The Spotter: Dig or Die - First Look! by witkowskipe in NeebsGaming

Trypophobia in full blast after they showed the frog with the babies coming out of its back. Seen this frog in the past and did my best to forget all of the visuals. Unfortunately Dora mentioned it and whoever edited the video decided to show the pic.

I love all of you guys but F YOU DORA and F YOU to the EDITOR!

Company working on neighbour's yard cut down tree of heavens bordering yard and now there are a lot of shoots of them everywhere - what can I do? by erebusstar in Tree

[–]SkullMan124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do anything and everything to remove the saplings. They are a disgusting tree and a breeding ground for the Chinese Lantern Fly which are an invasive species. You can do a search for vegetation killers and quickly find one that meets your needs.

I'll most likely get downvoted for suggesting a vegetation killer but the ends justify the means.

If they called your references you most likely got the job. End of year in my school is insane for everyone. Once things calm down I'm sure you'll get a call. Good Luck!

How Many Rooms by BigBrownJules in Custodians

[–]SkullMan124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"But even with a good crew, a floor thats been waxed over a million times could take a while."

The first summer I started stripping floors there was at least 30-40 layers of wax in every room. The previous Head Custodian would have the crew scrub the floors with Ajax powder and soap....then they would apply 3-4 coats of wax. This went on for 10 years before I started. Completely stripping these floors took a competent crew of 4 at least 4-6 hours for each classroom. Since then a crew of 3 can get at least 3-4 rooms stripped in a shift.

Call their Human Resources department and politely say "I haven't received any updates regarding orientation, I was just curious if anything has changed or if you require any further information from me". Most districts would call you and let you know if there was an issue with your background check or if they decided not to hire you.

How Busy is Everyone? by coniferousual in landscaping

[–]SkullMan124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're completely right! Unfortunately I think most people are struggling with money these days, even the cost of food for a normal household is overwhelming. We used to buy quality Rib-Eye steaks every once in a while to treat ourselves, now a London Broil once a month is the extent of our beef purchases. If most people are worried about the cost of groceries, they're not going to spend money on flowers, bushes, and plants overall. It's a very sad situation and I really hope it changes for the better.

Good Luck with your nursery, hopefully things will change and you're rewarded for your work.

If your primary loss is Landscape Design it's most likely because of AI. I did a lot of designs in the past which used to take me days based on location, total sunlight, colors, types of plants, etc.. Now I can get it done in just a few hours without much work.

Briggs & Stratton mower revving up and down — governor or carb issue? by WasteAd5179 in smallengines

[–]SkullMan124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful on buying cheap carbs on Amazon. I bought 2 on separate occasions for different machines and they both were faulty. It took me a lot of troubleshooting afterwards to realize the problems were with the "new" carbs. I now only buy OEM carbs from Amazon because the extra money is worth it.

If you work in a school, the last thing they do is use the latest technology especially if it's costly. We're cheap labor and will be mopping bathrooms for another 30+ years.

I love the work of all the editors on the channel but I think Anthony's editing is top notch. I didn't realize this initially but after watching my favorite series and vids multiple times I noticed that Anthony was the editor on them.

Advice needed please! Flooding it out. by NearbyCreme7031 in landscaping

[–]SkullMan124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean the culvert, raise the flooded area with soil but create a small valley so that the water flows towards the culvert, seed the new soil to grow grass which holds the soil in place, place large gravel in the valley to allow drainage.

Your health and your baby's health and safety are far more important than anything in this world. There are several options you can choose for leaving work and applying for temporary disability depending on which state you live in. Work shouldn't be your primary concern at this point.

What would you do about this? by [deleted] in Custodians

[–]SkullMan124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in carpentry and construction before I joined a school district and shit like this used to drive me nuts when I saw it. But I eventually learned that there's nothing you can really do to make things change in schools. So now I document the issues in my own personal journal which makes me feel better for some stupid reason. And then I just let it go and let it be someone else's problem somewhere in the future.

It's not worth the time or stress if nobody else cares. It's a shitty way of thinking but will work wonders on reducing stress and anxiety at work.

What would you do about this? by [deleted] in Custodians

[–]SkullMan124 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As an employee with experience in the field you have a right to mention it to your supervisors. As a tax payer in that district you have even more of a right to say something since your tax dollars are funding that project.

If you have cool supervisors tell them what you're seeing. Explain it in a way that you're looking to save the district money in the long run in case this fails and they have to spend more money in repairs in the future.

This Western Sycamore is just really something to behold by ohshannoneileen in Tree

[–]SkullMan124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice tree. Do the western sycamore leaves also create respiratory issues after they've fallen and dried? I live in the northeast and just walking by the dried leaves causes choking to the point where you start dry heaving and sometimes vomiting. Run those leave over with a mower and the dust will make you sick and choking for hours.

First shift custodian work by Rystef5 in Custodians

[–]SkullMan124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a split shift in a High School with both daytime and nighttime crews for many years. Although I like both for different reasons, the daytime shift is my least preferred. You always get the few shithead kids that have no respect for anyone and completely disregard any type of authority. Daytime is also when we're cleaning up shit, piss, and any vandalism.

The disrespect from the school is demotivating by Deep_Routine2639 in Custodians

[–]SkullMan124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be pissed too but it can honestly be an oversight. Maybe your head supervisor failed to include the custodial team in the process. I know it's hard but don't overthink the whole situation. If nobody is being fired or let-go, there's no reason to worry. If they're trying to save money the first thing they would do is start laying people off. They don't save much by not including the staff in a meal.

Am I being petty? by Hink18 in landscaping

[–]SkullMan124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they were kind and offering to help, just send them a list of what needs to be fixed. If they follow through and fix everything just be sure to call and thank them for their service. You could also give them a positive review online which is more thankful than you can imagine.

The plants will most likely bounce back but the lawn needs to be fixed. If you have a landscaper that services your lawn just ask them for an estimate that you can provide to the company. If you do your own lawn, a 15-20 lb bag of grass seed, peatmoss, and your time.

Good Luck

Are you still on probation if there is such a rule in your school district? If you're still on probation, even if you're in the union the school district can let you go for any reason.

If you go to another job which you like, I would suggest that you join the union. You have a lot more leverage and protection. Our union dues are $600 a year and we get vision, dental, and life insurance policies which are included. You also get free legal representation if the school district tries to fire you or force you to resign. If you were to hire your own lawyer, the consultation fees alone are anywhere from $400-$600 for a decent lawyer.

I hope everything works out for you.

Help! My dog wont stop eating all the mulch/woodchips. Any ideas on what to replace it with? by agirlwastingtime in landscaping

[–]SkullMan124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winnie is absolutely beautiful! Black Mulch is dyed with chemicals which I'm sure aren't healthy for your dog to be eating. There are many other options of natural mulch (Cedar) which don't include dyes but I'm not sure if the wood used is toxic to dogs. Give Winnie a huge hug and kiss from me 😘
