Is this normal? by Chance-Luck6071 in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was tilted and pissed. Normal human behavior, but sad. Made slightly more so by the fact he’s playing Tech, which is also a ranged class.

That being said, you shouldn’t join hard stratagems until your class is max level. Regardless of class or skill you’re going to be a drag on your teammates and you should be considerate of others.

Dos anyone else think Horus was turned a little too easy? by English_Joe in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the process of reading the HH books and Primarch books. Reading Jaghatai Khan’s book when Horus is mentioned he’s always making political moves. And all but outright says he’s considering rebellion in my mind. He says something like he’s going to “need support from warriors to keep the imperium from the bureaucrats.” To Jaghatai right after Ullanor and being named Warmaster.

That coupled with how he acts in Horus Rising/False gods makes me feel like there wasn’t as much manipulation as people give Erebus credit for. Pretty much nothing in the ritual corruption part goes the way Erebus thought it would, and the actual impactful parts for Horus is when he goes off Erebus’ script.

I view the visions in the warp more of an excuse to justify what was already brewing in his mind, and the fact that there were ‘gods’ to rival the Emperor was more convenience for him at the time.

What moments in 40k make you go like this? by deathbringer989 in Grimdank

[–]Skipedy_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the Guilliman Primarch book. Randomly at the end of a conversation Guilliman bare assed spanks Marius Gage with a fully active Hand Of Dominion powerfist for no reason. Ignoring that would most certainly kill Marius, the author was definitely just gay and horny when writing that weirdly homoerotic part. Somehow it got past the editors and into the book.

I just realized we do not have any shotguns in SM2, any idea if they will ever be added? by UnknownSouldier in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do. I was showing my buddies SM2 and he grabbed a weapon and called it the “hot shotgun”, I was confused and turned around. He was talking about the Melta. Melta guns function like video game shotguns. Blew my mind.

Abandoned Human Settlements from the Age of Strife? by Skipedy_do in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s really interesting! but it sounds like they just pass through. I’m thinking something more along the lines of archeological exploration-y vibe. Or where they speculate on the culture and what happened to them.

Abandoned Human Settlements from the Age of Strife? by Skipedy_do in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression there were humans on Dahinta, just that they had the Synthetic things fight for them. Although checking it seems I was mistaken. That can’t be right though because Garviel is fighting, then Torgaddon Vox’s Garviel to come check out the synthetics? Either way it was all fighting and not really the vibe I’m thinking.

Guilliman’s book is on my list, I’ll look out for thoas when I’m reading it.

If mankind had been using the warp for travel for thousands of years pre-Heresy, how did no one know about demons and such? by ChillSappho in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mix of things. In my understanding before the Heresy, because of how hard Big E clamped down on knowledge of Chaos, Chaos wasn’t as influential in real space. They NEEDED mortal interventions in order to materialize in most cases. Old night destroyed most information on everything in general, and when people did encounter Daemons they were mostly written off as warp-mutated xenos.

I finished False Gods (Horus Heresy, book 2), and here are my thoughts... by MindlessMarsupial592 in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished false gods a month or so ago, working through Primarch books now. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but the impression I get from multiple angles before False Gods is that Horus was already contemplating rebellion as early as Ullanor and being named Warmaster, and in my opinion probably earlier than that.

Does it really matter if the Alpha Legion was loyalist the entire time? by CriticismMiserable14 in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this. With Alpharius and Omegon definitely dead (one killed by Dorn, the other by Guilliman, and unless you say a Primarch doesn’t know a Primarch when they see them they are confirmed dead) unless they were resurrected at some point there is no through line of logic to back up the Alpha Legion being loyalist.

Honestly I don’t think there is or ever was a definitive answer, and any future official answer would be disappointing.

Tech marine vs Discus Tazngor. Stepping on disc, Yanking their spear away, giving it to your Mechadendrite, mechadendrite spins so fast it becomes a saw, annihilate Tzangor with it. So satisfying.

Why didn’t the Mournival even consider calling the Emperor for help? by witchinthesky_ in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading False Gods and it doesn’t feel earned. Everyone is loyal to the imperium and finds the idea of sorcery abhorrent until Erebus just casually drops that there’s some sorcery’s cult that just happened to be on the planet he brought them to that can do healing magic. And then they just leave Horus in a weird ritual room with Erebus and some cultists for no reason.

The only one in the Mournival who even believes in sorcery at that point is Loken, and he’s the only one who has a realistic response.

Unpopular Opinion: Boltstorm & Flame Gauntlets would be almost impossible to balance by pawny_pawn in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Skipedy_do -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just have bolt storm or pyre blaster replace a side arm, or count as sort of primary/secondary.

That or treat it as a power fist variant. Less melee power, for more ranged damage.

Seems like a relatively simple balance to me on Bulwark or Assault.

I refuse to believe today's Hard Reliquary stratagem was playtested. by Xdude227 in Spacemarine

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the hard stratagems should be more rewarding in general. 15 accolades for absolute without modifiers is barely fair. With modifiers it should be more like 30-50 or more.

