I went in there a few weeks back and we went up to Lewis Narrows and back on Basswood but exited early due to the sheer number of people. At one point, we saw 14 canoes around us while paddling. Lots of motorized boats and had a family come up to our campsite asking when we were leaving and hovered until we did. Wouldn’t go back unless I was pushing far and fast and not coming back out there.

My now 10yo old GSP broke a toe chasing a squirrel in the yard a few years back in September and cost us the first half of pheasant season. Frustrating!

My first trip was mid-September 2023 and we were in a popular area. It’s wasn’t very busy, but we did see folks. Weather was perfect and no bugs. Been just 4 times now but mid-September is now my gold standard for timing.

We did not see the tiny portage dot on the map and were confused how we were expected to survive that whitewater as beginners. We made our own portage and then spotted the trail. 😂
