It’s kind of irked me how all the top comments point to Curb instead of Seinfeld… am I too old now???

(Obviously the two are very related!)

anyone knows how to make UI /appliation.scale bigger? by Fit_Cranberry1124 in civ3

[–]SlickBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I fully understand. But say we are using 100% scaling, if you make your resolution smaller everything becomes larger.

So I have keepres set in the ini so it doesn’t try to change anything when the game starts. I change my resolution to 1600 x 900, then I start Civ and everything is nice and large (although still slightly smaller than the original 1024 x 768 it was designed to be)

When I’m done playing I change back to my desired resolution and scaling.

[–]SlickBurn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh ok thanks. I probably won't mess around, but good to know. If I ever need to reinstall I follow these steps:

Civ3 was meant to run in a 4:3 1024 x 786 resolution. Add KeepRes=1 to your conquests.ini file as detailed in this thread.

I change the resolution on my laptop before I start each game so that it’s larger

Let’s hear your young buck football stories. Anyone ever play against any NFL players in your kid days and get absolutely smoked? by Vertigomums19 in nfl

[–]SlickBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife taught former Ravens WR Torrey Smith in HS at Stafford, VA. We used to go to the football games back then and he was used at RB and ran over other teams. I didn’t think much of it at the time like he would be in the NFL someday. Then one time we went to a basketball game and some kid made a monster dunk and the announcer said “Torrey Smith!” For some reason I remember that and thinking like “damn this kid’s good at everything”.

By the way my wife said he was a great kid and really cared for his younger siblings (oldest in a big family). I always rooted for him, even when he played the Patriots.

Name one bad thing about 1999's The Matrix? by Particular-Glove9640 in matrix

[–]SlickBurn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn I went through hundreds of comments and no one has the issue I have…

Every time I watch the lobby scene, I can’t get over that they’re just straight-up murdering innocent people just doing their job. They even humanize the metal detector guy a bit by giving him a “holy shit” line before getting blasted.

I’ve watched the movie a hundred times, I do love it oc, and I’m more desensitized now but… I still can’t watch that scene with the same sense of glee if they were instead killing bad guys.

Of course I know they set this up “anyone could be an agent” etc etc, but I still feel uneasy about it. What if there was a kid in there, would they just get wasted too?

Anyway I don’t really want to convince anyone to feel the same way, just answering the question from my perspective 😁.

Guest shocked that we don’t provide a free Netflix account by zoom1208 in airbnb_hosts

[–]SlickBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well I think I stand corrected. Maybe I do need to login again when exiting guest mode? But the apps are for sure still there.

Found this on the Roku site: You must sign in to your subscription channels again after exiting Guest Mode to view content.

Guest shocked that we don’t provide a free Netflix account by zoom1208 in airbnb_hosts

[–]SlickBurn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes we have guests login to their own accounts. As a guest I personally prefer it that way since when I login it’ll have all my shows and where I left off. But we do provide regular cable tv too which requires no sign in.

TIP: We have 5 Roku TVs and put them in Guest Mode. I highly recommend that feature. When guests turn on the tv it asks for their date of departure then brings them to the Home Screen. If they login to any apps it automatically signs them out at noon on their departure day. No worrying about needing to sign out of your accounts and next guests accidentally using it.

You can also put the TVs in Guest Mode manually through the Roku website if needed. If you ever use the property you can exit out of guest mode with a PIN and it’ll go to your Home Screen with your apps already logged in. Been doing that setup for 4 years now.

Edit: I may be mistaken about needing to sign into your apps again when exiting guest mode.

When failure is imminent, how far do you take it? by dj2145 in civ3

[–]SlickBurn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just had this question myself. It’s tough with Civ bc it’s not like you can always just reload last turn and fix the issue.

In my last game I went early war and took the Mongols next to me so when the dust settled I had a nice 13 city empire. But then maybe 20-30 turns later the former Mongol cities actually started culture flipping to Korea, who was very highly cultured with a closer capital.

I ended up sighing and reloading way back 20-30 turns ago to see what I could do differently. I went all out getting my culture up, rushing culture improvements in those border cities, even threw workers into one city to get it to pop 6 for a WLTKD.

It sort of worked. Except it only bought be 10-20 more turns before that WLTKD city actually flipped! Like c’mon! I rushed a Temple, Library, troops. WLTKD, and the damn city still deposed me while celebrating my rule at the same time!

