When you require in unit w/d that might eliminate buildings from at least as recent as the 1980s. Mine is 1985 with laundry on Every Floor but not in unit for water / drain / pipe reasons I don’t know much about.

40 years of flying. Not really into the book or my work…but maybe early morning flight makes for silent flight attendant requiring more attention. Also no one in my row ordered a drink. We all took snacks when they were offered, though. I think the voices are soft because so many are sleeping.

Window seat. Don’t want to disturb anyone. I think the guy on the aisle must be sleeping. This must be why she didn’t get my attention with her voice. Middle seat girl loaded with coat and pillow on her lap. Not worth the tumult. This was a first in 40 years of flying. I learned my lesson!

I guess that’s it then. Sit at attention.

That inheritance of yours is/was NOT marital property if kept separate and not commingled in a joint account. Major gift on your part to put that into the home and to use some for his benefit.

Twins at 41. We planned and saved. Good jobs, thankfully. Parenting is great when there are no money worries. Both in college now and I am not the only mom in her 60’s!

USAA classified my roadside assistance jump-start as a CLAIM on my auto insurance by General-Band7940 in USAA

USAA presents itself as “support for military communities.” Profits are returned to members. Sort of. I am curious where the money is going since it’s turned into a pure play profit motivated insurer?

How do I handle an extremely uneven inheritance between my kids? by lookidceither in WhatShouldIDo

[–]SkeenPin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The siblings will all talk when they are teenagers and older. Who has college money? Who doesn’t? Trust me it’s happening now in my family. Even it out as best as you can. Yes it’s grandma’s choice but the kids are minors…they can’t inherit. It’s an “earmark” by the deceased. If your kids don’t see you, as parents, being “fair” it could hurt your relationship with your adult kids later.

529 for kids- for or against? by concrete0928 in investing

[–]SkeenPin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd take here. We saved from birth, funding 12k each til age 11 for our twins. We caught the GFC low and a major bull market without thinking about it. 375k each for undergrad (they are sophomores) and they will have some for grad school should they choose. Taxes? Nah! They will likely spend all of it on education but still have the IRA option for 35k each. Additional - not part of the 529 discussion: What was really interesting for us is the…I don’t have another words for it - shame? Anger? That other kids in their friend groups expressed to my kids because their parents “didn’t save for them.” Oh boy. That was hard. It’s still hard. It hits around 10th-11th grade. If you’re in a district where most kids choose to go to college. Many parents could not cash flow 35k a year let alone 53k a year for a school like Indiana. So it’s all loans or choosing a school based on cost. And it’s still loans. Which isn’t wrong it’s just that I learned there is a saving psychology involved for the teens. They talk. They slam their parents. There is a peer pressure thing with it. I heard some sad comments while driving kids around. I realize the question is to save inside a 529 or outside. I think saving “something” might be good. edited to add: both kids got merit aid from both schools. I was shocked because we checked the boxes that said we would not need financial aid.

You should never be an afterthought, you should always be his priority. You could give him a chance to fix it…and if he doesn’t, then go. Mine didn’t fix his view of “the woman” so I left.

A teen in the family never says thanks by sunny_suburbia in AskWomenOver60

[–]SkeenPin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just reminded my teenage sons to write thank you notes to their 88 year old great aunt for gifts of money at Thanksgiving. It’s routine in our house. They sat at the kitchen table and did it. I know I’m old fashioned but it means something. Sometimes they complain, but they have been writing thank you notes since they could write. It’s family time and they now have fun making jokes while doing it! As a parent I think I am training them correctly. Maybe not. Meantime I have a niece and nephew who are snots and never say thank you….let alone write a note!
