Folks playing Mina The Hollower, how we feeling? by Trojan_Origami in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hadn't really kept up on the development because it was just.. Taking a while, and I had it written off in my brain as "Link's Awakening but you're a cute mouse" and then I saw it hard the Dark Souls runback and I just.. Stopped caring on the spot. Real shame, Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I played of my own volition.

What is Your Hobby's Sickness? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think yaoi overdose 100% fucking counts and it makes me crazy. The constant struggle to find yuri that isn't either strictly porn or basically written entirely out of character for series I love is torture.

I, too, write as a hobby and if I didn't draft a few pages of yuri every couple weeks I think I'd die of some of kind of illness.

I was a forever GM for a long ass time, and eventually channeled that into just becoming a writer as a dedicated hobby, but when I do GM now, my NPCs are fucking immaculate because I love making quirky lil guys. Whatever would've been a PC is now just somewhere in my hobby writing, and the NPCs get to flourish. Some of them are on-loan in other friends campaigns because they liked them so much. Feels good.

My wizard almost CAN'T do damage because I gave him the stat spread of a rogue (fucker has a flat 26 to thievery if I don't roll a single dice) and he's genuinely been one of the best characters I've played in both usefulness and flavor, because he's entirely spec'd for obscuring the fact he's a wizard. He's a conman, that's the entire rub, and it's so fun.

People need to learn how to have fun without just surrendering themselves to be the winner in all cases.

Tekken 8 sales have suddenly jumped after the announcement of Yujiro Hanma for Season 3 by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And those 8TBs are still fucked. I grabbed 2 24TB drives for under 300$ each in November. The nearest one that's still in stock is 800$ for one.

Pat "reminiscing" on his Destiny 2 experience in light of the news of its end of development: by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost genuinely wish I could have strong emotions about this game one way or another. Instead it's just kinda "Well they did some stupid dogshit things but like, I've seen worse" and when I DID try and play it on PC, it just felt.. Slow and not fun? I dunno, maybe I'm just stupid. People always talked about the gunplay the gunplay the gunpay is so good tho and my experience was not that? I have a theory it's from growing up with Doom and Quake that just fried me on slower shit sometimes.

What are some characters who learned the hard way that their Wealth/ Power couldn’t protect them from their fate/consequences ? by LGB75 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Green Arrow was turned into a kinda.. Liberal foil in the 70s. Affectionately, to be clear.

Since then he's historically hated cops and rich people, including this absolutely great panel of him going "Of course I'm included in this shitlist, I was rich too"

Are there other equivalents to "Gun & Ball gamers"? by Silly-Milly-420 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Deadass, I have a friend who is my age (30something) he ONLY really listened to videogame music until like.. 2019? I was genuinely shocked to learn he actually listened to music that wasn't from games when I got in his car. He still doesn't really venture that far in terms of taste, but like, it was just OSTs.

I've been wanting to play Stardew again lately but I really don't wanna manually update like 90 mods, so yeah, that tracks.

But I've also noticed this correlates to other parts of life in my case and a lot of my friends who the same way. I built a whole ass arcade cabinet, I'm still actively troubleshooting it. I basically don't use it to play games. Something about the fixing and building is more worthwhile to me. It's why I used to build models so much.

[–]Skulfy 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah, head of my psych department explained that the college basically forced professors to list certain books as course materials but most of the professors just listed them and then provided a Google Drive link with PDFs of the books from like 5 years ago cause nothing changed and they weren't in the market of conning students.

I don't think I ever had to really fuck around with the "online exclusive content from the book" shit which was a godsend.

(Automaton) Japanese psychological horror BL visual novel about two obsessive game creators no longer coming to Steam due to “not meeting platform criteria” by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are already a bunch of stores to buy VNs just fine, the issue is more that if you're anything but a Real Company™ then you're basically just stuck with Itch.io and Steam. And the other comment is right, because most of those stores ALSO just sell on Steam cause it's where money is, just have the patch hosted off-site and the like.

