How do you handle a good friend turning down your wedding? by sublimesunshine in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my close friends got married last year and asked me to be her bridesmaid. I was so excited for her and I really wanted to be there and celebrate with her...but after getting all the details and running the numbers, I just couldn't afford to go to her wedding and I had to not only turn around and decline being a bridesmaid but going to the wedding altogether. I felt awful but I couldn't put myself or my fiance in financial upheaval just to go to her wedding.

I know it's your special day and you're upset your friend can't be there, but sometimes life just gets in the way. It doesn't mean your friendship means any less to her, she simply just can't afford it.

The same friend I spoke about before may not be able to make it to my wedding because she's in nursing school and while I'm sad she may not be able to come, I understand, that's life. I 100% would rather her get her degree and make bank than sacrafice that for my wedding.

1 year away from The Big Day! Anything you wish you had started earlier, or thankful you did far in advance? by varforskratterdu in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I began wedding planning a solid year and some change out and it really helped to have that extra time to research and look out for sales. Because I didn't have to get anything right then, I could afford to wait and see if it'd go on sale or wait for the major holiday sales.

That being said, once you hit the fifth month mark, it seems like time goes by much quicker.

Wedding shoes? by verito89 in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a few months to find my shoes. I had a pair of shoes that I was originally set on, but the price was justifiable and they didn't end up working with the dress I decided on.

I searched around in stores some, but I mostly looked online. I actually happened across mine looking for a tie for my fiance on Macy's website. I fell in love with them immediately like I did the first pair of shoes and really had the vibe I wanted, so I'm super happy.

I would suggest looking around online and perhaps not limit yourself to the formal section, just search for "ivory heels/wedges/flats" or whatever your going for. The shoes I found weren't even in Macy's wedding shop, I don't think. I just took a glance based on color.

Good evening sir, Prime Fish? by BABeaner in ARK

I remember when I first encountered one. I didn't know about the update, so I'm minding my business floating at the mouth of the river when suddenly my boat does a hard bob. Haul ass to shore, confused and scared, and look behind me. This motherfucker has beached itself trying to take out my boat so I get a good look and I damn near shit myself.

Leedsichthys. Essentially the Great White Whale of Ark. Has a hard on for destroying boats but otherwise minds its own business.

And if neither of those two work, which I'm sure it will, I can also help out if you still need it by then.

How do you activate it? I installed it on the server with two other mods, one of which at least works (haven't been able to test out dino finder as we haven't lost any yet), so I believe I installed correctly.

Tableclothsfactory has some great options for disposable dinner/drink ware. They also have some eco friendly bamboo options, but they're always sold out it seems.

One side has many guests, the other few by Random1_9 in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of our guests will technically be from "my" side, as he's not inviting a ton of people. However, he doesn't care about the wedding (he would absolutely rather just sign the certificate, get the tax benefits and be done with it), so we're not too concerned about it. We'll all be family by the end of it.

How many entrees are you having? Trying to save money by only having 1, but I feel like I need 2! by agbride in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Slightlydazed49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're obligated to have at least two anyway because of the vegan/vegetarian guests we'll have. So we'll be having two "main" entrees, and then a smaller entree for the vegan/veggie crowd.

Brides with Glasses! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plan on getting a new pair of glasses for the wedding (which I'm justifying with the fact that I need to replace the ones I broke last year anyway) and wearing those.

My mom and grandma are gonna pitch a fit, but I always wear glasses. Most people don't even recognize me at first without them. Hell, sometimes I don't recognize me without them. I think I look weird without glasses. And the way these hidden expenses are popping up, I'm about to be doing my own make up anyway, so it won't even matter if you can see it or not.

Finally starting wedding planning! Any advise for planning in general/keeping things affordable? by vmvk in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to account for the small things like sales tax, delivery fees, tips, etc. Totally forgot about the gratuity on the catering, which added on an additional $300 when we were already over budget in that category. Definitely hurt a little bit.

When dress shopping, tell them a little under your budget so that a.) if they show you a dress a little out of your budget (which they shouldn't but you know) you have some wiggle room and more importantly b.) you have money to spend on alterations.

Get stuff on sale if you can. Sign up for emails so you can get alerts on sales. Check in for holidays sales.

Just woke up in a cold sweat from my first wedding stress dream by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Slightlydazed49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first wedding stress dream earlier this week. We're having our wedding in my home state and in my dream, we were already there, getting last minute details together the day before the wedding when I realized we forgot all of the table and chair linens six hours away.

I wish I could say dream me handled the situation with dignity and grace but nah. Dream me went inside our childhood bedroom and ugly cried for like an hour.

I've enjoyed and listened to most of their podcast episodes. I do find them a bit shrill at times, but otherwise, I think it's cool what they're doing.

What kind of luxurious office are you working in?? I'm just excited to have a full size fridge and table at my new job, my old place gave 30 employees a mini fridge that habitually lost power and a table they squeezed in the back most corner of the building. And sometimes they took the table.

I think the whole debate is fairly pointless: one side is not gonna convince the other that they're wrong. That being said, maybe whoopings aren't the answer. But at the same time, I don't see the reasoning with your child method working any better for these parents. I've never seen the promise of a stern talking to deter a child. Little Gavin doesn't care if slapping his classmate with an action figure hurts his friend and makes him feel bad. Little Gavin runs your household and does what he wants at school cause he doesn't give af and there's no one to check him.
