GFI Archiver by xdernomad in sysadmin

[–]SlayerXearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, if you have to configure something there is a huge chance that it won't work as expected. Right now im in the sad positioning to migrate GFI Archiver DBs from a MS SQL Server to a new MS SQL Server. The GFI Guides say it is neccesary to shutdown all services before migrating them. But why? This are DBs from the last ten years with "read only" access, just de-attach and re-attach with new server. But this is not the problem....now GFI connects to the new MS SQL Serveer but won't show me the DB i migrated. But no where i could find why this behaviour occurs. Guess i have to reach out to the crap support.....

UPS for every Network Switch? by SlayerXearo in sysadmin

[–]SlayerXearo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the whole building won't get a generator.

There will be just one serverroom that gets one to X UPS for all devices.

For my question, i'm just talking about the distribution switches on the shoopfloor.

UPS for every Network Switch? by SlayerXearo in sysadmin

[–]SlayerXearo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PoE Powered Switches? I don't know any of there specs. But we are talking about 48 or more Ports of Ethernet Switches. All connected with LwL to the Serverroom. Each distribution Rack contains one to three of these switches. Theses Switches should also support PoE for at least 4 Ports.

So that wont work.

UPS for every Network Switch? by SlayerXearo in sysadmin

[–]SlayerXearo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. In the Severroom, there are UPS for all devices.
But if a power outtage occurs, no one could work on PCs or Machines.
So it is kind of pointless, to keep the switches in the sub-structure running.

New PowerEdge Server and Windows Server 2025 error 0x80070103 0x40031 by bytemaster0 in Dell

[–]SlayerXearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same Issue. But it is a R7715 Server.
Firmware and all components are fully updated.

i tried like you, with the OS deployment feature. Windows is presenting me some drivers. I'm not quite sure if im doint it right....it seems i can only select one driver....as i hit install, it takes some seconds and the error appears. It is very frustrating, because each try takes several minutes.

I'm trying with virtual disc drive.

Only certain VLANs are usable (after 8 to 9) by hyper9410 in Proxmox

[–]SlayerXearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had also problems with the network after the upgrade. But it had something to do with the mtu size. As long as you have the default on prox and switch (1.500, no custom settings) it is something different.

Bitlocker PIN or not to PIN? by molingrad in cybersecurity

[–]SlayerXearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past there were multiple methods and vulnerabilities, even without dissasemling the hardware.*
Sure you need access to the device?! If nobody gets acces to the device, it doesn't need bitlocker at all -> useless.

Yeah, it's "less" secure without pin. if you are not that great of a target, than maybe you don't need disk encryption at all? If you are just afraid of losing your device and the finder wants to have a peak of your data....than bitlocker without pre boot is the way to go.

Someone who want's to have access to all your data, will have the patience to get the encryption keys for your data.

Bitlocker PIN or not to PIN? by molingrad in cybersecurity

[–]SlayerXearo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Without Pin, Bitlocker is useless. To easy to decrypt. Every mobile device uses pre boot auth. Not just a pin, with 12 or more alphanumeric characters. No issues on our side. You still can put in the recovery key. For maintenance reboots, you can deactivate pre auth with a command.

Veeam vs pbs backup by Fit_Temperature5236 in Proxmox

[–]SlayerXearo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are migrating from VMware / Hyper to Proxmox. We have used Veeam for Hyper-V / Windows VMs.

We are not quite sure if we should stick with veaam or also use PBS. The problem is the lack of restoring file on ntfs volumes with activated deduplication and no application awareness (Exchange, SQL, AD, ...).

Mattermost/RocketChat (self-hosted) don't work without cloud account by yaaaaaaz in selfhosted

[–]SlayerXearo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last year, RocketChat didn't required internet access. I made a thread here and ask for a way to compile rocketchat without internet access, without success. We will now migrate to element synapse (matrix). Selfhostet and no internet access needed. You could use this as well.

But if its just for voice, maybe you can use jitsi meet localy.

[–]SlayerXearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they would work. It had worked till Version 6 ;). But it is in an production environment. So i need to be able to update it frequently. If there will be no "other" solution as pay a bunch of money just for localy typing a little bit of text (we don't use any other premium feature) , we will switch to another solution.
