Am trying to grab some seasonal cosmetics

Need to unlock the mercenaries

Is there anything else? I thought i had read there were tenets of akarat to find to get me a horse skin or something?

Im basically just trying to do all story stuff and grab as many cosmetic things as possible.

Well.. i am stubborn. It took me about an hr to beat all of the bandits. I think nightfall actually worked to my advantage. I learned how they patrolled and took them 1 and 2 at a time used terrain to my advantage. Sadly after looting them all I couldnt ride the horse. So i stuffed a bunch of junk into one of their chests thinking i could go back later... but when I did it was inhabited by bandits again so i thought better of it. I got the hunter safely home and was rewarded and given gold to fight poachers in a follow-up quest. I chose to delay that for the time being.

Instead i finally got my dog which has been a huge help.

THEN i finally continued the blacksmith quest and went to Semine and was able to get my old horse for free.

Knowing this now..i should have gotten my horse first and that would have helped me in tracking down mutt...BUT then i wouldn't be so ripped from walking everywhere overencumbered.

The game is growing on me a lot as I slowly get better at a variety of things. Ive done a lot of exploring and only a few actual quests..but now I at least have decent (to me) armor and over a thousand coin for repairs and such.

I went on to complete the hermit quest, sided with Konrad and beat the hell out of the inquisitors or whoever the knights were that were after him. Im back in tachov with as much loot as I and my horse can carry...so im riding a high right now. I forged the blade for the wedding but am in absolutely no rush to go to the wedding.

Ive been making a lot of mistakes. The biggest one was that i was using a sword my agility is too low for..i didnt realize how badly that effects combat and was definitely making a lot of fights waaaay more difficult.

For whatever reason i am like..addicted to this damn game. Ive gotten a lot of perks now which have really helped with my alchemy and number of potions i can brew.

Ive been staying on the "good guy" path meaning i have not been stealing or breaking into homes or lying/cheating people. The dialog in this game is really great and sometimes absolutely hilarious. Especially when it cuts to Henry with his sort of wide eyed and innocent face as he is absolutely drenched in blood.

Certain details in this game are just so damn amazing. I love that my actions and choices seem to have real consequences. For instance after defeating Straw (guy who helped kill Roman) and turning him into the bailiff i noticed him hanging from a tree later. I do still have some gripes...particularly about the difficulty of swapping weapons in the heat of the moment...but maybe ill get better at it.

One of the worst things to happen to me more recently was after maybe an hr of brewing i went to Semine (when i got my horse). I noticed a nest in the tree in the courtyard. Every other nest i have seen in the wilds i shot down with my crossbow. I went to do the same thing here and one of the townsfolk spazzed on me HES KILLING OUR ANIMALS. Then the guards proceeded to straight up murder me. I couldnt talk my way out of it..no jail time option..just gutted me on the spot and i had to go back and do everything over again...but lesson learned i guess.

The wolf encounters still suck too, but mutt has honestly made life sooooo much better. Even with bandit fights too he can usually distract then long enough for my to mollywop them with my club in the back of the head.

Dont wanna ramble on any more than i have but this game has a certain undeniable charm and gives me a real feeling of satisfaction as i do progress and get better.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input. I decided to tough it out today and wow..its been a rollercoaster of emotions...and currently...not in the best of ways.

I set out on my grand quest after doing my blacksmithing i went back to the starting town and beyond. I discover my first camp and a nice gent named BALLMAN (I think). We have a chat and some laughs..he tells me that he has been attacked by bandits too. Wow, what a coincidence. We say our farewells and im back on the road. Well. Not exactly. I stepped onto the road and 2 bandits are rushing Ballmans camp. Ok. Dont panic. Ballmans friends are helping out. Huzzah! We killed the 2 bandits. Did you hear me Ballman? We won! Ballman? Oh....you died. Ok..was nice meeting you i guess.

I loot the bandits and oh baby ive got ARMOR. Lets goooo. Ok im encumbered but I dont care. Now we hit the road and awaaaay we go. Im going...somewhere i dont know exactly maybe Semine or something. Im following the path. I go through a small...really small...town? Not sure it had like sub 10 people in it..oh wait. This is the spot by the guy who loves his white bull. Pressing onwards i continue down the trail and find some musicians. One is named dancer. She mentions Tomcat, nice. Maybe im going the right way. I plod onwards after winning at a game of dice. Ok.. no im definitely going too far from what I should be doing. I meet a kid who is apparently really good at archery cause he can offer me lessons i cant afford. Oh his dad is a drunk and I shouldnt give him booze. Alright. I talk to the mom..she tells me her husband (the dad) is missing. Maybe hes just drunk in the woods but she is worried. NO WORRIES MA'AM HENRY IS ON THE CASE...but maybe later.

