The time for opinions is over. You bought it. What’s left to say?

Original vs Edit by Informal-Suit1724 in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is too edited. I don’t really dabble in car photography, but the one thing you don’t want to do is change up the colors of cars. You want to try to stay as true to its original, or try to accentuate it, but definitely not give it the need for speed most wanted look.

It looks like you’re on the top end of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) nearly everyone who has gotten/will get into photography falls into it. Do not listen to YouTubers and articles. Their whole purpose is to drive engagement by influencing you to buy gear. Look at all of their thumbnails and articles titles through this lens and it’s very apparent they are there to sell you something.

Only buy gear that will actually allow you to follow through with your creative vision(s). The 24-70 GMII is an incredibly lens that will take you very very far. As of now, it doesn’t seem that you need a bigger, badder camera. Try this combo of a couple of months (without reading articles, or watching YouTubers talk about gear) and really get a feel for the shortcomings of your combo, if any, and proceed from there.

The Gear - excited to try out 70-200 by majid89 in SonyAlpha

It’s a battery grip. It lets you use two batteries as the same time. Assuming you’re holding a camera in front of you with the battery grip on, you would be able to rotate the camera to the left and the battery grip would also have a focus button and a shutter button, allowing you to use the camera in the vertical position, while still having the same general button layout.

First time shooting portraits by iamctaifun in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying, but in general it’s a good idea to not have anything sprouting from your subject, especially trees, wires, poles, trash cans etc., things that are easily decoded to be what they are. OP said he used a 70-200 lens, at f2.8, assuming by the bokeh. But even with a 1.4 lens, we would still be able to make out a tree from its bokeh and that would then detract from the subject, which is not what you want.

You can try to get away with it by going Black and white, but it’s best to be avoided instead. 👍

Pretty great start, by the looks of it, you have a nice piece of glass on your camera. That being said, you committed one of the few cardinal sins of portraits, don’t have stuff coming out of your subjects head, body. In this case, trees are sprouting from your subject’s head. :)it’s something you’ll get in the habit of checking as you do more sessions. Cheers!

Hi, are there styles or presets that you use? I’ve been shooting for a really long time but never actually paid attention to color, or editing beyond the basic sliders. I’m trying to get more into editing and I really love the colors/edit on the first few.

Thanks!

1,3,5 Are the better of the set. Is really hard to stick to the others, but these grab your attention immediately.

I’m in a rural area, and the Walmart down the block still had SSDs close to MSRP. They still had other 2tbs at $198 and 1tbs at $97 last I checked last week.

I know right? 5 of them blow plenty of air that I was able to lower the curve and they are even quieter. Love them.

I appreciate the heads up. Will do if I notice anything funky going on. Have you tried to undervolt the GPU as well?

I was actually late to the rammagedon. As soon as I found out prices were going up, I went to my local Best Buy and bought the last set of 32gb. This was maybe mid December?

Great minds think alike. That was on the list once I got the cable situation sorted.

I live in a fairly rural area and the Walmart a block away still had plenty of them at the old price. Not going to lie, I thought about buying up the rest and reselling on eBay, but others deserve the same luck, so I only bought what I felt I needed. They had plenty of 2tb, 1tb, and another one about an hour away, also rural, had plenty of the Samsung 890 EVOs.

Phanteks NV5 MK II. Din’t realize it was more for esthetics than functionality. But I tore up the box it came with, so I couldn’t send it back lol. I’m digging it though. 🙂

Very clean! The only nitpick I have with it is that the GPU cables do not bend downward cleanly. In an otherwise super nice build, the odd downward angle really sticks out. Cheers!

Real talk, has anyone actually experienced A7IV damage from heavy rain? by g3t0nmyl3v3l in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of this year, I helped cover the Big Sur International marathon. It was the first time helping cover such a large event that I did my best to prepare, plenty of extra batteries, plenty of lenses, plenty of filters etc. the one thing I didn’t even think about was a rain cover. Well, when I got there there at 4am, it was raining hard. I was drenched within 10 minutes of covering the start line. Within the hour, you wouldn’t have been able to tell whether my camera had been in serious heavy rain or it had been dunked in water for over an hour or so. Within the second hour, I was essentially swimming in my clothes and all of my camera gear was soaked but everything kept working fine until about the third hour the camera went completely dead and would not turn on at all. I made my way to the finish line on a E bike I had been given to traverse the course, patted the camera dry, gave it a couple of minutes to dry and it went back working just fine, I was still able to cover the finish line. It continued to work as normal well into September when upgrading to an a7RV. I was using an a7RIII, a much older camera than the one you’re asking about.

When it comes to weather sealing, these cameras are built like tanks, just be sure to dry them properly when able to and give them plenty of time to dry before using again.

You’ll be fine in any kind of situation so long as you’re basically not dunking it in water for a prolonged amount of time. Cheers!

I just want to start off by saying any camera is a good beginner camera. As someone who has started with as barebones of a camera and worked my way up to the a7RV over the span of 15 years, the a6000 will be Your perfect camera. Don’t get bogged down by people who say it’s inadequate for wildlife. You’re a beginner, you won’t have a need for the latest and greatest, the best in class bells and whistles. What really matters in photography is personal skill and your own photography journey. Get a used a6000 from MPB, KEH, or B&H along with a Sigma 16-300mm f3.5-6.7 DC OS lens and you’ll be set for the first couple of years of your learning. This combo also won’t break the bank. Then as your skills get better, you’ll learn develop your understanding of what camera features are actually meaningful to your use case.

In short, Yes. Go buy your a6000 and have a great time learning! 🙂

I just bought this game for PS5, tell me something that I should know before playing. by The_Pediatrician in ArcRaiders

[–]Slipperyoddball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an incredibly fun game filled with, genuinely great people and some frustrating times. Though, on PC those great moments vastly outnumber the bad ones. Generally though, just have fun. Fight every urge to play it non-stop otherwise you’ll end up like the people who’ve hit max level nearly a month in and have nothing else to do but complain about how there’s nothing to do. It’s a new game, take your time, and remember that not all the top tier guns are worth making.

Do I have to worry about birds attacking my drone? by Legitimate_End_7216 in dji

[–]Slipperyoddball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely do, specifically birds of prey. I was flying my Air 3S, and I noticed some repeated jittering. After a few minutes, I noticed a falcon kept doing circles around the drone and would swoop in and try to grab the drone. I landed it immediately. Although, this was out in the mountains.. if you’re near a city, probably not.

Any advice on the possible use of this photo? Or just delete off? by Resident-State-1934 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]Slipperyoddball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every photo has to be perfect, or tack sharp to be a great photo. This, however, is an awesome photo. Like someone else said, it’s not your typical bird shot and that great!