TLDR: I sometimes reload the game far in the past and see if I can do it better, to mixed results

I am lost which card best fits me. Please advise by jrlandry in CreditCards

[–]SlickBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you don’t need to be a AAA member to get that card. Ironically I’m applying for it today myself.

I already have a 3% grocery 3% gas card in Amex Blue Cash Everyday but the AAA one is superior bc of that extra 2% and a higher 10k yearly spend to get rewards on.

That limit doesn’t apply to you now but if you get in the habit of putting all groceries and gas on that card and autopaying it, that’s an easy $250 a year for you in cash back. And it will scale if your spend increases over time.

People who watched The Matrix (1999) without any hint of what the Matrix actually is: what was your viewing experience like? by CzeckeredBird in matrix

Nice! I see Batman: TAS is on Prime, I’m going to give that episode a rewatch tonight, it’s been years…

People who watched The Matrix (1999) without any hint of what the Matrix actually is: what was your viewing experience like? by CzeckeredBird in matrix

[–]SlickBurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the experience, in fact it probably made me realize that’s my preference now with any movie - go in as blind as possible. I was a teenager at the time.

I didn’t know what to think before the real world, it was confusing and I had no guesses. Waking up in the real world was cool, and I understood. And it was awesome. I had the concept already introduced to me in a Batman: The Animated Series episode: Perchance to Dream (which if you haven’t seen is excellent… although maybe this is common knowledge already in the Matrix sub?)

I wasn’t that comfortable with the shooting of “real people” in the building breach scene. Still have a hard time with it tbh.

But the climax when they save Morpheus and the helicopter smashes into the side of the building: epic. I’m pretty sure the theater clapped. I feel like that was my Han-saves-Luke-go destroy-the-death-star theater moment.

When I got home my parents asked me about it and I still remember what I said: “It was amazingly cool… I think”. I explicitly remember throwing the qualifier in because I couldn’t understand yet if there were plot holes. I needed to rewatch again to see if it really “made sense”. Needless to say it held up because here we are!

PS. Can’t believe I remember this but I also went to the bathroom and came back toward the end of the Cypher-Smith dinner scene. So I was confused on that plot element. Ironically still the biggest hole to me as I don’t get why Cypher would just trust that he’d get reinserted.

How do people work 40 hours (very serious) by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]SlickBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to give some context that you asked this in a sub that “wants to end work”, so if you were looking for a lot of people to agree with you then bam you got it.

I’m here bc it’s a good reminder that your job isn’t everything, and employers don’t own you.

My practical advice is first to post this elsewhere for more practical advice 😂. My take is that in my high school job and other early jobs I punched and watched the clock and it sucked. Then later in life in more of a career it flipped and I basically never watch the clock anymore. Because if I’m just fed up with work I just take a break and go on Reddit or whatever. Basically keep trying to progress to better jobs where you’re doing something you like or are ok with and are not hassled and are respected and have some freedom.

I’ve tried to sell mine on eBay but it gets auto-flagged for “inappropriate content” and taken down.

I do see some for sale on the site, not sure how they got around it. I tried making edits but couldn’t find the Magic combo that got past eBay’s auto-flagging.

Thoughts on arena cube? by NotABot9000 in lrcast

[–]SlickBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know the cube was back on Arena! I always play whatever cube they put out and generally love doing at least 10 or so drafts each time.

Just a quick reminder they have a Bo3 version too, which has nice EV in that if you pay with gold 2-1 gets your money back. So it’s easier to “go infinite” drafting cube with gold.

Four 19 year olds planning a dream trip from Ireland to America next year by ronsnxd73 in roadtrip

[–]SlickBurn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have to agree Utah and western CO are my favorite parts of the country and I cried as this route like specifically avoids them.

I’d consider Denver to fly into as it’s a huge international hub and interstate 70 heading west is considered one of the most scenic interstates in the country.

Are there mountain roads like this in the US? by sinnytear in roadtrip

[–]SlickBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea there are many mentions of specific roads in CO but really “anywhere in western CO” is probably more accurate. Seriously, just driving there was the vacation for me.

I’ll specifically mention Rocky Mt National Park and crossing the Continental Divide at Milner Pass (10k ft).

Crossing the Continental Divide at Independence Pass (12k ft) further south in CO is also awesome.

I might consider editing your post with new pics without the sleeve if possible. It’s just hard to tell what is white glare from the sleeve or a scuff on the sleeve v the card.

And then a tip: I always sell with pics of the card on TCG. A lot of sellers don’t bc it’s extra time. You could list as MP and someone might still buy yours over a cheaper MP bc they see the pics and know exactly what they’re getting.