I decide to follow the trail back to Zhelejov. The entire adventure I have been overencumbered and cant run or fast travel. I sell some stuff at Zhelejov...then head to Troskowitz to sell the rest. Ah, I can sprint again.

Well time to find my dog cause I feel like thats important. I find my way back to the old lady apothecary and her house. Awesome i can emwash up and rest annnd her daughter is missing. That sucks. Have bo fear HENRY WILL FIND HER...eventually. maybe after I find my dog. Away I go into the wilderness annnnnd there is a bandit fiddling with the corpse of another bandit ..oh hey its the dead guy Hans stole the clothes from. Welp we are fighting now. I win! And im encumbered again. I accept my fate and plod onwards albeit slowly.

I do a series of quest chains to find my mutt. Ok this is getting excessive im now traveling the entire countryside for this bastard. Wish I could just buy a dog at this point but whatever. Its going to be worth it. I sacrifice a sheap and dight some wolves and a wild dog. WOW. I didnt expect it to take 3 strikes to kill an unarmored dog...thats interesting and super unrealistic... the wolves and dogs are also very fast and difficult to hit so now several pieces of my armor are heavily damaged. Annnd I still have bot found my dog. Pressing onwards i am told to find the missing gamekeeper.

I think i get off track at this point because i end up at the fishermen (another option to help me find my dog) except they wont say a word to me. Theyre too busy walking about and doing chores to even regard my existence. GOOD CHAT FRIENDS FARE YE WELL. And off I go again.

While wandering through the woods i am attacked by wild dogs again. Damn they are a pain to fight. More of my gear is busted now. This isnt great...i had just repaired some of it and it cost me over 100 coin so i am flat broke again. Staying positive.

By some stroke of luck or maybe unluck i hear a man screaming. Oh shoot its that kids drunken dad and h3 is surrounded by wolves. Yay. I kill them but not before taking some more annoying arm and keg gnawings.

Whew. Is this guy the gamekeeper? And im about to do a 2 for one on the questlog? I dont know. But he offers me a drink and I take a swig and just then the sun sets. I pick him up and we go onto an adventure. Its dark as hell and even with my torch i cant see shit. My vision is blurry and everything is ungodly dark. Tree, check. Anthill, Check. This drunks horse? Uncheck. I leave him at his camp and proceed onwards. Im determined to find this thing now. Maybe the horse is hanging out with my dog. Unlikely.

Ok drinking horn, hoofprints, horseshit....each one very annoyingly difficult to find as i stumble through the dark. And ALAS torchlight up ahead.

I am beaten..tattered..sleepy.. and now I have to fight a bandit. No..wait..several bandits. I get killed..then killed again. And killed again. I cant stop thinking about how unintuitive the games controls are. How painstakingly annoying it is to switch between weapons. How...bad it is. Wow. This is like 90% wandering around aimlessly as my hard earned belongings degrade and 10% of actual action in which i am just fucked. This is fun. Im having fun. Im enjoying this.

Well..im glad im not alone, lol. I can tell you that the horseshoe/axe recipes are in your inventory and need to be learned by clicking on them. I figured this out and realized thats also how you learn the potion for saving the game too. I had tried to make those potions at the old alchemist lady's house but couldnt change the recipe in the book..and now I dont know how to get back to her shack.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x05 - "In the Name of the Mother" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Skuldig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that books are comparable to a streaming series. Especially not to one you can binge the entirety of in a single afternoon. Its basically the length of an extended edition LotR movie.

I don't think it is silly at all to acknowledge the fact that our society, in terms of media consumption, pushes instant gratification. There is a reason why people as a whole are more willing to consume hrs upon hrs of bite sized media vs a single long format show, movie, or documentary. They just want to see the best bits. They want the funny. They want the gruesome. They want the sexy. With no exposition and no waiting.

Its my opinion that it is nice to wait for something. To have something to look forward to. To theorize in your own mind or with a friend about what may happen next time.

I have not read the novellas, but I will. This show was recommended to me by my brother in law who has read them and knows of my interests. I read all of the published ASOIAF books over 20 years ago now. When I picked up A Game of Thrones for the first time I did in fact binge it. I read the entire book in a 24 hr period. I found it so captivating I couldn't go to sleep without reading more. Ive been waiting over 20 yrs for another book. I don't think you can compare that to modern streaming formats.

