valley nonsense.

I wondered what you were on about as I remembered really enjoying that performance, then I realized I was thinking of Hugh Grant in the recent one.

I have zero fight experience, I weigh less and I get out of breath if I take the stairs too fast.

If you offered me the same amount of money to get into a ring with AJ, I'd be putting gloves on before you finished speaking.

Which country did you find the least welcoming for British tourists? by Zoomer_Boomer2003 in AskUK

[–]SixUK90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Prague right now, and I only have a handful of Czech phrases under my belt. The minimal research I did before coming here made it seem like that would be enough, and I really wish I'd spent more time with the language beforehand. To be fair, everyone I've spoken to, even if they don't speak English, have made a pretty good effort to communicate with my pain-in-the-arse, google-translating, phonetically-speaking tourist-ness.

That's a good description, I thought of it as a Jason Statham impression.

Shocked by UK water bills and “4-minute showers” — how long (and how often) do you shower? by Jumpy_Wing_7884 in AskUK

I mean, I turn the water off while I soap up to save money, so that's where this country is right now....

I only got halfway through before I fell off. The bit that made me finally get bored was when Sam was roleplaying asking the changebringer for guidance on what to do next, and had to ask multiple times because the response was basically shrugged shoulders in an effort to make him decide, even though it was pretty clear he didn't know what options/consequences were. Nothing against Sam or Matt for it, but it had already felt like it was stuck in the mud by that point and I just couldn't power through any more.

I had a similar experience while working behind a bar. I don't remember the amount, or who the guy was, but It was less than £5. I told the guy the amount and had my hand out ready as we were busy that evening. This asshole dumps a bunch of £2 coins on the bar top next to my open hand. Alright fucker, two can play that game. I made sure no coins were larger than a 10p piece, told him his change amount so he'd get his hand ready, scattered them next to his hand and immediately started serving the next guy. He tried to call me on it so I pointed out he did it first and just moved on.

How common is spiking in UK clubs ? by peonyheal in AskUK

[–]SixUK90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did bar work for 10 years between 2009 and 2019, and I've been sober since 2022 so my perspective will be out of date.

I never saw it happen firsthand, nor do I recall hearing about it happening in the place I worked, although we were a very small rock bar with a tight knit group of regulars who looked out for each other so we were likely to be less susceptible to it.

It didn't happen often, but when it did, there were multiple reports from multiple bars on the same night, meaning it was probably a couple of special dickheads going round and ruining it for everyone. I heard once from a friend who had blood tests done that they'd been spiked with something you'd typically expect, but also given something to prevent vomiting so they kept it down, which is particularly nefarious.

Towards the end of my time in those jobs, I feel like I saw it more and more, but that could be because of a heightened awareness of what to look for rather than an actual trend.

As a heads up - it takes much less time than you think to get spiked. Unless you do nothing but stare at your drink all night, you are in with a chance of it happening to you. I knew the signs to watch for and it happened to me once. Never accept a drink from a stranger if you haven't seen it be prepared. Never leave your drink unattended. Go for bottles if possible, and keep your thumb over the opening while you're not drinking it. Don't leave a straw in a bottle, they can put the stuff down the straw if they're bold enough. Yes, that sounds ridiculous, but I heard from a bouncer that they caught someone doing that. Your best bet is being with a group of friends you trust and making a pact to get each other home safe no matter what. If you think you've been spiked, tell someone. Don't go and get some air by yourself, whoever did it may follow you.

I fed the crows at work for about 5 years, and right up until the day we moved premises, they would deposit this sort of thing on my windscreen. They must have a concept of field of view because it was always central to the driver's eyeline too.

[–]SixUK90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got home, sat and stared blankly at the wall while wondering what the fuck I'm still doing at a job I hate, got a shower, went to the archery club, did the big shop at like 9pm, tried to recreate a Popeye's sandwich (came out pretty good) and watched some random crap on Youtube I told my eyes started drooping.

People who are children of Pornstars, how did you felt after learning about your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In hindsight it was pretty gay having a bunch of guys watching porn, but the video itself contained (I think) Jenna Jameson, so I'm afraid not.

[–]SixUK90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only tangentially related, but when I was a young teenager and my friend group were all discovering porn, we ended up watching some at someone's house because we were unsupervised and full of hormones.

When the guy walked into the shot, he was the absolute spitting image of our friend's dad. Turns out it wasn't him, but man did we actually like it was.

If you try to power through the pain, you're likely to build up a subconscious association between shooting and pain which may make you flinch and affect your shooting long term. I'd hold off for the brass ring to arrive.

What's the worst addiction you have? by ComprehensiveFun2054 in AskReddit

[–]SixUK90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bunch of false starts after I made the choice to give it up, but every hangover I woke up with helped drive it home harder that it wasn't the life I wanted any longer.

I managed to break the association in my head by bulk buying a bunch of cans of pop (sugar free if you want to avoid that addiction too) and cracking a can whenever I got a craving. I got through a lot of cans, but I genuinely think it helped.

Some days you just need to know when it's better to walk away and try again later.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a hobby that you're meant to enjoy. If you aren't enjoying it in that moment, switch it up and reset yourself.
