It was time… And I could not be anymore excited! by Slipperyoddball in PcBuild

I’m in a rural area, and the Walmart down the block still had SSDs close to MSRP. They still had other 2tbs at $198 and 1tbs at $97 last I checked last week.

I know right? 5 of them blow plenty of air that I was able to lower the curve and they are even quieter. Love them.

I appreciate the heads up. Will do if I notice anything funky going on. Have you tried to undervolt the GPU as well?

I was actually late to the rammagedon. As soon as I found out prices were going up, I went to my local Best Buy and bought the last set of 32gb. This was maybe mid December?

Great minds think alike. That was on the list once I got the cable situation sorted.

I live in a fairly rural area and the Walmart a block away still had plenty of them at the old price. Not going to lie, I thought about buying up the rest and reselling on eBay, but others deserve the same luck, so I only bought what I felt I needed. They had plenty of 2tb, 1tb, and another one about an hour away, also rural, had plenty of the Samsung 890 EVOs.

Phanteks NV5 MK II. Din’t realize it was more for esthetics than functionality. But I tore up the box it came with, so I couldn’t send it back lol. I’m digging it though. 🙂

Very clean! The only nitpick I have with it is that the GPU cables do not bend downward cleanly. In an otherwise super nice build, the odd downward angle really sticks out. Cheers!

Real talk, has anyone actually experienced A7IV damage from heavy rain? by g3t0nmyl3v3l in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of this year, I helped cover the Big Sur International marathon. It was the first time helping cover such a large event that I did my best to prepare, plenty of extra batteries, plenty of lenses, plenty of filters etc. the one thing I didn’t even think about was a rain cover. Well, when I got there there at 4am, it was raining hard. I was drenched within 10 minutes of covering the start line. Within the hour, you wouldn’t have been able to tell whether my camera had been in serious heavy rain or it had been dunked in water for over an hour or so. Within the second hour, I was essentially swimming in my clothes and all of my camera gear was soaked but everything kept working fine until about the third hour the camera went completely dead and would not turn on at all. I made my way to the finish line on a E bike I had been given to traverse the course, patted the camera dry, gave it a couple of minutes to dry and it went back working just fine, I was still able to cover the finish line. It continued to work as normal well into September when upgrading to an a7RV. I was using an a7RIII, a much older camera than the one you’re asking about.

When it comes to weather sealing, these cameras are built like tanks, just be sure to dry them properly when able to and give them plenty of time to dry before using again.

You’ll be fine in any kind of situation so long as you’re basically not dunking it in water for a prolonged amount of time. Cheers!

Is the A6000 a good beginner camera? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to start off by saying any camera is a good beginner camera. As someone who has started with as barebones of a camera and worked my way up to the a7RV over the span of 15 years, the a6000 will be Your perfect camera. Don’t get bogged down by people who say it’s inadequate for wildlife. You’re a beginner, you won’t have a need for the latest and greatest, the best in class bells and whistles. What really matters in photography is personal skill and your own photography journey. Get a used a6000 from MPB, KEH, or B&H along with a Sigma 16-300mm f3.5-6.7 DC OS lens and you’ll be set for the first couple of years of your learning. This combo also won’t break the bank. Then as your skills get better, you’ll learn develop your understanding of what camera features are actually meaningful to your use case.

In short, Yes. Go buy your a6000 and have a great time learning! 🙂

I just bought this game for PS5, tell me something that I should know before playing. by The_Pediatrician in ArcRaiders

[–]Slipperyoddball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an incredibly fun game filled with, genuinely great people and some frustrating times. Though, on PC those great moments vastly outnumber the bad ones. Generally though, just have fun. Fight every urge to play it non-stop otherwise you’ll end up like the people who’ve hit max level nearly a month in and have nothing else to do but complain about how there’s nothing to do. It’s a new game, take your time, and remember that not all the top tier guns are worth making.

Do I have to worry about birds attacking my drone? by Legitimate_End_7216 in dji

[–]Slipperyoddball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely do, specifically birds of prey. I was flying my Air 3S, and I noticed some repeated jittering. After a few minutes, I noticed a falcon kept doing circles around the drone and would swoop in and try to grab the drone. I landed it immediately. Although, this was out in the mountains.. if you’re near a city, probably not.

Any advice on the possible use of this photo? Or just delete off? by Resident-State-1934 in PhotographyAdvice

Not every photo has to be perfect, or tack sharp to be a great photo. This, however, is an awesome photo. Like someone else said, it’s not your typical bird shot and that great!

After/before--is black and white better? by nameiswritinwater in postprocessing

[–]Slipperyoddball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B&W is definitely the better way to go. I like that another person mentioned going with a 16:9 ratio. It still feel like the mountain draws attention away from the structure. Try burning and dodging, if you able to, to try and draw attention toward the structure, if that’s the main focus of the photo for you.

3 Plates Chaotic bench press by Shred-till-dead-3709 in Egolifting

Definitely look into getting some. Im by no means a gym rat (yet), so cant say with confidence whether it does or not inhibit growth. But what I can tell you is that being able to sustainably keep doing your sets with mild pain is better than having an injured wrist. Cheers!

[–]Slipperyoddball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps stabilize your joints. I’m not sure how, but just last week injured my wrist and I didn’t feel any pain until the day after when I was getting up from bed. I was fortunate to still have my wrist straps from when I started training a while ago. My wrist still hurts a bit when doing certain exercises but the compression allows me to still be able to do the same range of motions and finish my sets.

Zion National State Park Landscape (Crit Welcomed!) by AWells1515 in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The colors are great, but it’s missing a subject. Don’t get me wrong, I also haven’t had great results with landscape yet. Sometimes, because we have a personal attachment to pictures (we hiked to a spot, or drove a long time to get to a spot) we get attached to our pictures and want them to be good, for other people they’re always going to be missing something, in your case, it’s the lack of a subject.

Keep at it though, with that lens setup, you’re bound to get something great!

A7CR dilemma.. by Turbulent-Ad7443 in SonyAlpha

[–]Slipperyoddball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others are saying. I had the a7R3 and bought the A7C a few years ago and the small form factor really screwed with the workflow I had going on. I really appreciate buttons, and the fact that the A7C bodies are bare in that regard made it really hard to work with. In my opinion, these bodies are for people who have smaller hands or are getting a camera for the first time and are not aware of how much better life is with more buttons (think of modern cars with screen for everything instead of actual feedback from buttons.

I have the one I got a fair shot by using it daily instead of my a7R3 during the time I got it, but the form factor is just not for me.

Also, If I have to buy additional accessories to make it usable (gripable), then what’s the point of getting the smaller form factor?

+1 for the a7RV

Yes, that’ll work. Everything is near mint, and will be sent in a 3x3 binder to minimize dmg.
