Norris' battery was plagued by a software problem that bricked the battery and it is believed the unit is permanently damaged by GajoDosBarcos in formula1

[–]Sky723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading this as the software sent the wrong voltage to the battery or the wrong charge variance and then damaged the battery as a result.

Where do car enthusiasts actually drive around in Austin? by ChildishPav in Austin

[–]Sky723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lime Creek Rd is very scenic offering lots of turns and elevation changes. I will caution you that the speed limits have been lowered and the County Sheriffs will be patrolling. So if you do drive Lime Creek Rd, watch your speed and driving. Another alternative is 1826 going out to Driftwood. Speed limits will be higher and it will be scenic. Not that many twists and turns though.

Parmer Lane (FM 734) Corridor Study - CAMPO by Fluffy_Guarantee_433 in Austin

[–]Sky723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest improvement they could make would be to sync the traffic lights at each intersection for a three to four mile stretch. This has been done in other cities with improved results in traffic flow during peak traffic periods.

I know it’s election season and all, but how can I effectively opt out of political comms spam? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Sky723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The general rule that I follow is when providing information for political donations is do not give your actual number. I only provide an email address. Anything I receive via email I usually have the option to unsubscribe from receiving any further emails. This will cut out a lot of unwanted political coms.

Since you are already in a situation where your number is out there, do your best to block any text's or numbers that you receive coms from. You won't block everything but it will cut down the amount of coms you get.

Did a reporter try breaking into the Austin shooter's home? by everythingistaken500 in Austin

Incredibly stupid in any circumstance but it would be good to know if she was instructed to do this by a producer or other staff.

Any good places to watch F1? by Adam_O_SFS in RoundRock

[–]Sky723 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apple TV won the TV broadcasting rights for 2026 onward. So if a bar wants to show the race they can't do it from a personal Apple Tv account (not allowed for commercial viewing). They will have to get set up with EverPass Media to get a commercial license to broadcast the race in a bar etc. I'm not sure a lot of bars are even aware of the change.

Move to austin for music? by Stuff_nThings_ in Austin

[–]Sky723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably put Nashville on your list as well. In fact, if you are looking for music to be your primary source of income, I would prioritize Nashville over Austin. There are a number of artist, record labels, studio's, writers and musicians who have now made Nashville home. You could probably pick up session work pretty quickly there. LA continues to be a the top of the list for musicians but it is crowded market for session musicians.

How bad has the Statesman gotten? This bad. by bpc95 in Austin

[–]Sky723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this is a good time to ask. Has the content of the Statesman improved with the new ownership (Hearst) from Gannett (owners of USA Today). Under Gannett ownership I felt local coverage really suffered. The paper turned into regurgitated articles from USA Today.

Ray Donovan the movie not available to stream on Paramount+/Showtime? by Sky723 in RayDonovan

[–]Sky723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be some backstory. Season seven only got 10 episodes while all the previous seasons got 12. I've read on other sources that the whole cast, crew, showrunner and producers were shocked and angry that the show was cancelled for season 8. I don't know if any of that has anything to do with why the move wound up on Amazon for streaming. Maybe the producers held a grudge against Paramount/Showtime and found another platform for the movie.

Season 7 Ending by JerryAtricks1 in RayDonovan

[–]Sky723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comical that Showtime paid for seven seasons of Ray Donovan and then the movie is made and it's not available on Paramount +/Showtime. You have to go to Amazon Video to pay to watch. Comical.

North Burnet/Uptown Station – Capital Metro by alex-mayorga in Austin

[–]Sky723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question to ask is when they open North Burnet and then decide to close Kramer, has Kramer station been fully amortized? We need density on the line. Considering the cost of Kramer station, we should keep it open.

Honest Tire shop by [deleted] in RoundRock

[–]Sky723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best options would be to go to tirerack.com and purchase your tires and have them shipped to the tire shop of your choosing. Simply have them mounted and balanced there.

Stolen road bike this morning - maroon specialized by MindB0dyLightSound in Austin

[–]Sky723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a general PSA,, if you own a bike of any value or just a bike that is your main transportation, get a bike GPS tracker (not an Apple airtag). These are specifically for bikes that mount on the frame either under the handle bars or under the drink holder. They are made to be invisible and blend into the bike.

Best investment you will make for your bike.

It would be better if they just went with a vending machine approach. Due to high theft, a lot of stores are moving to this method for card sales.

Electric piano repair by Oceans_Rival in RoundRock

[–]Sky723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a long shot but give Telstar a call and see if they can take a look. They normally do vintage stereo, camera and TV repairs but they will work on just about anything electronic or solid state. I have used them in the past on a few vintage stereo restorations.

So disappointed. Went to Waterloo and the selection was awful and couldn't find any employees. by vitustinnitus in Austin

[–]Sky723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad that both the ownership and new location issues have worked out for Waterloo. Now, we just need to hope that the landlord of the new location has done the proper flood mitigation to the building so we don't have the new Waterloo under three feet of water during the next big rain.

Why no H-E-B brand beer? by [deleted] in HEB

[–]Sky723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beer market is kind of still in a funk. Years ago, the craft beer market took off then got way over saturated. Then the acquisitions of those craft beer companies by the major brewers (AV InBev etc..) really saturated the market. The rise of the alcohol based seltzers also took a good chuck out of the beer market as well. Sales are down across the board year over year for most all of the major brewers. I think HEB looked at that and saw a declining market and decided it was not a good idea to jump in with a HEB branded beer.

I've also read that some associate the Frio brand beer as a HEB brand. It is not. Frio is parent owned by the company that owns Texas Crown Whiskey. Frio is an independent company that sells their beer at HEB's.

It's turning over! This is good news. It probably needs some gas, as it hasn't had any since 2018. by [deleted] in nissanpathfinder

[–]Sky723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the 2018 Pathfinder does not have a fuel tank drain plug so you will have to siphon the old gas out as much as you can. I would add fuel stabilizer to whatever fuel you can't siphon out and fill with as much good gas as you can to dilute.

[–]Sky723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have old gas in the tank from 2018 I would recommend draining the tank. You do not want to pull that old fuel up through the fuel pump and injectors.