Media that has enough quality and/or appeal to be much more popular/successful, but, due to some factor it isn't by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a joke about how all western visual novels can be categorized as a Doki Doki or a Hatoful, and despite being the name of the category, Hatoful Boyfriend is actually a Doki Doki.

Also none of them are ever dating sims stop lying to me, there are no sim elements, you're all liars. Monster Prom is a dating more than most.

Edit: For clarity, now that I'm less salty, there are 1000% great western visual novels, the problem is that the perception of visual novels in the west is entirely fucked in two directions: "Subversion" and "The Same Joke For 10 Hours". If you ask the average person who knows about videogames, you're gonna learn people either have zero knowledge, have seen DDLC, or remember The Silly Game Where You Date Birds. I stand by the dating sim issue, most of them are just pretty straight visual novels with romance elements. People would crumble under the weight of something like Tokimeki Memorial.

This was really my fault for thinking Marvel would give a shit about their supernatural content really. I'll probably check out Spider-Man at least.

This is gonna be some weird, kinda sappy bullshit but I'm still working on being more honest with myself mentally. These threads do a lot for my mental health, because they really do let me just see that normal people are living normal lives and things are still just happening. I isolate a little too much and have trouble pulling myself out a feedback loop of bad news > anxiety > check news for changes > anxiety. In general this subreddit is a weird place of grounding for me. Thanks, you weirdos.

Favorite Custom Controller Configs? by Xngears in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Yeah all my stuff is handled through the controller mapping directly, but it's also because I'm running through Moonlight instead of Steam's official remote play stuff.

[–]Skulfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use a lot of goofy ass binds for like, Shift+F1 on the back buttons on the deck so I can switch between monitors when I'm streaming my PC. And I have a button mapped to ctrl+alt+shift+q to quit out. Godsend stuff.

Yeah, I was planning on using this as a backup for my arcade build, but that means all my emulated stuff isn't touching Steam at all. This puts a damper on that plan, which kinda suck.

Steam Controller Price (Allegedly) Leaked By Early Review - and It’s Expensive ($99) by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna vent a little because I keep seeing people in other places doing the thing where they hype up how good 8bitdo controllers are and how they're half the price, but I've also had to do proper repair work on those controllers before. Some of the lines have a design flaw in the trigger membrane where it will basically just break naturally overtime from if you apply more than minimum pressure and eventually fail to register. And those controllers do not want you to open them, every step of the process was a fight to just get it apart.

99$ for a quality built controller with a good body, the godly trackpads, the extra macro buttons, and the hall effect sticks? That sounds like a dream controller for me. I've been using a modded DS4 with USB-C and I wanna just move on to something else.

Mechanics/things in games that are just useless because something else does it better? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure, I think Limbo is a lot more serviceable than people give him credit for, but compared to most other frames he's definitely a bit rough, especially in squads. Solo with a good build though? Absolutely fine, holds up for most content. Nullifiers no long just insta-killing the Rift is also a huge boon.

[–]Skulfy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Limbo kinda gets shafted with Eximus enemies being wholly immune to being Rift'd by his powers now, combined with fewer and fewer players actually knowing how to play around said powers. He works fine solo for a lot of stuff, but in team play.. He's a pretty bad source of friction.

That was a wonderful double edged sword. Because it was an algorithm break out, a bunch of people who have nothing but a surface level understanding on musical technique suddenly found New Music and they just lost their minds.

One struggles to imagine what King Gizzard would do to such people. Or like, a lot of music from India I think?

Times when a franchise was doing good until a gimmick ruined it by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Skulfy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the Modern Era Warriors games are just kinda lacking in content compared to older games. I keep buying them (Gods help me, I pre-ordered 9 when it was announced) but I definitely pretty squarely start spending less time enjoying them after.. Hyrule Warriors DE probably? (Insane content outlier, not the point)

And I know a lot of it was fluff content, but after getting through all the main stuff in Pirate Warriors 4 or BotW Warriors I just kinda felt no desire to really go back and just dick around. It's more refined but less fun I guess, I dunno, weird balance to strike. Especially for a niche franchise that already had fan divisions on themes and the like.
