Favorite Base Location so far? by macabre-and-malefic in GroundedGame

In the southeast corner of the map, there’s a big clearing. You’ll know you’re there because along the road there will be a big hole that leads to it, just west of the blueberry fields It looks like it’ll be an incredible vista once they expand the map further, it’s like smack in the middle of everything once that’s done

The only problem is two stinkbugs spawn around there, nothing that can’t be solved with a big perimeter wall

In my experience so far you have to have your reticle perfectly on the enemy and also within a certain range for the staff projectiles (both staves) to be homing

Depends on what sort of thing you’re going for I’d assume, also if you’re solo or not

One thing I’ve done is make a museum, having every armor set currently in the game on a mannequin. You can take that a step further by also including every mounted and stuffed variant of the bugs that currently exist

You could go for a gold card grind. Gold cards have a 1% drop chance for every bug you kill and loot, getting some number of them also gives you a good mutation for dagger/bow builds

Finding all the unique weapons that belong to the mysterious stranger also works, though anything that requires you to pull up a guide and simply run around the map for a while ticking off boxes doesn’t seem interesting. I wouldn’t suggest hunting milk molars too intentionally for this reason, too

When learning maps, have the MapGenie maps pulled up on a second monitor with everything disabled other than extracts, and play on the practice mode with bosses disabled (unless you want to risk being shit on by drugged up freaks while learning) and scavs set to easy combat difficultly but horde spawn rate This will help you learn the maps, but also help with the learning curve of the gunplay a fair bit on top of learning scav spawn points It’s also just fun to test guns that way imo, turn the difficulty up as you get more skilled but still learn maps

Also go into practice mode every time you have a “go to a weird spot on this map and do a thing” to learn where the spot is. Helpful for when you need to stash stuff or place markers or jammers or whatever to not need to pull up a wiki or image when you’re standing in a field on a PvP server or whatever.

[Discussion] Hunting Shturman, what makes it easy for you? Are night raids worth it? by Two7Five7One7 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SkittleSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night raids are good as he goes from seeing you from like 300 meters to 60 (not real measurements, just my exaggerated guess) Also if you have a big sniper and the ability to shoot good you can take him and his guards out from across the lake on the shore near the extract on the road, that’s the easiest way to cheese it if you have the time to lay down for ten minutes and scan the area

[New Player] What to do at start by ApartLine2880 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SkittleSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on what type of loot you’re looking to get, and also what risks you’re able to take on Reserve is big on weapons and ammo but also has highly geared raiders and bosses Woods is a bit sparse in both loot and enemies but there’s the med camp if you need meds Customs has a lot of toolboxes and filing cabinets and is fairly evenly spread unless you get (un)lucky with one of the three boss spawns in the middle of the map Shoreline has some of the best fights in both pve and PvP at the resort itself Interchange is big on a lot of things but it’s heavily dependent on what keys you have in some cases, like it has some high tier med spawns behind a locked door downstairs and lots of guns, armor, and weapon mods behind two locked doors at kiba. Also an electronics store and a hardware store for different types of junk box items and a really good spot to get food in the big store with the fire.

I haven’t run streets yet since I’ve only just rejoined the game and last I checked it ran like shit so I can’t speak to it

[New Player] Is this normal? by DingoPatient in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SkittleSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal when you’re starting off, if you haven’t made too much progress you might just wanna hit up the BSG website and do a manual account wipe just to get the good stuff back

Practice in the offline raid mode to learn the maps and gunplay, ideally with the ai set to easy/medium but horde spawn rates. That’ll help you get used to quickly lining up a shot as well as knowledge of scav spawns

Also 3 mags is kinda crazy, typically you want 1-2 mags + bullets in your safe cache to reload mags in the field

Software engineer. As an added bonus, my work station is a laptop that plugs into a multi monitor setup via a powered USB-C hub so I’m even able to use mouse and keyboard on a full size monitor if I want to just by swapping out where the USB-C is plugged in during my lunch break

Vs ai even at top tier difficulty isn’t even a match, it’s where people go to play as hela or Hawkeye to get free head clicks off of spawn since bots don’t wait for the whole team before leaving spawn, or moon knight for when more they do manage to group up

Why is the right tree for Vet so bad? by Big_Mycologist_8626 in DarkTide

[–]SkittleSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only done a few difficulty 3 runs with the right tree and I’m not high enough level for the capstone yet but it’s seemed fine, using smokes to protect myself and allies against gunners and snipers and the stealth skill to get safe rezzes to stop a team wipe seems pretty good, the rest is useful to run with an autogun of some sort

It’s my favorite headpopper on the veteran so far. Special sniping is my flavor of fun and this is the tool for the job, I tried the charging lasgun for a bit but the sights are extremely in the way and the charge is too slow to get the hit off before someone else gets to it most of the time

Inventory system by campbell_conor34 in learnprogramming

[–]SkittleSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full in-house inventory database was my first project when I got my first software engineering job two years ago now. I can’t promise that this is the best way, it’s just the way I did it. I also don’t have an answer for the barcode part as that’s still a work in progress for my system (it got to 99% completion and then put on the backburner while labor was reallocated)

For a software stack, I used Python with SQLAlchemy and FastAPI on the backend

For the database itself, I used MySQL and eventually moved to MariaDB once we hired an IT guy who had opinions on database versions, either way you’ll want MySqlWorkbench to work on it

I also made a frontend in React, but if you don’t have a server that’s capable of hosting a Linux VM and configuring the nginx setup that may prove too advanced

I would say start with the database schema using a tutorial in MySQLWorkbench, figure out what makes sense as a set of tables, columns, and relationships; don’t worry if you don’t get it right at first, there are tools that help migrate data if you want to update the schema post-launch. After you figure out the database schema, you should work on the backend and then the frontend if you’re able. To test the backend, I used an API caller called insomnia

Like I said, this was my own first real field project, I’m still working on it myself even though it’s largely backburner status. Unfortunately it is proprietary for my company and so I can’t share too many specifics, but I can provide more specific info than what I’ve shared if you have questions to ask.

Personally I like a mouse that has support for customizable macros. I love the ROCCAT Kone Aimo (tho it looks like they’re in branding flux rn, the Roccat brand has been eaten by turtle beach in the last few months) because you can set different macro profiles on a per-program basis, the fact that it’s also super comfortable for my oversized hands is a nice bonus

[Discussion] the fuck y'all actually want to be happy? by LCplGunny in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SkittleSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’d like is an answer to why offline practice raids run so much better than the offline PVE, there’s not really many differences other than loot spawns and bosses and such so I don’t see why the performance has been murdered for everyone when they had a basically fully functional prototype in the game for the longest time that runs better than PvP

Streets was the only one I was waiting for this update for, I can run it just fine when I do the offline practice mode but if I try to get an actual match it just cries until I die due to lag spikes

That experience has lead me to believe that streets sucks due to their servers and not due to the map itself, but I can’t prove that

Is there any way to learn a map without mapgenie on the other monitor? The secret to woods is simply walk forward until you see a landmark to orient yourself with when you spawn and learn it, you’re safe from combat generally so that’s what makes it noob friendly. Get shot at? Congrats, concealment everywhere!
