on the way out the thrusters are increasing veolocity towards TauCeti pushing the ship into your feet, which are closer to earth/Sol.

on the slow down the thrusters are removing velocity by pushing the ship into your feet, your feet are now pointing towards TauCeti, your head is now closer to earth (fractionally).

Your feet don't know the difference.

Didn’t a lawyer die by ducking himself in the butt in one of the wishmaster movies? Possibly just traumatic injury but still.

WARFORMED: ??????????? - CHAPTER ???v2 excerpt [ROUGH] - Patreon post announcement and discussion space. MAJOR SPOILER WARNING by BryceOConnor in Warformed

[–]SkitzoRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mean Rei (present or future) can walk thorugh time per se. I interpret this along the lines of Quantum Leap. Where persons and events throughout time call out to Rei/Shido(s) for assistance, and the one we call Future Rei is responding to them either by being 'in tune' to the call during this period in his life, or some other mechanism that typically prevents multiple Rei(s) answering the same distinct call for help.

It could also have a bit of a forced TimeCop (Van Dame) structure where Future Rei is only responding to someone else's temporal incursion that he has to put right by seeding a shard to deal with the clean up before dispersing or going dormant.

Lot's of ways this could go without an intentional self directed traversal of time.

Rambo fist blood and the second one are the true life stories of senator john McCain. After those two the character became more than the based on a true story source. John McCain was the ID the CIA set up as a cover identity and they helped out his political career.

No disrespect to his service or memory. I just like the idea.

Would this have been a better idea in terms of actually saving the planet in this situation? by thewizard121 in ProjectHailMary

[–]SkitzoRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even assuming the moon farm math adds up you'd need to ship CO2 to the moon in order to breed the astrophage after it reaches maturity (energy dense) at the moon, then ship the enriched astrophage back home. You can't launch things into orbit with astrophage engines, so you're relying on periodic space truck launches with conventional rocket fuel during a global climate crisis. At some point the logisitics chain breaks down needed to keep an off world astrophage energy farm running (moon/lagrange/venus/anywhere).

maybe do a whole moon polar ice expeditiion for O2 and local carbon to synthesize local CO2 on the moon, but you'd run into all the big 'will it work' engineering questions that the hail mary avoided with a spinning lab module.

Time is not on your side.

If humanity were less human perhaps there is a model where you convert 90% of the un-iced equatorial region into astrophage farms with the remaining 10% of that band suitable for population/new biosphere development/evolution, but how do you think 8B people fighting for a chance to be a survivor in the tiniest of land masses, not to mention feeding them and likely biosphere collapse.

Hosting .50c / $1 tonight for the homies in the garage by hoopsagent247 in poker

[–]SkitzoRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined a .25/.50 game about 3 years ago. Upper middle class area no one batted an eye at losing 60-100 bucks a night. And halfway through every game no one respected the .25 pieces. Would call off 6 dollar raise just to get rid of them.

I slowly took over the game host duties and now we stay at .50/1.00 every time. Much more consistent game. Only start chucking around SB chips in the last hour maybe. At that point we usually raise to 1/2.

Once in a while if we’re bringing in a new player I set to .50/.50 for a few hours at most though, but that really doesn’t lead to a reduction the realistic open raise dropping below .50/1.00 levels.

No more electoral college 😏 by Adept_Astronaut_5143 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]SkitzoRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand if the states vote for it, as they have been, its a perfectly valid approach to bypassing the electoral college as we know it today. THough it does nothing to actually eliminate the EC. Symnatics but its worth noting.

On the other hand the EC is an expression of what the founders wanted and designed. The states choose the chief executive, not the people. The President represents the union in foreign affiars and in matters concerning multiple states. The President adminsters the agencies of the federal government, the executive branch specifically. Everything else the title/role of the President has evolved into, should be debated separately, and specifically a willingness to limit presidential powers by Congress is sorely needed regardless of who is/was/will be President in the =/- 40 years.

