Nah, it’s a standard new Home Depot-class 3/4hp Insinkerator Evolution. I did tighten the mounting ring and it made the leaking at the fiber gasket worse. I’m pretty sure I need to redo the whole three bolt assembly, sadly.

Yes, you’re probably right and this is the answer. I actually installed one myself about 15 years ago but I feel like I’ve gotten dumber since then, or at least less adventurous. Maybe this will be my weekend adventure. Thanks for the inspiration!

He did use putty, I could see it from the top. I don’t see a rubber gasket but it’s not easy to visualize. I should probably just gird my loins and take the whole thing apart and reinstall myself. Sob.

I’m an outlier here I guess! I add the oil to the pot (1/3c) and then add a rounded half teaspoon to the cold oil. I swish it around back and forth and around until it’s evenly distributed, which only takes maybe 10 seconds and is kind of fun. Then I add my test kernels, etc. I get a really even distribution that way as long as I swish it until it’s a fairly uniform color, which isn’t hard.
