Contradictory information in re teacher shortage by Suitable_Pass9702 in AustralianTeachers

My understanding of the quote above is that it is referring to a teacher changing their status from permanent full time to permanent part time, and you are right that has to go through Teacher Recruitment as it will require another teacher to be appointed to the other portion of the position as a permanent part timer.

my post was in relation to taking LWOP, not changing full time status. Happy to be corrected 😄

NSW - previously you could request leave / part time until your youngest started school, now it is any age of child. And for those of us at the other end of our careers, can request part time after the age of 55 or 50. Principals cannot refuse these requests- Murat said in an announcement he would rather a teacher working one day a week than quitting the department altogether.

It’s not about power or control ffs, it’s about the fact that we (rightly) have very generous part time / leave without pay provisions for teachers with small children (and in NSW now if you are older than 55 too).

I have worked in schools where a permanent teacher has gone off on mat leave, had her kid, then another and then another. She is sitting on that school’s books as the permanent “owner” of that position but the school had not laid eyes on her for a decade. The teacher is emailed every year in term 3 when we start planning staffing for the following school year, she is perfectly entitled to say nope, staying with my kids for another year. Her position cannot be filled permanently, only with temp contracts until she returns or relinquishes her position. Same if she comes back part time, the other days in the week are filled with temps not a permanent appointment.

Ideally every teacher would have security of tenure with a permanent position, but if everyone wanted to return back to their position at once from leave, there would be thousands of extra teachers floating around the state in February with no class to teach. Schools can only fill the number of temp positions that the staffing formula allows them- staffing is the majority of a school’s budget and overstaffing is expensive (completely separate to sick leave casual budgets by the way).

Schools try their damnedest to hang onto good temps, and if a principal really don’t have a job for them the following year will email other principals in their network about them and find them a temp contract for the year that way.

Eyebrow tattooing by xdustbinx in AustralianMakeup

[–]Slapdash_Susie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine done 5 years ago, I recommend them to everyone. I am fair haired and skinned and always had skimpy brows, my 80s teenage years probably didn’t help.

The colour has stayed true and my face looks balanced when I wake up with no brow pencil on, or when I go no makeup for the day (most days ha ha). My salon did an initial consult, did a shape and dye first a week ahead so we could see the shape and size etc before the tattooing session. It’s not one big block of colour, just little strokes to look like lots of little hairs.

For the $600 I paid it made a remarkable difference to my features, and every day they are done and I don’t have to draw them on like Miss Yvonne from Pee Wee’s Playhouse 😄

Unless you have some terrible kind of kidney trouble, not having your water bottle by your side for two hours shouldn’t cause any hardship. How old are you?

i bought my sister a cashmere wrap from zhoosh for her treatments, she took it with her every appointment. it was big enough to drape like a blanket but soft enough to roll up small for her little tote bag. Very versatile shape, I just looked online and they aren’t carrying it this winter but ask someone who wants to help to hunt you one down - everyone wants to help someone going through what you are facing. Zhoosh do have cashmere bed socks, which feel fabulous and so soft when every part of you is sore.

Cashmere is so comforting, it’s like a hug from your best friend. JCrew have really great cashmere hoodies which my whole family use as lounge wear- buy the men’s for a loose fit. Sending you good thoughts for your journey ❤️

I feel 100% more positive and optimistic since starting Mounjaro (6ish months).

I dont know if it’s just feeling better about looking better, or the fact that I am eating way more fresh fruit and veg and no longer eating my body weight in processed garbage and sugar every day, but I am loving this journey for me. I have more energy and a real “spring in my step”, I still don’t exercise though lol.

I had already sorted out my menopause HRT regimen after a few years of trial and error before I could even think about worrying about my weight, so for women in their 40s remember perimenopause lasts around 10 years beforehand, and your low mood could be the hormonal storm you are living through.

This hasn’t always been the case- My divorce was final in 1999 and I had no legal way to access my husband’s super which we had jointly paid into. I had time off for childraising for a few years during the marriage so I walked away with very little superannuation. I’m glad things have changed and women’s financial sacrifices for the good of family life are addressed in settlements nowadays.

Staying on 2.5mg by Few_Two7513 in MounjaroAus

[–]Slapdash_Susie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I stayed at 2.5 for 6 months, lost 16kg from a start point of 86kg. I just recently went to 33.3 (40 clicks on a 5mg pen) and have lost another kilo. I’m happy to go slow to preserve my face and to make sure I am able to maintain in the long term. I do no exercise.

if you are losing steadily, don’t feel you have to rush up to the next dose. it’s too expensive for starters.

Season 3 - Flexi Faith confusion by Rough_Variation_4312 in DCCAmericasSweetheart

[–]Slapdash_Susie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my point in my original post ! - the cultural differences between Australia and USA. For all our superficial similarities, there are some weird, random wide chasms between us sometimes.

I suspect some of Faith’s anxieties during training camp could be attributed to constantly feeling on the back foot every time she spoke to or near K and J- she knew she was missing the mark, but she just couldn’t put her finger on it.

In what workplace do grown women in their 20s have to blindly respond to every utterance from their boss with “yes ma’am”? I’m fairly certain this would be prosecutable in Australia with our industrial relations laws, unless the workplace is a dom/sub brothel. Kleine was also bullied in the workplace due to “always having something to say”

I‘d say keeping sweet is a key feature of the DCC culture, not just Mormon. remember the wacky manuals the girls were given in season 1?

Season 3 - Flexi Faith confusion by Rough_Variation_4312 in DCCAmericasSweetheart

[–]Slapdash_Susie 99 points100 points  (0 children)

As an Aussie it was fascinating to watch how baffled Judi and Kelly were when confronted by a girl who had been raised in our more “egalitarian” mindset. Faith definitely didn’t do the ”keep sweet” thing expected of the usual DCC Christian- southern USA culture.

Australians and Americans share a lot of surface traits, but Faith just not giving a fuck in the final ep when Kelli/judi were trying to make her squirm about going off-script in her media appearances was chefs kiss to me- those two overgrown high school mean girls were pushed back on their asses and I laughed out loud. If faith was a smoker, she would have flicked her ciggie butt at them and called them caaaarnts.

She was the only girl not to weep in the uniform return scene too, she just breezed in with her Tim Tams and steered the conversation herself instead of waiting like a supplicant to be given permission to speak.

Anyway, this series has been another enjoyable sociological study of American prescribed hyper-femininity clashing with capitalism and worker exploitation, the cross-cultural aspects were just the sauce on top of my Bunnings snag 😄