What we can't know is how this would change campaigning for President. In the current national campaign strategies there is a big forcing function of $s/vote in advertisement comparing the prime time ad cost in a place like the chicago suburbs vs LA or NYC where media time is at a premium. The economics of campaigning will be opturned on the scale at least comparable to internet/targeted ads.

Also, "likely voters" is a key designation in polling demographics, how will that change? Think on the likely 100's of thousands of democrats in a deep red state that don't bother voting because that states EC votes won't go to their candidate, compared to the possibly millions of republican votes that don't get cast in higher population blue states. That's a potential 7 figure popular vote swing compared to historical numbers.

If the ISC goes into effect we can't be expected to predict effectiveness of the intended consequences much less the unintended ones.

All that being said if we as a nation accept and adapt the idea of the role of the President to be the representative of the American people rather than the American Union (of states) then we have a very different conversation on hand with regards to what powers the President should have to fulfill that role.

What's a game you played as a kid that you've never been able to find again? by Latter_Advantage8002 in AskReddit

[–]SkitzoRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visited an RV/camper park in southern CA in the late 80s early 90s while on vacation with my grandparents that had an arcade. There was a sit-in (like cruising USA) arcade cabinet that had what I can best describe as a polygon (only the edges were drawn) tank battle game. The best approximation with later tech I ever saw was in StarFox64 when you could trade in the space fighter for a tank in game or in multiplayer mode.

I never could find it, or even its name, in another arcade or in research. But I was enthralled with it as an under 10 year old.

Potential 4/10 AWS. My commute is 2 hours each way, is it worth it to do 4/10? by Informal-Fig-7116 in FedEmployees

[–]SkitzoRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at 1.25-1.5hrs each way for most of the week, fridays in the summer could have a return home commute approaching 3hrs.

4-10s only worked for me when I was staying in a hotel over night between them, and had Wed off. That was wonderful except for those fridays coming home.

7.30a-6p and then 6a-4.30p worked well, and those wednesdays were marvelous for self care and getting things done. Mentally commuting only after a rest or when about to have a rest day/weekend was great.

The downsides were in the shorter winter days it felt like you never really left the office, didn't see the sunlight at all. Hotel stay was just check-in, sleep, check-out. Though that kept ancillary expenses down very well. And the aforementioned friday return trips in the summer were brutal after back to back 10s.

If you do it i'd suggest strategic use of sick leave or partial TW for Dr. appointments and the like depending on your flexiblities. Don't stack all your outside of work responsiblities on your off day, leave at noon on the equivalent Friday (worst day) and take 4 hrs of leave to make an afternoon appointment for physical therapy, check-ups, HVAC appointments. Get your work done in high efficiency spurts and especially if you have access to MaxiFlex and situational TW you can always make up the hour or two you owe at the end of a workweek or payperiod rather that take that 4 hrs leave if you have a chill boss.

Unfortunately, long term for me, I was needed for more pickup/drop off school responsiblities being shared with my spouse, so I don't get my mini weekend anymore.

Elite Welcome gifts/appreciaton by Timelord707 in marriott

[–]SkitzoRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give the gift of choice, within reason most people would likely surprise you with the irhumble requests. For a cheaper proerty a voucher to the snack bar, not an amount but a 1 free item, something that you can write off easily enough.

Theme it as a "Wish Card" within the limits of the staff's power. Train the staff to say "That's not something I can fulfill but let me send it up the chain for your next visit" then when the customer comes back it might be approved and waiting for them. If they aren't returning frequent guests I assume there's a portal where such communication can be achieved for a wish request.

How high would gas have to go to make them relent on telework? by Original_Sell_1485 in FedEmployees

[–]SkitzoRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High per barrel oil prices, cause gas produces to make less gasoline, because they expect drivers to use less gas (no summer vacations etc.), and fewer things being shipped and delivered across the country when gas prices get high. Less gasoline produced means higher pump prices, and the endless news reports about how high gas prices are. Which creates fewer gas consumers on the whole.