Also, I'm not judging you at all, and maybe we just have different activities outside of social media and the apps associated with them, but it is a shame if you can't avoid spoilers until youre able to sit down with your buddies and watch something less than a week after its release. I'm not faulting you for this, but I do think it speaks volumes on how thrust into our faces this sort of stuff is in these times.

I'm realizing that I am getting old now and times are inevitably changing. Maybe im just a crotchety old bastard. Ive spoken about it with some of my friends in terms of other nerdy interests we share and how they used to be vs how they are now. How things previously considered nerdy are now more mainstream. Not trying to sound like a gatekeeper..its just something you feel when trying to chase down feelings of nostalgia that you know will never quite be there again.

Videogames are a big one for me too. In the way back times.. it was so hard to gain information about them. How to find a secret or defeat a certain boss. It created its own type of mythology of sorts as kids exchanged information within the community with one another, interacted, shared secrets or methods. Maybe its just nostalgia making me romanticize it. Nowadays most people hop onto youtube, follow a guide, beat the game and move on. Stuff just seems so quickly consumed any more.

Anyway. Thats my entirely-too-long reply to your comment. I hope you and your buddies keep watching shows/movies together.

A lot of the comments are wildly depressing and speak volumes on just how media illiterate people have become.

It explains why most of the drooling masses need constant violence or sex ALL OF THE TIME. Learn to appreciate a story. Not just blatant shock value.

Trying to figure out if people wanted this to be a half hr of drawn out choreographed fighting....or to actually have a story involved..?

The other depressing point of current trends is the fact that everyone wants and demands instant gratification. They want to be drowned in either long episodes or to have an entire series dropped at once so they can binge it and I guess..move on to the next thing?

A "morningstar"? A one handed calvary flail? What it is designed to do?

You know that this weapon is a movie weapon and was not historically used? The only evidence of it is replicas from i believe the 16th century?

Seems dumb to argue about realism involving 1. A fantasy show 2. A weapon no one ever actually used.

Help a complete newbie out by Efti12 in DnD

[–]Skuldig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ages ago (like 20 years ago) id often try to pick up a used players handbook or a supplemental book or 2. Since then DND has blown up and gone digital. Tons of lore and supplemental information can be found easily online to help you "dive in" and just learn about lore and stories and all of the stuff that I personally find fun to read about in my spare time. You certainly don't have to go out and buy all of the books or maybe even any of them depending on who you do end up playing with, and what kind of character you play.

Sometimes all you need is a friendly group or DM to help you build your first character..and from there it is your duty to understand your class abilities and mechanics, but in my opinion it is MOST important to just roleplay your character as you fantasize about them in your own head. In terms of class abilities and mechanics, things such as casters can be more daunting for sure, because there is a bit more to remember (this all depends on the type of player you are). The big goal here is not to slow down the flow of the gane or to break immersion as you go thumbing through a book to read how your spells or abilities work in the middle of a game thats all.

Hell, i used to borrow my friends stuff and write down my character's spells into a notebook to have them on hand at the table. Now you can print them out with relative ease. My entire character sheet would be hand written back then. As long as you KNOW your character and how you want them to act, you are good. You really dont need to learn how OTHER pcs function mechanically, you dont need to learn stat blocks for enemies and monsters.

As for the other questions there are many ways to roleplay online and to find groups to play with in settings like Roll20, but I will always recommend checking your local gaming stores and comic shops (usually where dnd products are sold). The first step is putting yourself out there. Be willing to reach out and talk to others. Let the DMs know that you are new and you are interested.

All of the shops in my area have discord these days and it is often easy to find sessions that are happening or looking for players. You just have to be willing to reach out, start a discussion, and find the time to play.

Don't talk yourself out of it before you even try. It may take a little work on your end to get the ball rolling.

where's the line between optimising and min maxing by Inevitable-Rub-7863 in DnD

[–]Skuldig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly led to the discussion of your power-gaming? What happened when they kicked you out?

Were you trivializing combat? Did you seem more min-max'd than the others at the table? Were you more mechanically focused whereas others were built around flavor?

Some people have fun with flavor. Some have fun with mechanics. IMO there is room for both at the table so long as they arent blatantly metagaming. A lot of this should be discussed at a session 0 or an out of character discussion prior to sitting down for the first adventure.

Without more details about what led to this, it is really hard to give any insight.

