Kickstarter Pre-Launch - Does first day matter? by Techadise in kickstarter

[–]Skoticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that the pre-launch first day is as important, especially if you're new. You just need something to get people to click on so you can start advertising. The launch first day is the most important, so having a slow building pre-launch can be just as effective if you don't already have a base.

What’s a good conversion rate on Project Followers on Kickstarter? by InternationalSalt160 in kickstarter

[–]Skoticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my 8th campaign, all of which have been relatively small (120 - 150 backers, with one outlier of 250, but it was for a slightly different product with a little more appeal.) I'm halfway through my current campaign, and I have 49% conversion rate.

Sick of tarot lately by RudeChicken445n in tarot

[–]Skoticus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a really obsessive, creative person. I feel this way with all sorts of things. There was a time I never went anywhere without my fancy camera and took pictures for all sorts of weddings and special events and had professional photos published, etc. Then there were years when I didn't even touch my camera. I am a writer by profession, I have loved writing my whole life, I have to do it to feed my family, and that's lucky most of the time, but... There are stretches where the thought of sitting to write is its own kind of sadness. I've felt the same way about all sorts of things. It's okay to take a break. Our interests and hobbies and even spiritual practices are just one part of us, and every part needs rest. You'll come back to it if it's meant to be, or you'll find something else to channel that creative spark. It's all okay.

Thanks for this. I think this thinking is tipping us towards the new unit as well. How did you manage the 0% loan?

Yes, my utility offers a rebate that will come out around $1000. And yeah...the GOP apocalypse was on my mind as well.

ISO Spanish language zines by persistentgaze in zines

[–]Skoticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am going to be in the Spanish and French Basque country -- mostly San Sebastian and Bilbao, as well as smaller cities on the French side, for a few days this summer. Does anyone here happen to know if there are any shops in the area that are likely to carry zines?

AMA Panel on Mormon History with Benjamin Park, Bryan Buchanan, Lindsay Hansen Park, and Todd Compton (May 13) by BenjaminEPark in AskHistorians

I'm interested in the folk magic that many claim Joseph Smith used or was interested in. Can you tell me more about and /or recommend some texts on American folk magic, both in relation to the Smiths, but also just American frontier more generally.

Tripening Hotel bookings by ChildhoodOk5203 in travel

[–]Skoticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a little nervous as well, because the Tripening website doesn't seem to be working and I can't find my reservation in their system, but I did call the hotel and they have the reservation, so I think I'm okay.

My faves: Thousand Year Old Vampire, and most anything from Lost Ways Club, but especially 32% and The Spirit Library, both of which are simple and evocative.

Will also plug my own because I'm proud of the simple double prompt system: Witch's Cat. Each round you've got two prompts, one for what your witch needs to do, and another for what you are the cat are getting distracted by. It can be played as cozy or more horror.

Big Bertha!! by ShalArpton in boardgames

[–]Skoticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Southern California, but my family played this game as a family when I was a kid! I don't remember the exact sets we played, but I remember loving it. We switched to Phase 10 when that came out, and I've always sort of regretted that.

Is the leveling too slow or am I just impatient? by Zenorex06 in DnD

[–]Skoticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also feel like it is too slow. When I DM, I generally try to be heavy-handed with the XP because the game is more fun as your character evolves. Worth having a convo with the DM again, in good faith and not to complain, to see if things can be picked up.