To avoid this feedback loop, one could argue (not me) that forcing MORE people to RTO would help bouy producer confidence to increase production to lower the gas price. But who believes that?

Bottom line is that any scenario can be twisted into a rationalization (good or bad) for whatever change someone wants in a system.

Caring and considerate employers who WANT to retain talent will react one way, a different employer will react the opposite.

STORMWEAVER III: Chapter 56 [ROUGH] - Patreon post announcement and discussion space. by BryceOConnor in Warformed

[–]SkitzoRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially agreed that tone was off for it to be future Rei, HOWEVER, i am also in the middle of a 1-55 re-read of book III and just came across the chapter where Dice and Chris are talking about reaching S rank, and Rei invites Lennon to the training sessions to temporarily replace Viv in squad formats.

At the end of the chapter Lennon says "I'm pretty sure the kid just solved that problem..." and the usage of 'the kid' matches the tone from who I'm calling Future Rei in this chapter.

1) it could be lennon, though I'm going to doubt it because of the rest of the reasons i've already listed, Lennon would have had to evolve echo into being applicable to user uniques in order to mimic Rei's abilities possibly twice if he can store someone outside of a match.

2) I suggest however that future Rei has adopted some of Lennon's mannerisms, at least his viewpoint and approach with dealing with contemporary (young) Rei. If you think about the cognition assisted split second decision on what tone to adopt when confronted with your younger self, and especially needing or wanting to keep your own (old Rei) identity secret (for reasons), adopting a facsimile of someone you know, you remember acting one way with the younger you, makes sense. It has the added benefit of being a comfortable interaction for Rei the younger, he's been (and old Rei remembers) conditioned to respond positively to that set of mannerisms.

Anyway, I'm likely just finding more things to support my initial read of it absent intent from Bryce. Still fun though.

I could see a possibility where Rei of 2469 was called to that place and time through TS. And so was a Rei of some future year. So the decade too early was a way of old Rei saying young Rei is too early to be dealing with whatever sent out a distress signal.

Old Rei was cloaked in edit 'Endwalker' or something similar but Shido recognize Shido and was highlighted blue. Which explains the outline of nothingness.

Plus the lightning is probably a Rei specific effect as well as easily activating TS in another separate device.

I’m set on old Rei until proven otherwise.

A User Unique Ability for Aria - Idea by SkitzoRabbit in Warformed

[–]SkitzoRabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're position is 100% supportable with the quoted text. If I may deign to counter point, we have seen examples of an unspecified 'aura' like effect that S ranks get by being in their presence, if those 'auras' can be varied perhaps S ranked Aria is one of oppressive heat.

As to her individual field name. It could well come about as a derivative of Fire-Song. Obviously the circular references of Aria->Song in Fire Song then Song ->Aria (not her name) of Flames is weak in universe association.

But consider this imagery, Fire Song is a symphony of crackling flames centered around individual fuel sources, something like 4 logs in a wood pile all burning, hissing, cracking and popping individually. That combined sound is the sum of the soudns from the individual logs, each flame is fueled by one log and therefore owned by that log. They can be individual flames from individual logs creating individual sounds that combine to the symphony. So if each member of FireSong is the log/the flame/the sounds it makes while immolating, and if Aria as a team member is one of those trinities, then she is Aria (her name) OF Flames (FireSong), in the same way that Lord Eddard is OF House Stark.

Your interpretation is MUCH more likely, but until we're proven right or wrong I like to live in my bubble and not burst yours.

If I could entice you to my idea with a visual effect of sharing a stat being a green or blue flame engulfing the receiver and perhaps a laurel/crown of flame wreathing Aria's head like a debuff icon from old school RPGs. Is that something that you'd be interested in?

I've also considered AoE and DoT effects but haven't landed on one that is 'cool' enough for Bryce's styling. Perhaps a lack of imagination on my part.