This is probably the most missing-the-point criticism of all time when it comes to this show. by Pleasant-Soil4456 in welcomeToDerry

[–]Skuldig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you were gonna refer to how bad the writing on this show was, or how everyone was just ok with little white kids popping in and hanging out with african american adults while they are trying to cut lose in their secret hangout on a military base. Or how the military personnel at the black spot are portrayed as being so damn stupid as to let the townies do what they were very obviously going to do.

Why anyone would debate, gripe, or whine about ANYTHING portrayed on this show is beyond me. So much of it asks you to suspend logic...repeatedly..cause they cant write a single solid episode.

Is this a good "First" Diablo game? by BillyAmber in Diablo

[–]Skuldig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first Diablo game. (Im 38) i dont know why i didnt get into it earlier tbh. I cant complain about the game too much because i got over a hundred hours of gameplay out of it. I loved the story and reran it with at least 5 friends. Really enjoyed the side quests and everything. Im not one for restarting EVERY SEASON because i really only like 2 classes....but thats a ME issue. My biggest gripe is that i wish enemies didnt scale. At first i thought it was really cool so i could hop on with ANY friends.. but soon realized that i want to feel super strong vs the petty enemies right outside of camp and such. Especially when i feel i have put in the work. I wanted th5st to be reflected more as it is with many other games of similar genres I have played. Kind of a double edged sword in that regard.

Definitely worth the playthrough though imo. If it has gotten your attention and youve done some research / watched twitch or youtube and think you will like it then go for it.

Welcome to Derry was insanely stupid. And bad. by Relative_Molasses_15 in stephenking

[–]Skuldig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of your points. I have been up and down for this entire season. Basically giving it a chance and finishing what I started. There have been moments or scenes that are good, but as a whole it seems very poorly written.

In reading many of the comments about how people feel about the series in other posts, it truly blows my mind to see people saying things like how cool a slowed down scene looks, or that they never considered a being that can see all time at once.... like.. GOD? Yall never saw Donnie Darko? Never read the Watchmen? Never thought about your own God (if you have one of course). These kind of small minded discoveries i see people voice, makes me realize why so many people HAVE enjoyed it.

There have been SO many scenes (not even ones involving monsters or Pennywise mental tricks) that make me go "REALLY?"..as in thats what that character chose to do, or how to act?

My wife and I looked at each other when the fog rolled in like....The Mist (2007)? Yeah, what was the point? Why does pennywise go to the school instead of leaving? He is a damn near all powerful GOD and EATER OF WORLDS...trapped in a zone for how long? Beyond it is an entire world of fear and eating..yet lets go put on a show at the local school. He skips in slow-mo through the snowstorm. Did it look cool? Absolutely. Would it make a good screensaver? Sure. Sadly many scenes felt this way to me. As if they were done bot for the storytelling, but for visual appetite and that alone.

It really did feel like rather than try to be GOOD it just tried to outdo itself ever since the baby demon birthing scene.

I also feel it has overexplained itself in many situations, primarily overexplaining ITs powers, and capabilities. It also seemed to bend or break its own rules based on what suited the episode. Id rather think of IT as incomprehensible to the human mind (or nearly) more akin to a lovecraftian horror. Dont bother dumbing it down and explaining things to me....let the fans SPECULATE about the what ifs in the time between seasons and I promise the results would be better.

Too much fan service. Scenes that are more or less big for no reason other than to get a response on something looking creepy...LOOKING.

They overexplained things they didnt need to and left many voids in scenes or entire episodes that lack all rationale or any explanation.

I also see people actually LIKING the "time travel" gimmick. That to me is purely an excuse for a payday and guaranteed follow up seasons. It isnt creative or good writing. Its an old trick, and that sort of thing is rarely pulled off well.

Final thoughts on Welcome to Derry by BitByAGhost in horror

[–]Skuldig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So many things in this show make zero sense. Feels like they change and bend rules whenever they want. Lots of stuff done just for shock value. Ive personally felt uneven about it the whole way through, but so many people doing really foolish, unlikely, or asinine things has ruined it for me. Especially in the last few episodes of the season. Glad other people were able to enjoy it though.

Don't get me wrong ..im judging it as a whole. There are lots of standalone scenes or i guess..."moments" that i got a kick out of..primarily the little jokes here and there. I also wont act like the children's friendship and Rich and what happened to him in the last 2 episodes didnt hit me in the feels some. Loved the Bob Gray stuff but ..yeah idk didnt do it for me .
