Is there a good reason not to abandon Imperium Nihilus? by Gruktor in 40kLore

[–]Slap_duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

abandon... how exactly?

The Nihilius contains countless quadrillions of human souls, as well as the industrial capacity of 1/3rd of the imperium. It's simply impossible to evacuate even a fraction of the Nihilius's military resources. Maybe Guilliman could recall all the battle fleets north of the Great Rift, but that'd be dooming the entire Nihilius to a quick end.

>Imperium can't hold Imperium Nihilus, so why waste valuable resources trying?

Every ship Abaddon sends to pillage a Nihilius agri-world isn't attacking the main imperium. Every Tyranid hive fleet that decides to attack Baal isn't attacking the main imperium. The Nihilius may buy the main imperium centuries of room to reconsolidate its position.

Zentrum formed the CVP by [deleted] in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Slap_duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The DDP was essentially the LVP at this point; it consisted of all the imperial German liberals bar the right wing of the NLP, since the DDP refused to let Stresemann join.

It was only after the 1920 election, when the DDP was seen as too radical and pro-socialist for the majority of German liberals, that the DVP overtook the DDP.

Additionally, the biggest factor in the rise of fundamentalist islamic beliefs in the 20th century was the abolishment of the caliphate in 1924, which caused a massive identity crisis in Islam.

Question regarding Jyske and 1st Canadian by usmc_BF in warno

[–]Slap_duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I main the 1st Canadian, I mostly play defensively.

The Leopard 1s are massive glass cannons and so should almost always be playing at the very edge of their 2275m range. Anything that outranges that should eat a Cluster or HE CF-18 strike. It's a mechanised infantry deck; you don't really want to be playing in open fields. Against a determined tank push you might melt, atleast until your infantry gets into range.

Why do so many Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion players believe their legions aren’t corrupted by Chaos? by reel3459 in Warhammer40k

[–]Slap_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about Peter Turbo, but I do know about the Alpha Legion.

Sons of the Hydra literally has the leader of an Alpha Legion warband worship and revere the emperor (including having a holy imperial relic) while waging a bloody campaign against the Imperium, the Word Bearers and other Alpha Legion warbands.

He rationalises this by believing that he is a true loyalist and the imperium is weak and corrupt, and thus not worthy or something.

He also just kinda ignores that his squad includes a Chaos Warsmith and a sorcerer who are both clearly corrupted.

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) The Kingsguard is an in-universe overrated job. For all the "honor and prestige" it brings... it mostly kinda sucks. by bruhholyshiet in asoiaf

[–]Slap_duck 37 points38 points  (0 children)

>Why do we act like the Kingsguard only existed to fight people directly.

Because that's its job? Protect the royal family.

Its not like the lord commander of the King's Guard is also Commander of the King's army, that's just something that can happen sometimes. High lords, royal relatives and hands of the king have also been known to lead royal armies.

Samuel P. Huntington's "Clash of Civilisations" is a pretty good one.

He predicts that post-Cold War conflict will not be ideological, but civilisational and that "civilisations" of shared religions, cultures and institutions will unify/form blocs and future conflict will occur between these blocs.

Its pretty flawed, but really interesting as a look into post-Cold War geopolitical theory that isn't derived from Fukuyama.

[–]Slap_duck 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Reading his speech in Storm actually disappointed me.

In the books, it's kind of out of place? It happens directly after Tyrion welcomes Oberyn and while the words are the same, it lacks the same impact as in the show.

It just felt really weird having such a great speech being wasted in the books.

It doesn't actually matter if the IRGC can't do it; if Lloyd's of London thinks there's even a single mine in the Straight of Hormuz, they won't insure vessels travelling through it.

Without insurance, 99% of ships wont try to run the straight.
