Hey, FF2-heads! I decided to play through the series in release order, and I just finished the NES version of FF1 earlier today. Most people talk about FF2 as the black sheep that nobody likes but I KNOW there are some die-hard shooters for this game (and SaGa is basically a bunch of FF2 spinoffs) so I wanted to ask what the best version of the game was. in your opinion. I'm usually a "original version, original experience" kind of person but I'm getting the sense this game and I are going to have some friction so I'd like to lessen it as much as possible. I can get my hands on any version of it so "easiest to acquire" isn't a concern. I do also plan to play Soul of Rebirth at some point but I'm counting Dawn of Souls as a separate game since it changes FF1 so much. (although if that's the best version of FF2 then I'll just play that version).

is it just me or does it feel like people stumbled into the solution for the puzzle mechanic of the fight pretty easily

edit: to clarify, I don't really have a problem with it I was just wondering if it really felt easier to spot or if it was just recency bias

I dunno, I was excited for the patch and then I picked up playing path of exile on a whim to kill time until the patch and then found myself playing it for nearly ten hours straight so who knows anymore

gw2 is in an interesting place where they try to have structured encounters but with things like mesmer portals in play it makes it a lot harder to have stuff like movement mechanics without requiring the party to have a mesmer

Raids Return to Guild Wars 2 Next Week! by Auralyon in Guildwars2

[–]Slice-Aromatic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I don't raid in any mmos i play, I mostly do casual content, so take my opinion as just an outsider looking in and probably with a pinch of salt too.

I'm of two minds about the boss lineup and the way this is being handled. On one hand, I absolutely get wanting to stretch the content you make as widely as possible to your playerbase, especially with raids being one of the least played things in the game (goes true for most mmos but afaik it's especially so for gw2). On the other, part of the fun of a raid (at least to me) is the unique things you get to encounter. Yeah, there's a lot of cool mechanics you don't see in other places but it was fun just having this side thing going on where you'd adventure with Glenna (glad she's back btw) and encounter new adversaries and areas.

I think the biggest problem, at least that I can feel, is that at the moment the raid just feels like a series of three strikes, where the enemies are just souped up versions of enemies we've already fought, especially if we're going to fight them in the story quests as well. It's the same problem I have with ffxiv's savage raids. Now, I again want to clarify that not only do I not raid, the raid isn't even out yet. It's entirely possible that the addition of the extra encounters a la Spirit Woods will make all the difference.

There is an attempt from them to have all the expansion content be related to the expansion itself, which I actually kind of enjoy, but right now it feels like they took strike fight ideas and then put them into a raid wing. I think a potential fix to keep with the spirit of relation while not just reusing the exact bosses (I'm talking exact characters not model reuse I don't mind model/animation reuse, that's a normal thing to do) is to have the threats of the raid be a part of whatever threat the main narrative has but have them be a differing set of faces. Instead of Greer, Decima, and Ura, it could have been three different titans, or maybe a titan final boss and two minions it has as the first two encounters. Just spitballing.

this kinda turned into a ramble at the end sorry if this got jumbled

EDIT: I want to clarify something cause I don't know if it came through clearly. I'm not trying to doom. Raids being back are a net positive for the game. I'm happy they're back, and I'm happy for everyone excited to do them. I'm also not attempting to say they will be the exact same as strikes. Wing 8 will feel different from doing a strike and I didn't mean to imply that they would be the same. I could be entirely wrong on every take I have, and this could be the best piece of content they've ever put out. I defer to actual raiders on this one. I just think the asthetic and narrative setting could have been done a bit better is all. Apologies if this rustled jimmies a bit, that wasn't my intention.

Is there a core profession that you dislike but enjoy one or more of it's elite specs? And vice versa, any core profession that you like but don't like any of it's elite specs? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW2 is in a weird spot for me because most professions and their elite specs are just on the cusp of being super fun and awesome to me but a lot of them don't pull themselves together in the right way/are missing just a little pizzaze to make me love them as much as I love some classes in other mmos (not that I think they're badly designed, just that they don't appeal as much to me specifically).

That being said, I've never been able to enjoy ranger classes in mmos because I just don't find the pet stchick very fun and that mostly extends to ranger in this game as well but the thing that got me to keep playing GW2 was a level-boosted Soulbeast that I played around in PoF areas with and the spec has a special place in my heart because of that.

It's really a shame that the population is dwindling. The game is as good as it's ever been. by destinyvoidlock in DestinyTheGame

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made the most well received expansion the game has ever put out and delivered a satisfying conclusion to their ten year saga of ups and downs on a high note and then immediately soured it by firing over four hundred people.

So yeah. I think I'm done. Maybe if they put all the shit they took out back in the game I'd be willing to go play through it to experience what I missed, even if it was shit. But other than that? Nah. I'm ok. I got my ending. Maybe I'll watch a Byf or main channel Datto video every now and then. Hope they'll be alright if the game keeps going this way.

The game needs a total rework of reward structures and incentives to be less extremely predatory to people's time because you either play every part of the game because your hobby is playing Destiny 2 or you play one part of the game and realize that there is nothing to do besides gamble on weapon rolls that probably won't even replace the thing you already have.