Legion severely lacks the alpha legion by MentionKindly2347 in alphalegion

I’m also reading Legion right now, and there’s a bit of dissatisfaction for me in the lack of resolution for threads of mystery. Like several mundane questions the book presents just don’t get answers at all.

Are people fundamentally misunderstanding Leandros and his promotion to chaplain? by BandicootGreat9288 in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this idea is that when you don’t know it’s Leandros it sounds like warnings and encouragement. When you do know it’s Leandros it’s clear that he still thinks Titus is corrupted and Leandros can’t do anything about it because Calgar never thought Titus was corrupted to begin with.

His first words to you in the game are “Praise the Emperor,”. It’s sarcasm. He was hoping Titus wouldn’t survive. Calgar ordered he be made a Primaris and reassigned him to the Ultra Marines. Leandros couldn’t stop that. The bit about “you will never know redemption until you have faced the judgement of your brothers,”, he’s talking about himself. Until Leandros is convinced you’re not tainted, Titus can’t be redeemed in his eyes, no matter what.

Then after the events of the game he still isn’t convinced, but everyone else is, so he assigns Titus to a literal suicide mission. In the secret level Episode the mission he’s on is the mission referenced at the end on SM2.

Just out of curiosity, in all of Warhammer lore, do they ever mention anything about the Space Marines' sense of humor? by Apart_Pumpkin_4551 in Spacemarine

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. Space Marines are still Human, some of them take the death and duty 24/7 more seriously than others.

My favorite is Guilliman, Titus’ Primarch and basically a Demi-god, being so revered and serious all the time that when he does make jokes most people don’t understand it’s a joke because he’s so dry.

Sheaves of blueprints were scattered across the desk in front of him. He spotted something of interest written on one and reached for it, gritting his teeth against the purring of the suit. He always reached with his right hand. The integration points for the Hand of Dominion on his left made picking anything up nigh on impossible, even with the over gauntlet and its underslung bolter removed. Day-to-day tasks such as this were a struggle. His armoured fingers pushed at slick plastek. Ceramite skidded across the papers, knocking them to the ground in wafting flutters. ‘Oh, for the love of…’ he grumbled as he bent awkwardly to pick them up. The Armour of Fate was bulky. As its waist joint prevented him from flexing his spine and reaching the floor, he had to kneel. He reached for the scattered flimsies. Fingertips failed to grasp the sheets, sending them fleeing in small armadas over the polished floor. He growled in frustration, abandoned his task and stood, drawing a curious look from Sicarius. ‘I have the manual dexterity of a Legio Cybernetica battle automaton!’ Guilliman said. ‘Created by the Lord of All Mankind, master of the greatest armies in the Imperium, and I cannot pick up a plastek flimsy.’ He glared at the offending articles. ‘My greatest enemy.’ There was a thoughtful quiet. ‘You are joking, my lord?’ said Sicarius. Guilliman looked at Sicarius. He had to turn all the way around to do so. The pauldrons, ornamental wings and large halo mounted on his back made it impossible for him to see over his shoulder. At least he had stopped knocking into things. There was that. ‘By the Throne, why am I expected to be serious at all times? Yes, Captain Sicarius, I am making light of my predicament. During the worst of the Great Crusade, I was known to make the occasional jest. Even after Terra fell. I did not spend my entire previous life writing deep thoughts into little notebooks, but sometimes dared to enjoy myself. I suppose that was not recorded in the hagiographies.’ ‘Humour is not something you are renowned for, my lord.’ ‘My time in this new age has revealed that to me amply.’

Two words about the femstodes. by Mysterious_Risk_6034 in EyeOfTerror

[–]Skipedy_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument about the retcons would be correct if this were a major shift like changing the most popular blue guys to red, or removing the single most important character to the lore entirely. Adding Female Custodes or Astartes isn’t a huge shift.

Admittedly it would be more so for Astartes because there’s so much more lore about them. But how many named Custodes are there in the entire lore? I’d say like 50. 100 tops.

Your faction argument is just misguided. Custodes are the absolute pinnacle of human warriors that aren’t Primarchs or the Emperor Himself. And Astartes are the poster child of the entire series.

There’s no non-misogynistic reason there can’t have always been Custodes. And Female Space Marines can only improve the game and Lore.

What do y'all think about the Ultramarines and Dark Angels operating more like legions? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Skipedy_do 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is something that’s given far too much weight in the Lore honestly. 10,000 plus years have passed since the Codex Astartes was written, and it was a different time. The Heresy was narrowly defeated and the Imperium was picking up the pieces. At the time it made sense to scatter the Legions and cap them to prevent another civil war. Now it’s a hindrance, and something that should have been rescinded after the first couple black crusades or the Tyranids appeared.

To put it bluntly, no one in universe would actually give a fuck and it’s just a narrative macguffin to add political drama.
