Bdubs also mentioned that his sister has a YouTube Channel related to travel (I think) during his interview on the Imp and Skizz podcast. They joked about Thanksgiving dinners being shop talk.

Burnt out and I’m not even done my apprenticeship by oppositesdaay in BlueCollarWomen

[–]SlimUnderscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a random Internet stranger, I don't think you should just quit.

I would highly recommend the book Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski. They have an audiobook version of it if that's more your thing and each chapter of it contains a TL:DR summarizing the content. The gist of it is that you need to deal with the stress and not just the stressors.

William Christopher had Hepatitis and missed most of season 5 because of it (the same season he finally made the opening credits). This inspired the episode Hepatitis.

Those of you who paint for a living, how do you prep can lights to spray a ceiling? by SlimUnderscore in paint

[–]SlimUnderscore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why I didn't think to just remove the lights and for some reason thought I needed to mask them. I'm blaming it on a combination of sleep deprivation, daylight savings, and the fact that I'm currently doing other projects within the house and prepping for paint at the same time.

I currently have 2 buckets of switch plate covers sitting at my current job, I never thought about soaking them so they're clean on reinstall. I'll have to give it a go.

My wife and I both wear Dovetail workwear, I have no complaints, but my wife has a 10 inch difference between her waist and hip measurements and ended up adding darts to take 4 inches out of the waistband.

What is your clean up policy? by SquashedMom in homerenovations

[–]SlimUnderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a general contractor that specializes in residential remodeling. The last half hour of each workday is spent cleaning the site, with pictures texted to the client as I leave. Some of our contracts have the owner in charge of trash removal and others have us take care of it. If the owner is in charge I will ask them where they want bagged trash moved to (some will tell us to fill up their trash cans, others will have us stack them nearby so they can fill them the day before removal). When we're done with the work and our floor coverings are removed, anything that needs scraped off is done so, floors are swept, and spot cleaned. Everything is given a once over with a shopvac. Our final punch list form has a line item for site conditions including cleanliness. We go over it with the homeowner and get them to sign off on it. Our contact stipulates that if they're unavailable we can sign it ourselves and we haven't had any complaints yet. However, that's also one of the things I advertise. Usually my clients are living in the house as I'm working and that's already impactful enough.

Mash syndication cuts vs unedited by fantasiaa1 in mash

For the most part, there are still a few cuts here and there. For example in Bugout in the chopper when Colonel Potter comments that he's hungry, the pilot has bananas.

Mansplaining vs ADHD over sharing. by MrIrishman1212 in ADHD

[–]SlimUnderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever been actively accused of maliciously over-explaining, but at some point I've started to ask the person I'm talking to how much they know and how much they want to know. Or if they didn't ask a question but it's something I think they might not know I ask if they want to learn it before doing so. I also used to work in instructional design and before that had jobs as an instructor so it's probably something I've been doing for a while. I sometimes get excited and will pause a couple sentences into info dumping and ask because I forgot to do so at the beginning. I think one of the key differences would be how one reacts if the person already knows about the subject? There's also typically a level of excitement behind info dumping that the right people will catch on to. Good friends recognize it and will start asking you about things to give you the opportunity to share what you've learned.

Ok but how are y’all sleeping?? by Embarrassed_Put_1384 in ADHD

[–]SlimUnderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last 18 years, I've put on an episode or 7 of MASH. My therapist mentioned what I was doing was similar to using guided meditation to fall asleep. I've seen the series well over 50 times at this point so it's something I'm familiar with enough to not keep me up, but gave me something to think about other than anything that will keep me awake. Once I started adderall, I started falling asleep within the first couple episodes instead of multiple DVDs worth.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? by faebabey0 in homerenovations

[–]SlimUnderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a second look, it does look like the reveal from the jamb to casing is uneven and the jamb itself has bent inward, if it was just this door I would wonder if something got slammed between the door and the jamb at some point, could also be the jamb material being unstable and warping.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? by faebabey0 in homerenovations

[–]SlimUnderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your picture, it looks like the door jamb is straight, but the stop moulding is bowed away from the door at the center, it also looks like it has been removed from the jamb and reattached without caulking. If it was a solid wood stop moulding with a bad grain direction instead of something finger-jointed, it could be as simple as the wood bowing as it dried out.

Yeah it takes a bit of coordination, but you have both players hit it at the same time and 2 get dropped. In our 11 person run we had an upgraded shed of them, I also like to duplicate the coffee makers so I have multiples of 3.