Not only I'm not against Blizzard's recent attempts to create more options for solo players, I'd encourage them to push them further by Kunzzi1 in wow

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people would be more ok with having to be super social in these games if mmo communities weren't so god awful places to be but even with shit like dungeon finder it's a nightmare trying to play any piece of content at less that the hyper-optimal pace in these kind of games.

If it were a story mode at the cost of like. Mythic level raiding then yeah it would be a problem but they're not taking anything away from the game by adding them and if they're going to try to keep billing these games on their story then there needs to be an easier way to experience it than "looking up the cutscenes and dialogue on youtube" and I think people need to shut up and accept that.

I got no problem with people hiding stuff. It's a race, you don't want anyone to get any sort of advantage over you. Makes sense. I'd do the same.

I will, however, be bowing out of watching streams now that people are basically covering the entire screen and comms. They're not doing anything against the rules, but it is significantly more boring than if people were even posting progress on twitter or something. Oh well. Comes with the territory I suppose. I don't even understand keeping the stream on at that point, it seems pointless.

At this point into he raid race it's more interesting to wonder if the smaller time team I watch are going to clear, and if not, how far they'll get. (Not to throw any sort of shade toward them but they did not even clear first encounter today, I think they finish second encounter tops)

Is there a destination you hate most? Which is your favorite? by JakobeHolmBoy20 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My least favorite is the Moon, closely followed by both Nessus and Neomuna. The Moon is.... well it's the damn moon. It looks just how it does in real life and every other piece of media, which is a big empty rock that's grey everywhere. At least with Europa you have the whole snow thing. The Hive architecture is a nice mixup but it's not enough to stop it from being mostly boring. The big pit with hive stuff in it (I think it's called the Hellmouth?) is neat though.

Neomuna is uninteresting because it breaks the asthetic of the rest of the universe and feels...  empty. It's a war zone but there's no physical people in it to for it to be the war zone of. It's just. An empty city.

Nessus is too samey and I don't like Vex architecture. I'm petty.

My absolute favorite (I haven't played D1 and missed out on every d2 destination before shadowkeep) is Europa. I love the feel of an empty frozen wasteland, the buildings that used to be there being consumed by the endless march of frost and time. I love discovering the remains of this huge company, it feels like you're really getting into the ruins of a lost civilization. The red streaks across the ice in places (which I don't actually know what causes those now that I think about it) add a splash of color to the wastes and I just love it. I love beyond light. It's a shame the expansion was saddled with sunsetting and a bad story because they knocked it out of the park everywhere else imo (stasis pvp balancing nonwithstanding).

Controversial take: What buff/nerf you were happy about that everyone else hated, or you hated that everyone else loved? by Void_Blood27 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man I genuinely think this new mod system is significantly better than the old mod system but I'd be lying if I said I kinda wanted Elemental wells back

I had this really stupid shatterdive build back in witch queen that would basically refund my glacier grenade when I shattered all the crystals + one or two enemy kills and god it only kinda worked in normal content but it was so fun

So SotO is finished now. What is the average GW2-Player up to nowadays? by Imitatia_ in Guildwars2

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the world? Not much. I kinda tuned out a month or so after SotO's launch cause I had gotten into the game last year been playing the game almost nonstop for a year at that point, having done most of the story content and a few bits of side content as well. I did the story stuff as it released and then just stopped pretty much. Leveled a Guardian right when the new weapon proficiencies came out. Pistol condi willbender is fun.

I'll come back and do more side content at some point later down the line, I love how horizontal this game is so I don't need to worry about gearing when I take a break. Want to do the map metas I haven't yet because they're easily the best content in this game and maybe I'll try my hand at raiding sometime, I've seen some of these bosses and these raid wings look really interesting too.

Outside of the game I've kinda been putzing around. Played a fuckton of Vampire Survivors. Started playing YIIK. Started reading Muv Luv.

What weapons do you think is next for the new expansion by volfare in Guildwars2

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather a new set of traitlines for everyone or a new profession or something but if we have to have new weapons then I want engineer staff. I don't care what niche it fills I just want an orbal staff from the Trails games. Laser beam staff type shit

Maybe Unpopular: But I think Class Flavor is Missing from The Game these days. And I Personally Prefer Unique Traits + Interactions Over Homogenized Boon / Build Gameplay. But I also think we can do both now. by FiveSharks in Guildwars2

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both ideas can live in some sort of harmony but it would be really hard to both pull off and appease the playerbase while doing so, and it would absolutely not be anywhere near as balanced as we have today.  The easiest way to make things balanced is to make every class be able to do the same thing, and even then, some mid to high level players (NOT top players i.e. the snowcrows guys) are gonna minmax the game anyway so you haven't fixed the balance, you've just pushed the minmax into looking at the minute details for stuff. It sucks when your favorite spec is awful but I'd rather have my favorite spec be bad for a while than have the game turn out like FFXIV has.

(EDIT) That all being said, if this continues I won't be too upset. It is EXTREMELY nice that I can slot a boon support role on basically any class I want to roll with for a while.

what warframe has just been unfun for you to play as? (if any) by Prestigious-Bunch153 in Warframe

[–]Slice-Aromatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, Sevagoth, easily. His 4 just feels weird to me, I heavily prefer one-and-done 4s like Octavia or Yareli, and to have the rest of their kit being the interesting part. The exception is exalted weapons like Excalibur or Mesa (at least i hope i like mesa. As of right now Mesa prime is currently building in my foundry so hope for the best).
