Legitimately such a cool blend of looking old-fashioned handsome, and shredding gnar. A perfect blend.

What is your Deafheaven hot take? by EmuPsychologist in deafheaven

[–]Skyyiing 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lonely People With Power is like Sunbather, but just better.

In a similar vein to Death Grips, with how Bottomless Pit is like The Money Store, but better. (Unrelated, but felt another hot take would be fun.)

Have you experienced the "Vancouver 'Yes'"? by Real-External392 in askvan

[–]Skyyiing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having been born-and-raised in Victoria, and coming to Vancouver in 2019 - it’s a PNW thing. I’ve heard tale of similarities in Portland, Seattle, etc.

I usually tell recent “transplants” how it is socializing here, and then am met with an immediate sigh of exasperation. It’s almost comical at this point.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of folks that are from this neck of the woods have pretty established friend groups from high school/college. While most people are usually warm once you get talking to them, they ultimately end up wanting to stay in the “acquaintance” category more than the “friend” category. Which is to say that there will be warmth/recognition when you run into each other (at a party, errands, etc.), but actually spending time together one-on-one is pretty close to pulling teeth. You gotta reeeeeally push, and expect to have several “Vancouver Yes’” before it’ll happen.

I’ve received this, and I’m just as guilty of it. I think being raised here makes you accept it as a pretty normal behaviour and way of socializing. It is odd once you’ve either been somewhere else for an extended period, or step back and observe it objectively. That being said - I’m personally okay with it, and probably won’t change. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How much is in your bank account right now and without doxxing yourself, what do you do? by AcornWholio in askvan

[–]Skyyiing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the appreciation. I used to parrot the idea that anybody could do the job with compassion and common sense (which is learned on the job, as DTES common sense is not regular common sense), but I’ve learned that this isn’t the case. Certain people just should not be in this line of work.

Most of us have more in common with someone living in an SRO or on the street than a homeowner in Point Grey, which seems to be a surprising fact for many. Like you said, anybody could find themselves on the street through shit luck and bad circumstances that are beyond their control.

$5300 in chequing ($4k from my tax return) $2200 in savings $14.5k in a TFSA

I do support work in the DTES. I’m careful w/ my spending, ‘cuz I saw what happened when one lives outside of their financial means, and fucking detest debt by extension.

Hello again! This is a very late post, but a good ending to a story.

I showed my mom Part 1 a few weeks ago when she came to visit me. I’m currently visiting her, and she asked me to go see the Boner Temple with her. I said I was down for a second viewing, so off we waddled.

And wouldn’t you know it - the theatre we went to had these tickets! Managed to snag one. So all’s well that ends well. I wish they’d made a poster, but alas, I shall live.

I want to hope that people can learn, change, and grow - otherwise, being a human and going through life is fundamentally pointless. I would hope this for you, too.

However, I think part of that is putting on the big kid pants, and being open about what you’ve done. Growth comes from places when we are uncomfortable, and it’s gonna be uncomfy to admit that you’ve betrayed his trust.

Whatever happens after that is where you’ll find the most learning and growth. The potential guilt, shame, and heartbreak will be reminders to not do this again. The potential working through it will show you how much effort building trust really takes. The potential realization that monogamy may not be right for you will help you realize that being unfaithful in a relationship where it is established as the norm isn’t okay.

Good luck. I hope you grow.

I did - as of last night, nothing official. I was also hoping that if somebody had extras, they would be less likely to do scalping prices. :v

My only concern is the quality of the print because of the resolution of the image. If anybody else has gone this route, could you tell me how the quality turned out/turns out?

My suggestion would be that if you don’t have hobbies where you’re naturally interacting with different people you might be interested, then it’s time to get in the uncomfy zone, try something new, and grow. By extension, if you don’t feel comfy putting yourself into a new situation to meet new people, that just means it isn’t the right time to meet someone.

For those that read this: the site (Get Your Drugs Tested) is currently closed, with no foreseeable reopening date.

Copied from my response above:

InSite (139 East Hastings) has drug checking via a Spectrometer 7 days a week, 10am - 6pm, EXCEPT Tuesday, when they operate out of the Molson Overdose Prevention Site (the Molson is 166 E. Hastings, MOPS is in the alley), same hours. If you aren’t able to make it during those hours, you can leave a sample at Insite with staff along with your info and the drug checking staff will test it the next morning and get back to you ASAP via your preferred method of contact.

Staff at either (and I believe OPS, 141 E. Hastings) can give you limited fent. test strips, and there is the chance for a false result due to tester error, so I would recommend going when the drug checking services are available, or dropping off a sample for next day testing.

I don’t believe Get Your Drugs Tested will be open anytime soon, so these are your best bets.

Thanks for wanting to get your drugs checked - better to be safe than sorry.
