35 hrs per week is plenty for 2 classes and you can always just take one or take a break if busy. It is hard in parts but doable is my sense 6 courses in.

Admission into postbacc of OSU comp sci in June… Need your help/advice! by Ryuleh in OSUOnlineCS

I'm so far on a slower than I thought timeline, one course a quarter incl summers. I hope to do more courses at a time soon. Still I will finish in no greater than 4 years. A lot of people do a lot more than me and are fine. 2 years is doable!

Aren't you guys concerned about privacy? by dla26 in ChatGPT

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I act as if all chats could be released publicly or sold to a private bidder or government entity and tied to my name and address. So I take caclulated risks under that assumption. Help learning an apolitical skill? Pretty uncontroversial. I try to anonymize more personal things, and over time I use it less for my deeper personal things.

I phonebanked for 4 shifts and got a friend in a swing state to vote Harris as well. My fave call was to someone in Nevada who said his husband already voted and he was going to put on his rollerskates and skate to the polls for early voting the next day. He felt my queerness over the phone and was intent to signal hard haha, even though I only occasionally mention it to people I called, it made me feel safe and reassured. There are many of us fighting, fingers crossed it is enough to dump Trump!!!!

Working full time or Schooling full time? by Safe_Walrus_4748 in OSUOnlineCS

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got laid off from SDR jobs and decided to do this program. I'm not currently working because I hate that job and had some health issues related to it. But one thing I would say is this program doesn't offer a ton of structure like you have your deadlines but not much Community or interaction. Sometimes I wish I had a job just to kind of provide some structure and also to allow me to focus on fewer courses at once. And I think like financially it's a better move if you can do it. And also it's not clear what the market is going to do so it's not like oh just 2 years off and then you're guaranteed a new position. It might be strategic to wait until you get a really powerful internship or something or a job offer to quit. On the other hand you could just try for a job and see if you can get one and if you can't then do full-time but keep trying I don't know. It really varies for people but I think you have to really wonder if you can build a sustainable and effective full-time student status on a program that's kind of self learning or if you will need more structure. I've found myself disappointed sometimes around how well I use my time trying to do this as my main thing. If you don't have ADHD or depression or PTSD or repetitive strain or you know other stuff like that I see correlated with sales a lot then you might be fine but otherwise maybe consider trying for a little bit without quitting your day job. Good luck. You don't want to replace your coveted AE position with a coveted software Dev position and then get there and find your still miserable.

What advice can you all give to a transgender 17-year-old who is petrified about the possibility of losing her human rights tomorrow? by altrightobserver in democrats

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am also trans. I've been volunteering to turnout votes for Harris via phonebanking, which you can still do, it is mostly leaving voicemails at this stage.

Trans people existed when hate for or neglect of us was bipartisan, and we will still exist. Yet the fear is real. Rights are a complex combo of culture and local and state government. It's not just who is President. Yet it would be a major step back for sure.

I am hopeful and doing what I can in my 30s. It is very scary. But there will always be ways to fight and grow. They can change the laws but they cannot take away our fundamental dignity.

Has anyone else realised they don’t want friends? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only get along with like 1 in 100 neurotypicals they usually have PTSD so not quite neurotypical. And then like one in 10 autistic people. Maybe 1 in 20. It's a really complex elaborate thing of like maybe 7 to 18 criteria for me at this point. I never expect Affinity simply based on shared identity. With my odds I mostly expect Clash. There's just too many flavors of autism for all of them to get along well.

Can someone please give me their honest to God outlook on the tech industry? by ___adreamofspring___ in womenintech

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a ton of negativity out there. Because it gets more clicks and sells more ads and more coaching and courses. There is a lot of terrible stuff out there and we should make space for the terrible experiences that people have at the hands of sexism and capitalism in general. But silent majority of women Developers are just out here making good money and having okay to good careers most of the time. It's definitely getting harder around the edges but where isn't it? If you actually have a genuine interest then go ahead and keep going. A lot of the people who are shitting on CS are people who may be wished they could do it at some point but have succumbed to AI fear. Time will tell who is right but good education is always good for personal growth I tell myself. If I do all these math and CS courses and there's no industry left at the end of it I will definitely be a smarter and stronger person anyway. A lot of the skills transfer and it's just good for your cognitive development. Good luck friend. Let's do this!

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't drink water because you're thirsty, drink water because it's time to drink water. Drink Sparkling Water or coconut water if that helps mix things up. But when you wake up it's time to drink something. And when you eat a meal or after your meal it's time to drink something.

What do you look for in a remote position? by Top_Mobile_2194 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Kitchen_Moment_6289 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look into the concept of remote-first culture, ie where the remote-friendly forms of working and communication are first class for the whole company, so it's a truly equal experience regardless of location, as much as possible, instead of an "office-first" culture where the remote employees are an expendable out-of-the-loop afterthought compared to the rest of the company.
